Sony Makes 3 Movies and 7 Shows Based on PlayStation Games

Tony Vinciquerra from Sony Pictures has commented on Sony's cinematic plans. The company is already working on three films and seven TV series based on games from the PlayStation catalogue.

After May 2019, it was easy to forget about Sony opening a new film studio under a telling name PlayStation Productions. This can be put down to the "thrilling" year 2020, but it is actually due to a lack of new information. Only now has Sony decided to reveal something more about the new initiative. Tony Vinciquerra (CEO of Sony Pictures) told CNBC (via MediaPost) that the company is working on three films and seven TV series based on PlayStation IPs.

Although it is difficult to deduce anything solid from such brief message, we may have heard about two of these ten projects before. The first of these could be Uncharted, which after a long and turbulent development is due to release on July 16, 2021. The second IP used by Sony is Serial Cleaner, whose script, according to recent reports, is to take the form of an animated series. However, it is not certain whether Vinciquerra has referred to these particular productions. The shooting for Uncharted was completed some time ago, and talking about Serial Cleaner in the context of "PlayStation content" can be considered far-fetched Of course, one could mention other Sony brands like God of War, The Last of Us or Bloodborne, but at the moment it would be groundless speculation.

Sony does not complain about the lack of IP with cinematic potential.

It should be noted that the mention of PlayStation-related film projects has been mentioned somewhat in passing. Tony Vinciquerra mentioned this in the context of the plans to integrate Sony's entertainment segment entities within the framework of what he calls 'One Sony'. No specific plan has been developed yet, but we can assume that the company wants to put more emphasis on the cooperation of individual branches (cinematic, PlayStation etc.).
