How long is Rise of the Ronin? On this page of our guide we will try to answer this question comprehensively. We have an estimate of how long a 100% playthrough takes - 100% means finishing all story and side missions, experiencing all endings, full clear of all 3 regions of the world, completing all activities, obtaining the platinum trophy, and reaching all secrets and collectibles.

Main story, 2 endings and NG+

1 - Rise of the Ronin: Game length - Appendix - Rise of the Ronin Guide
  1. The story campaign encompasses several dozen missions, and most of them end with a boss battle against 1 or 2 tough enemies. The average time needed to complete the main story alone is about 30 hours. Attempts to quickly reach the end of the story may be problematic, as the last mission of the game has a recommended experience level of 50.
  2. The amount of time needed to complete the game is further affected by difficulty levels. Even on the default normal difficulty level, some bosses may require several attempts to finally defeat them. The lowest difficulty setting will allow you to easily win battles with story bosses already on the first try.
  3. There are important decisions in the game and the hero can choose a faction from 2 available, but these choices do not affect the course of the campaign greatly. The only big difference appears at the very end of the game, and you don't have to repeat the entire campaign to watch the second ending out of two possible. To see it, you can reload a save from before the finale or use Testament of the Soul. The game does not have a New Game Plus mode, but it offers additional endgame content that completing may take additional hours.

Activities, collectibles, and trophies

2 - Rise of the Ronin: Game length - Appendix - Rise of the Ronin Guide
  1. The world map of Rise of the Ronin encompasses 3 main regions - Yokohama, Edo, and Kyoto. Each of them is an open location that can be explored in breaks between missions. The regions are divided into smaller zones that have their own lists of secrets and activities you need to complete to attain full completion of them. This is a good motivation to strive for 100% completion.
  2. There is a large number of side missions in the game connected/involving chosen companions or NPCs. Completing them all may prolong the experience by about 10 to 15 hours, as these also have their bosses to defeat.
  3. When it comes to collectibles, we have searching for cats and making photographs. Obtaining 100% of the secrets is another endeavor that takes several hours, especially since many of them are initially hidden.
  4. Most of the trophies are unlocked during a standard playthrough (completing story and side missions and searching for secrets in new regions). Only some of the achievements require more effort e.g. you may need to complete a given mission on the highest difficulty level. To complete the achievement list you'll need to spend a few additional hours.
  5. In conclusion, when attempting to complete Rise of the Ronin 100% and obtain the platinum trophy, you should be prepared for the fact that the task will take you even up to 60-70 hours.
