The Witcher (Netflix) - Ton of Info on Season 2

There was a flood of new information on the second season of The Witcher from Netflix. It concerns, among others, the characters we will see on the screen and story threads from Sapkowski's work to be adapted this season.

We know more and more about the second season of The Witcher.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. In the second season of The Witcher we will see more rulers, wizards and witchers;
  2. There will be no shortage of well-known and popular characters such as Dijkstra or Nivellen, but there will also be new characters;
  3. There will also be other monsters, like the Leshen;
  4. The production will present Nilfgaard's motivations and threads known from the short story A Grain of Truth.

A new batch of info about the second season of The Witcher series from Netflix appeared on the web (via What's on Netflix) . They mainly concern the threads known from Sapkowski's novels and short stories, which will be adapted in this series, as well as characters to appear on the screen.

Crowned heads, sorcerers and witchers

In the second season of The Witcher we will see King Foltest (Shaun Dooley) again, but this time he will not be the only ruler to appear on the screen. He will be joined by others, among whom there will certainly be Meve - Queen of Lyria and Rivia. An important role will be played by the elven sorceress and queen, Francesca Findabair (played by Mecia Simson), who will be present in seven out of eight episodes (in some of them she will be accompanied by her brother Gage, played by Kaine Zajaz).

This production will also feature a number of other characters associated with spheres of power, magic or espionage, such as Dijkstra (she will appear in three episodes), the sorceress Lydia van Bredevoort (Aisha Fabienne Ross, two episodes) or the servant Vilgefortz magician Rience. Triss Merigold, Stregobor, Fringilla Vigo (together with her uncle Artorius), Tissaia de Vries and Sabrina Glevissig will also return. What is important is that we will also see more witches on screen (they will perform in three or four episodes).

Monsters, threads and stories

Although in the second season of The Witcher we can expect intrigues and plots, there will probably be other threads and some classic monster hunting as well. In this respect, we can expect, among others, the Leshen and a mysterious character called Vanessa-Marie - an old, white-haired woman described as "a demon who travels the world and exploits human desires". Are the scriptwriters preparing for us a female version of Gaunter o'Dim, known from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its Hearts of Stone expansion? The heroine will appear in three or four episodes.

We can expect to see Nilfgaard from a different perspective and explain the motives behind the invaders' actions. The showrunner - Lauren S. Hissrich - also confirmed earlier reports suggesting that the controversial armor of Nilfgaard soldiers will be replaced by a new design.

Everything seems to indicate that the producers will adapt the short story A Grain of Truth - the episode(s) dedicated to it will feature Kristofer Hivju, known from theThe Game of Throne, who will play Nivellen. However, it is not known whether Filippa Eilhart will appear in this season (so far no one has been chosen for this role). It is also uncertain whether we will see the Melitele temple on the screen, although fans speculate that one of the planned characters - Violet - may be a novice living in this place. She will be a young, capricious girl who hides a sadistic disposition. We will see her in two or three episodes (played by Carmel Laniado).

The second season of The Witcher from Netflix, like the first one, will have eight episodes. The show is scheduled to debut in 2021, but it is worth noting that in March work on the series was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. It cannot be ruled out that a prolonged break will delay the premiere.
