A third-person survival horror from the Polish studio Bloober Team. In Cronos: The New Dawn we play as a female Traveler exploring a world of the future destroyed by a mysterious event called The Change. We need to fight bloodthirsty monsters and search for rifts to go back in time to the 1980s.
Cronos: The New Dawn is a survival horror game that transports us to a universe that combines retro-futurism and brutalism. The game was developed by Bloober Team - a Polish studio specializing in scaring players, with projects such as The Medium, Layers of Fear series, or Silent Hill 2 Remake in their portfolio.
In Cronos: The New Dawn, we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The adventure leads us through various locations, which we can view in two versions - from the past, admiring the brutalist architecture in all its glory, and also from the future, where we have to face the aberrations inhabiting the Earth (so-called Orphaned).
The main character (Traveler) confronts bloodthirsty creatures that are remnants of humanity, using firearms or engaging in close combat. Their presence and the fact that they usually outnumber us, make us constantly vigilant during the game, and on the battlefield we need to show reflexes, tactical sense and the ability to make quick decisions. An interesting mechanic is that bodies of the killed monsters must be burned before their brethren absorb them, evolving into more dangerous forms (faster, stronger and more resilient).
Cronos: The New Dawn presents us with a grim vision of a world devastated by an apocalyptic event known as The Change, which turned it into a barren desert. During the game, we play as a Traveler working for a mysterious Collective. The hero traverses the wastelands of the future in search of space-time rifts leading to Poland from the 1980s - more specifically to a place called New Dawn (inspired by Nowa Huta in Krakow city).
In the future the protagonist's primary goal is survival, but in the past she must find the key people who perished during the Change, obtain their essence using a tool known as the Reaper, and do everything in her power to ensure they accompany her to the future.
Cronos: The New Dawn runs based on Unreal Engine 5 technology.
The soundtrack for the game Cronos: The New Dawn was composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski.

Life is Xbox: 90 / 100 by Robby Bisschop
Survival horror at its purest: oppressive, unrelenting, and unforgettable. Bloober Team has carved out a new nightmare that merges breathtaking atmosphere with punishing challenge. It’s not here to coddle you; it will test your will, and if you endure the challenge, the reward is one of the most impactful games of the year.
Nintendo Life: 7 / 10 by Oliver Reynolds
Although Cronos: The New Dawn doesn't quite reach the heights of Bloober Team's excellent Silent Hill 2 remake, it's nevertheless the result of a studio that has levelled up significantly from the days of Layers of Fear and Blair Witch. It's a celebration of survival horror, paying homage to all the genre greats effectively, although failing to do anything truly original. That said, the setting and story really help elevate the experience. This is a solid Switch 2 version (assuming a rather unpleasant bug gets fixed soon), and there's real potential here for Cronos to become a central pillar of the genre going forward, should Bloober choose to expand upon it in the future.
PlayStation Universe: 8 / 10 by Adam Byrne
Cronos: The New Dawn is a confident, if somewhat slightly derivative effort which is the measure of a developer not looking to rest on its laurels or coast on recent successes. Kept in line by solid fundamentals and a story that hits the right notes, this is an easy recommendation for fans of similar games where the hospitality of the locals isn't as warm or as welcoming as you had once hoped.
