No Man's Sky Celebrates 5th Birthday, Adds Pets

Hello Games celebrates the 5th anniversary of No Man's Sky with a new update. Companions expansion enables us to tame pets that will accompany us on our space adventures.

Although it won't be five years since the release of No Man's Sky until August, Hello Games has already started celebrating the anniversary. One of the first attractions is the Companions update, which, as the name suggests, enables the players to obtain animal companions. The update's launch is accompanied by a new trailer released by the developers.

Companions enables us to tame many more or less bizarre representatives of fauna from the No Man's Sky universe. The players can take in up to six pets, and each of them has a unique character, only partially resulting from its species and environment. This translates into interactions with both the human guardian and the pets of other players. Their attitude can be learned thanks to the added translator, transmitting the thoughts of pets in the form of simple messages.

Pets are not just a decorative element. Animal companions can search for resources and potential dangers, as well as provide a source of light and - if equipped with their own mining lasers - extract valuable minerals. Companions also makes it possible to ride on some of the larger fauna. What's more, well-groomed creatures can lay eggs, from which offspring will hatch (slightly different from their parents), but we can also use this to trade with other players. In addition, on a device appeared on the space anomaly that enables us to modify the genes of unhatched pets, but - as the devs warn - it's better to use this option in moderation.

From now on not only other players can accompany us on a space expedition.

In addition, the update introduces a number of fixes and minor changes to the interface (more specifically: the choice of dialogue options). Loading times on PlayStation 4 have also been improved. The full list of changes introduced to No Man's Sky: Companions can be found here.
