Set in fantasy realities, a 4X turn-based strategy by an independent studio Amplitude known for the space strategy game – Endless Space. The action takes us to Auria, a fantasy world which was once hit by a devastating cataclysm that pushed the civilization into the abyss. In the advent of new signs indicating the return of the apocalypse, we are in control of a small village, take care of supplies, technology development, diplomacy, and military operations. Even though mechanics of the turn-based combat system are quite simple, the game puts heavy emphasis on tactics and terrain use. The game features RPG elements, such as numerous quests and development of heroes’ skills in exchange for experience points.

Pathway

A tactical turn-based RPG developed by the creators of Halfway. The story in Pathway is set in the 1930s and revolves around powerful ancient artifacts. The Nazis search for them, trying to beat the private collectors’ associations to it. The player takes control of a group of independent collectors – Lankford & Co – and attempts to find the ancient relics before they fall in someone else’s hands. The group controlled by the player comprises some eccentric characters, who carry out a number of dangerous missions taking place in the ruins of ancient civilizations, tombs filled with traps and monsters, and even Wehrmacht strongholds. Most of these missions offer players much freedom in the exploration of large locations; however, they also require them to fight many battles using the turn-based combat system. In between the missions, the player gets to the base in which he can manage his team, talk to NPCs and make story-related decisions. The creators of Pathway decided to implement the pixel art style enriched by modern visual effects, such as dynamic lighting.

Another mechanic simulator published by PlayWay – a studio known for publishing such games as Car Mechanic Simulator, Train Mechanic Simulator, and Space Mechanic Simulator. The game has been developed by Degenerals and allows the player to assume the role of an owner of the museum exhibiting tanks from the period of World War II. The gameplay is divided into several stages. In the first stage, one has to search for a machine, gather information on it, assemble a team of technicians, and set off to acquire the desired machine. The search area can be covered with an off-road vehicle, and after finding the wreckage, it has to be excavated and transported back to the museum using special equipment. Another stage focuses on renovating the acquired tank - the player has to remove the rust, replace all the damaged components, etc. In order to do this, one has to disassemble the entire vehicle, and after thorough cleaning, repainting, and replacing all the necessary parts, put it back together. Finally, the tank lands on the display at the museum and the player has to place info notes with interesting facts around the new showpiece. After that, one can start another assignment.

A remastered edition of the twelfth installment in a series of popular jRPGs. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age was created on the basis of Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System - an extended edition of the original release. The Zodiac Age is set in a fantasy world known as Ivalice, which is being torn apart by a constant war between two superpowers. Vaan, a teenage orphan who dreams of a career as a sky-pirate must find his place within the events. As a result of a coincidence, the protagonist joins the local resistance and sets out for a journey - what is at stake however, is the fate of the entire world. The game is played from a third-person view and the player explores extensive 3D locations. Combat takes place in real-time, but the game offers an active pause option, allowing the player to give out orders to their characters without having to hurry. The game brings an original character development system based on the so-called licenses that allow the characters to use particular abilities. The remastered edition offers improved visuals, as well as a soundtrack recorded from scratch.

X4: Foundations

A sandbox space simulator developed by Egosoft. It is the fourth full-fledged installment of the popular series X. Similarly to its predecessors, X4: Foundations focuses mostly on giving the players a freedom in how they want to play. At the beginning the player takes control of a cheap space ship with weak specifications. He is being thrown into the middle of an open galaxy. Depending on their choices, they can become a space merchant, a pirate, a soldier, a bounty hunter, an assassin, an explorer or a miner. The gameplay mechanics are more faithful to the first games in the series than to the newest installments. Many simplifications were removed in favor of mechanics known from X3: Terran Conflict, now improved and upgraded with some novelties. The player can pilot many types of ships that can be freely upgraded and modified. The dynamical game world is constantly shaped by player’s actions.

The third installment in the series of adventure games started in 1999 with Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. Dreamfall: Chapters was developed by Red Thread Games led by Ragnar Tornquist. The story of the game presents further adventures of the young protagonist, Zoe Castillo, who thanks to her highly unusual powers is able to travel between three worlds: the magical Arcadia, the technologically advanced Stark and the mysterious Storytime. Since it is a traditional adventure game, the gameplay focuses on such features like item gathering, conversations with non-playable characters and riddle solving. Despite the rather small budget of the game, developers of Dreamfall: Chapters have created attractive visuals generated by using the popular Unity Engine.

This decision influences the game's plot, ending, and gameplay mechanics. We will use fourteen types of weapons during our adventures and eighteen combat abilities (nine for each side). If we side with RDA, we will use various vehicles to move around Pandora. If we chose Na'vi, we will do the same on the backs of various animals. No matter the platform we play on, Avatar: The Game features high-quality visuals.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

A second entry in the adventure horror game series Amnesia. It has been created by the dev team at The Chinese Room and supervised by Frictional Games studio (creators of the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent). The Story of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs focuses on the eponymous device; set in 1899, it puts players in the role of Oswald Mandus, a businessman who fell in a coma for a few months and lost his memories due to mysterious illness. When he wakes up, he discovers that the rest of occupants had disappeared, and a strange machine noise can be heard from below. We experience the game from an FPP view, which creates a feeling of true fear in conjunction with engrossing story and climatic audiovisuals.

Sid Meier's Civilization V

An extensive turn-based strategy game that came out as the fifth installment in the Civilization series, a popular franchise created by Sid Meier. Sid Meier's Civilization V was developed by Firaxis Games Studios supported by the publishing company Take Two Interactive. In accordance with the tradition of the series, player becomes the leader of a selected nation and leads it throughout a period of several thousand years. Gameplay mechanics underwent no major changes, and the new solutions (such as implementation of neutral city-states, hexagonal map grid, and the limit of one unit per field) are mostly results of evolution of previously employed ideas. Some visible changes were made to the visuals, which are now powered by a brand new graphic engine.

The competition, being one season of the program, takes place on Bagne de Cayenne, a grand island. The only task of the player is to survive. Knowledge and skills prove particularly helpful in that. A continuation of the 2014 tactical strategy game developed by Killhouse Games, which recreates the routines of SWAT anti-terrorist units. The action of Door Kickers 2: Task Force North takes the players to the Middle East, where the player-controlled squad, comprising representatives of many special forces, follows the trace of a dangerous terrorist organization. One observes the action from a top-down perspective and experiences all the events in real time with the option to utilize the active pause system. Like the first installment, the game has been divided into two parts - equally important to carrying out a mission is proper preparation, which includes selecting units with adequate skills and dispatching them properly across the map. The creators introduced many improvements and novelties that make the whole experience even more realistic. Among these, one can find new pieces of gear, the option to operate under the cover of night, jumping through windows, and the new mechanics allowing one to group his units.

Cars possess an array of special powers, which can be modified as you progress with over a hundred different gadgets. Matches are played on special cage-shaped arenas with power-ups scattered across them. The game lets you play through a full league season against AI, the pinnacle however, is the multiplayer, both online and local. As compared with the previous game, this one has noticeably better graphics and improved physics engine.

The game once more takes you into the age-old war for the galaxy and lets you choose one of two sides of the conflict. In the course of the game you get to visit dozens of famous locations known from George Lucas’ film saga and use all kinds of iconic weapons and vehicles. Apart from the expansive story mode the game offers a variety of multiplayer modes, in which you can cooperate and compete with players from all around the world. The visuals are powered by the advanced version of the Frostbite Engine, known from games like Need for Speed: Rivals and the Battlefield franchise.
