Another installment in the popular Nintendo series about Pokémon, released as a pair of games: Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The action takes place in French-like region Kalos. You assume the role of a young Pokémon trainer traveling through the world in search of new creatures you catch and train for Pokémon League battles. To be successful you need to earn eight Gym Badges by defeating the Battle Arenas’ leaders specialized in different elements. Then, you will have to prove your strength to the so-called Elite Four – the best trainers in Kalos. Game mechanics do not differ significantly from the previous installments. The core aspects of Pokemon X are still world exploration, chatting, and battling others with Pokémon of different abilities and techniques. Pokémon X and Y are the first in the series to utilize fully 3D graphics.

A mobile RPG that supports augmented reality technology, created by Niantic studio in conjunction with The Pokemon Company. The application uses smartphones’ and tablets’ cameras to register the surrounding reality, then include additional, three-dimensional objects on it. We searching for Pokemon by following the instructions from our GPS. Other elements of gameplay aren’t much different from what we’ve seen in other entries in the series. The game focuses on finding and catching pocket monsters, then training them and dueling against players from the entire world. Pokemon GO application works in conjunction with a dedicated gadget, sold separately, a wristband that gives us access to some additional options if we happen to be without our smartphone. The band will vibrate and glow whenever there is a Pokemon nearby.

Pokken Tournament DX offers over 20 pokemon from both the old and new installments of the main RPG series. Each of them has its own unique fight style and combo attacks. The game introduces one new pokemon that was not available in its 2016 version, Decidueye. In addition to that, the developers introduced two new game modes, Team Battle and Group Match Mode. The game also introduces a Battle replay system – we can record our matches and post them online. Pokken Tournament DX makes a good use of Switch’s unique functions and allows us to play in both handheld and stationary modes.

New edition of a classic entry in the Pokemon series and part of the so-called second generation along with Pokemon Silver. The original game debuted in 1999 in Japan for the Game Boy Color handheld, and then has been released on Nintendo 3DS console family more than fifteen years later. The story of Pokemon Gold takes place in a fictional world inhabited by the eponymous creatures, as players once again venture as a beginner pokemon trainer to catch all of their species and beat the best trainers around. Pokemon Gold introduces many novelties compared to the first generation, starting with new region (inhabited by previously unseen species of pokemon), night/day cycle, additional items, and ending with the breeding mechanics. The core gameplay remained unchanged, so we explore the world from top-down view, interacting with NPCs, catching pokemon and engaging in turn-based battles against trainers we meet. All of this is presented in 16-bit colored visuals, complemented with music by Jun'ichi Masuda. Additionally, the game supports local wireless and PokeBank application, the latter letting us transfer our pokemon to newer games from the series.

A mobile RPG that resembles the famous Pokemon series. The players assume the role of a young boy who intends to become a master monster trainer. In the game, we traverse locations in search of new beasts. The fun boils down to catching encountered creatures and training them to make a team that will then be sent to fight other trainers' creatures. In total, there are over 900 monsters to catch, all divided into several categories (fire, water, shadow, etc.). Strengths and weaknesses of every one of them are based on rock, paper, scissors rules — each creature is especially effective against one kind of enemy and weak against another. Therefore, our team has to be composed in a way that makes it ready for all possibilities. Battles are fought agains AI-controlled opponents as well as other players. Graphics-wise, Neo Monsters resembles other Japanese two-dimensional RPGs. The production features manga style visuals, while the story is told with static dialogue scenes. Neo Monsters is available for a small amount of money but features micropayments.

A mobile battle strategy developed by HEROZ. The main hero is an aspiring Pokémon trainer who takes part in a tournament on Carmonte Island. The winner will receive the deed to a luxury hotel – the Jewel Tower. As the hero desires to become a hotel industry magnate, the prize is a real treat for him. The mechanics of Pokémon Duel are based on the simplified rules of a collectible miniatures game Pokémon Trading Figure Game, so gameplay comes down to fighting turn-based battles of Pokémon figures. The arenas have a net showing predefined paths between teams of up to six Pokémon. In order to succeed, you need to lead at least one creature to the starting position of the opponent. You can choose from the entire set of sixth generation Pokémon – even though you begin with just a few basic beasts, with progress you get access to more powerful ones. This is a free-to-play production with microtransactions, featuring both single- and multiplayer modes.

Pokemon Shuffle is a free-to-play match-3 game with optional microtransactions. We play as a pokemon trainer who duels wild pocket monsters. if we win, the pokemon we have defeated is added to our collection. Gameplay focuses on aligning three or more elements of the same kind into horizontal and vertical lines. We move small squares with pokemon icons around a small board. In order to attack, we have to align at least three pokemon icons of the same type (i.e. three Pikachus will create an electric attack). The more we use one pokemon, the stronger it gets. However, we have to remember we only have a limited number of moves to use in battle. If we use them all before winning, we automatically loose. Our enemies also have strengths and weaknesses, so it is advisable to plan ahead before battle.
