Micro Machines (2016)
Racing
July 12, 2016
A mobile reboot of the cult-classic series of racing games, created by Codemasters Software. In comparison to the original, which was popular in the 90s, the backbone of the gameplay hasn’t changed much. The action is once again presented from a top-down view, with the competition between small, remote-controlled vehicles being the mainstay of the game. The races take place on specially prepared tracks, located in such places as desks, kitchen sinks, or a billiards table. The player has to watch out not only for the enemies, but also for various obstacles like cutlery lying around the track, or even spilled glue. The key to success lies in using power-ups and tuning the vehicles – the number of the latter has increased to over sixty, including very fast, exotic cars, hot rods and muscle cars that are popular among tuners, or even atypical choices for a racing game in form of police cars and hovercrafts. The power-ups available in Micro Machines not only increase the vehicles’ performance, but also their battle potential – during the gameplay, we can use shields, flamethrowers, as well as hard-hitting blasters. Aside from gameplay modes present in the previous installments, a new mode has been introduced – Arena – that forces us to eliminate other competitors. Our results can be stored on an online scoreboard.
