Rise of the Ronin: How to defeat Asaemon Yamada boss?

Another boss you'll have a chance of defeating in Rise of the Ronin is Asaemon Yamada encountered in Prison Break: Shosaku Narasaki story mission. On this page of our guide, we provide effective tactics for defeating this elite enemy encountered in the Kondemacho prison area in the Edo region from Act 2 of the campaign.

Reaching the battle location

1. One of the story missions in Act 2 of the campaign is Escape from Prison: Shosaku Narasaki. During this task, you'll infiltrate Kondemacho prison and attempt to reach one of the prisoner cells.
2. In the final moments of the mission, you'll reach a Banner in the main building of the prison (screenshot above). Save your progress and replenish supplies here, as after reaching the cell which is the objective, a boss - Asaemon Yamada - will appear.

How to kill Asaemon?

1. Asaemon mainly relies on slow melee swings and he can perform up to 4 such attacks in a row. Either perfect parry or dodge the attacks, as if struck, you'll receive serious damage and be vulnerable to further attacks from the current combination.

1. The boss's most common red attack is hurling items that he impaled on his weapon. You'll know of this attack well in advance, so prepare accordingly - either parry the incoming object or dodge to the sides at the right moment.
2. Another widely used red attacks is a lunge followed by ground slam. This attack is much faster than the remainder of Asaemon's moveset, so initial attempts to mitigate it may be difficult.
3. Defeating Asaemon may be easier if you employ critical hits or Ki Blaze (if you have both ready/activated).
