The hang glider allows you to glide in the game Rise of the Ronin. In our tutorial we explain how to get a hang glider and how to fly it properly, how to unlock hang glider upgrades and what the Air Training activities are.

In Rise of the Ronin, exploration doesn't have to be confined to ground level - you can unlock a glider that allows the hero to engage in extended flight. On this page of our guide, we show how to obtain the glider and how to start flying. Additionally, we mention the topic of buying glider upgrades and explain the purpose of Gliding Training minigames connected to this gadget.
Unlocking the Glider
- The Glider is one of the most useful gadgets in the hero's repertoire. Using it, you can glide, which adds another dimension to exploration and allows you to access hard-to-reach places or make a climb attempt much faster.
- Obtaining the Glider is a story event - at some point of the game, you'll get it automatically. During Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises story quest, you'll be tasked with defeating a boss - Gonzo - and getting his key.
- With the key, you can access a building hiding a chest that contains an important quest item - Checkpoint Permit. This is also where you unlock the Glider (screenshot above).
- You can try it out right away - after getting in the air, press X to unfold the glider's wings to slowly glide towards the next objective which will be the city.
- At that moment, a sheet featuring all basic buttons used in gliding will appear. Remember that gliding exhaust blue Ki bar. It if is depleted, the glider will instantly fold, with the hero plunging down to his doom by falling from great height if you haven't adjusted your flight to avoid this.
Uses of Glider
- Above all, Glider is used to make climbing and reaching remote areas much faster. For example, after it is unfolded, you can safely glide towards the ground or a roof of a distant building. Additionally, during the flight, you can grab hooks that will propel you further in the air, prolonging time spent in the air.
- You can mount airborne surprise attacks - fly towards a targeted opponent and after a red icon appears, press Triangle to perform an Assassination (the hero will land on the enemy and eliminate him).
How to upgrade Glider?
- The Glider can be upgraded thanks to Technology Development mechanic. This feature will become available after in the main story you unlock the Camera and visit the first Photographic Studio in Yokohama.
- To activate upgrades, you need Foreign Books which are found, among others, as loot or as rewards from completed quests. In the Technology Development screen, there is an entire section dedicated to Glider upgrades. Thanks to unlocked upgrades, you can lower the Ki consumption of flight or make gliding faster.
Gliding training mini-games
- After you advance enough in the main story, there will be Gliding Training markers appearing on the world map. These are optional activities involving the glider.
- Your task in these is hitting targets mid-flight. Try to hit as many of them before Ki is exhausted or the time limit elapses.
- Completing Gliding Training activities is rewarded with various prizes - these may be e.g. silver coins, Foreign Books, or rare equipment.
For the purpose of getting the highest scores in Gliding Training, we recommend upgrading the Glider first, as the basic Ki supply may not be enough to get the top grades.
