Gamescom might be the first place the public has access to a Hollow Knight: Silksong demo. It will be playable at the Xbox booth on PC and the ROG Xbox Ally.
Today, Microsoft and Xbox revealed what games will be available to demo at this year’s Gamescom, and they included Hollow Knight: Silksong among the list. Hype for this game seems to be reaching a fever pitch as the release date feels closer than ever. In May, a demo was revealed to be playable at an Australian museum this September. During the Xbox Summer Showcase, Silksong was shown alongside the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally, Microsoft’s new handheld gaming device planned for this year. Not to mention the brief appearance in Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct in April. Gamescom begins on August 20th with Opening Night Live. Could that be when we finally get a release date?
Hollow Knight: Silksong appears to be imminent. The museum demo may be available first ahead of the public release, but I have a hard time imagining Team Cherry putting that much pressure on one museum. Currently, on Steam’s list of most wishlisted games, Silksong is the number one title. Over the many years this game has been in development, and since its initial reveal six years ago in 2019, the community has collectively been on a roller coaster of emotions.
When I saw this social post today, my first thought was to check the subreddit r/Silksong, to see how people were reacting. Over the last year or so, the subreddit that has the most hype for Hollow Knight: Silksong has turned into a place for daily jokes, fake outs, and other shenanigans. This has reached a point where a “Silkpost” is essentially a Reddit post claiming to have news about Silksong, but actually contains no new information. A Silksong version of an internet term for low-effort posts and jokes.
Of course, the subreddit did not disappoint. Many of the top comments played into the expectations of the subreddit: “Oh, nice silkpo- wait what.” Other comments feign shock, as if the posting of something real has shattered their world, while a few more, perhaps sarcastically, still don’t believe the news, writing: “Where is the silkpost tag,” that would typically indicate the humorous nature of the post.
The Xbox booth at Gamescom will feature twenty playable demos, including both first-party and third-party titles. Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available to demo on PC and the new handheld. Other playable demos include Borderlands 4, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Cronos: The New Dawn, and many more. Xbox shared all the details in a blog post.
Silksong fans should make sure to tune into Gamescom this August, especially if you are unable to attend in person in Cologne, Germany. Unlike Summer Game Fest, Gamescom is open to the public, so impressions of this new Hollow Knight: Silksong demo should be readily available shortly after the event begins. Plus, you never know what kind of announcement there will be. Opening Night Live airs on the 20th, and Xbox will host two broadcasts on the 20th and 21st.
