How to transfer items to companions in Starfield?

In Starfield, you will find a huge amount of various types of equipment, from weapons, through armors, helmets, items that heal and enhance statistics, to those which are simply worth selling. You can transfer these items to your companions.

To do that, interact with them and select the "Let's trade gear" option. Then the screen showing the inventory of a given character will appear. You can take their items or handle over yours for storage.

To do this, press Q on the keyboard or LB on the controller. You will see categories, such as weapons, spacesuits, etc. Choose the item and press accept, and it will be moved to the companion's inventory. If you hand over a weapon or other item that can be used, open the companion's inventory, select the item, and press B on the keyboard or Y on the controller to make your companion equip it.

Why you should transfer items to companions?

You should transfer items so that they can be used by your companions, but also because weapons, spacesuits, helmets, and many others can have a significant weight - your character has a specified maximum load capacity. Companions can therefore help in transporting loot you can sell later.
