Sony has published a financial report for the last fiscal year, in which, among other things, the company assured that the launch of PlayStation 5 console is not threatened. We also found out that the game created for the new platform avoided major problems due to the coronavirus pandemic and learned the new sales results of PS4.

The launch of PlayStation 5 will take place as planned.

Sony has published its financial report for the last fiscal year, ended on March 31, 2020. In addition to details of sales of products and services, we can also find some information about the launch of PlayStation 5. Sony confirmed (similar assurances appeared at the end of March) that the coronavirus pandemic had no major impact on the planned date of the device's debut, and posed no major problems for the games created for the new platform.

In a separate report Sony described in more detail the impact of the current situation on the work on PlayStation 5 and related productions:

"Regarding the launch of PlayStation®5, although factors such as employees working from home and restrictions on international travel have presented some challenges in regards to part of the testing process and the qualification of production lines, development is progressing with the launch of the console scheduled for the 2020 holiday season. At this point in time major problems have not arisen in the game software development pipeline for Sony’s own first-party studios or its partners’ studios."

We haven't yet found out exactly how many PlayStation 5 consoles Sony is planning to launch this year, although there are indications that those waiting for the device can rest assured.

Last but not least, we also learned from the financial report that about 110.4 million PS4 consoles have been sold so far. In the last quarter of the last financial year 1.5 million users purchased it. A total of 13.6 million units were sold over the last twelve months, which is a better result than the one projected by Sony (13.5 million). In addition, the number of PS Plus subscribers (41.5m vs. 36.4m last fiscal year) and the number of software sold on PS4 (59.6m copies, 66% of which were games, compared to 54.7m in last fiscal year) were reported. Today, the Japanese company also announced the creation of a new brand, PlayStation Studios, under which its developers will unite.
