The seventh installment in one of the most popular first-person RPGs by New World Computing. Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor takes us to the world of Erathia, which slowly regains its balance. It quickly turns out that multiple different races cannot coexist peacefully, and the increasing tensions between humans and elves will soon become intolerable. The Necromancer guild tries to use the situation in Erathia to their wicked ends, and only the player-controlled party can thwart their plan. Apart from the main storyline, the game features 18 side quests, nearly 30 kinds of monsters, and over 500 non-player characters. The seventh installment of the saga, created on the basis of its predecessor, offers a similar visual quality level as well as comparable gameplay mechanics and character development system. The number of available classes was increased, though, and the plot became multi-threaded, thus forcing the player to make choices that have an impact on the further course of the story.

The fifth full-fledged installment in the bestselling Tomb Raider series. Again, the player assumes the role of a comely British traveler and treasure hunter by the name of Lara Croft. Contrary to the previous installments, the plot here is based on retrospections and divided into four separate episodes. Thus the protagonist travels to Rome in search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, tries to prevent Russian mobsters from obtaining the mythical Spear of Destiny and goes back to the times of her youth, visiting a demonic island in Ireland. In the last episode, Lara tries to take an artifact called Iris (Tomb Raider 4) from Werner von Croy, breaking into the antagonist's modern-design skyscraper. The game expands the mechanics of the previous installments and features several new ones, including mainly line walking and an ability to swing from sticks. Additionally, the game features a functional level editor.

The third installment of a bestselling series by id Software, and one of the most important titles when it comes to multiplayer FPP shooters. The greatest novelty introduced by Quake III: Arena is the fact that after two previous installments of the series, intended to be played both in multi-, and single player modes, the developers decided to focus exclusively on the multiplayer aspect of the game. Thus, the basic form of gameplay here are skirmishes between two teams, governed by a set of clearly-defined rules. Although Quake III: Arena contains a single player mode, it is based only on skirmishes with AI-controlled bots, and can be treated as training before the actual multiplayer gameplay.

A two-dimensional platform game, the gameplay of which references classic installments of the series. The story of the game takes place before the events told in the first installment of the series. The action of the game takes place in a fairytale realm called the Crossroads of Dream. When the world is threatened by an invasion of dark creatures called Hoodlums, the titular protagonist and his friends decide to save it. During the game the player will visit various fantasy realms, jump between numerous platforms (the action is shown from side perspective and the player can move in four directions), get past various traps, obtain new abilities and fight enemies encountered on the path. There is more than a dozen types of enemies, as well as much more powerful bosses. What's more, the game contains levels in which the protagonist mounts other creatures (for example a giant mosquito) and rides it through large areas. Cooperation mode is a novelty in the series – it allows the player to complete all levels while accompanied by up to three friends. The colorful, beautiful graphics generated by UbiArt Framework are a valuable asset to the game. Colorful locations are accompanied by neatly-animated characters and a catchy soundtrack.

A science-fiction action game played from the first-person view and created by Raven Software - an experienced developer popular mainly for series such as Hexen, Heretic, Soldier of Fortune, or the latest installments in both the Quake and the Wolfenstein series. The player assumes the role of an American soldier sent on a mission to investigate a mysterious, post-Soviet island. It turns out that the place is constantly traveling in time as a result of mysterious forces affecting it. The unsuccessful Soviet experiment that is at the bottom of this situation was supposed to change the course of the Cold War. The game is based on the classic formula enriched with original time-traveling elements. The players have the Time Manipulation Device at their disposal and thus they can make objects and enemies either younger or older at will. This allows the player to recapture a moment when a bridge was in one piece for example. More than once, the player has to travel back in time in order to affect the present timeline and make a progress in the story by doing so.

The game lets you control a crazy goat named Pilgor which destroys everything in the virtual world. An original horror game created by Scott Cawthon, an independent gamemaker. The player assumes the role of a watchman who takes up a seasonal job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. What is important about the restaurant, is that mechanical mascots are its main attraction. A seemingly easy job turns into a true nightmare during the very first night, when the protagonist discovers that the sympathetic animatronics come to life after dark and display a hostile attitude towards humans. Trapped in a cramped watch room, the protagonist has to avoid contact with murderous robots during five subsequent nights. The task is not easy, because using various devices, such as lighting and monitoring systems, as well as locking the door drains the power supply, which has to be appropriately managed throughout the entire night. Despite its simplistic mechanics, Five Nights at Freddy's provides a good dose of anxiety and is capable of frightening the player with ease.

A hybrid of a platform and a survival game. The title was developed by two people – Joar Lisberg Jakobsson was the lead programmer and the author of the idea of the game while the music was composed by James Primate. The game takes place in a hostile post-industrial realm filled with complicated machinery. The environment is constantly plagued by downpours and the animals that live in it are forced to hide from the rain in a hibernated state. The main protagonist is Slugcat – a creature that is similar to a cat. It is tasked with gathering enough food to survive the forced resting time. What’s interesting, the ecosystem is filled both with creatures smaller than Slugcat and ones that are much larger. This makes the protagonist the hunter and the prey at the same time. The gameplay concentrates on visiting atmospheric locations, avoiding confrontation with larger predators and avoiding traps and other dangers. Luckily, the unusual protagonist isn’t completely defenseless – he can use a spear that allows him to kill or stun other creatures. Rain World can be played alone or in cooperation mode. Low-key colors and simple graphics fit the grim atmosphere of the game.

The plot is filled with supernatural elements, and science-fiction motifs. The plot of Virginia is completely linear, so the players can focus on experiencing the story. The action is seen from a first-person perspective, while the gameplay mechanics and the way of presenting subsequent events take full advantage of movie narration techniques – there are plenty of varied shots, visible camera work and a movie-like montage. What’s even more interesting, and practically unprecedented in other narrative-heavy games, all information is relayed through picture and sound – there are no dialogues. All conversations end when our character is nearby. The eerie atmosphere is also achieved through an original visual style, in which the simplified face models allow for suggestive relay of emotions, while the red-yellowish, autumn palette brings out the sleepy atmosphere of the area. Story wise and stylistically, the game was visibly inspired by Twin Peaks, a cult-classic TV series.

Another installment of the popular FPP shooter series created in 2004 by the Polish studio People Can Fly. The game was developed by the team at The Farm 51, founded by people involved in the creation of the original. The players assume the role of Daniel Garner who died in a car crash along with his wife. The protagonist is tasked with dealing with infernal hordes, which will allow him to redeem himself and join his beloved in the afterlife. At the core of Painkiller Hell & Damnation lies combat against swarms of enemies, although we also have to face a powerful boss every now and then. On the battlefield, we make use of a rich arsenal – the so-called Soulcatcher, which is a tool that lets us gather souls of fallen enemies and shot laser beams, makes a successful debut. Apart from the single-player campaign, the developers created an extensive multiplayer mode that includes such modules as Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Survival. We can also finish Garner’s adventure in cooperation with another player. The title is powered by Unreal Engine 3, which allowed the developers to achieve satisfying quality of graphics.
