Expedition 33: How to beat the Chromatic Reaper Cultist boss?

Where is Chromatic Cultist Reaper?

Chromatic Reaper Cultist is on the continent. You will find him on the island, far to the east of the main continent and from the Monoco's Station. To get there, you have to swim through the coral reefs. You will get the ability to destroy reefs only after completing the Old Lumiere. The boss is optional and fighting it is not required to make progress in the game.

Chromatic Cultist Reaper's attacks

1. Melee combo - the cultist approaches you and deals seven blows with a scythe. These consist of a spinning blow and then, a heavily delayed strike from above. After that, the boss will deal four rotating strikes, one after another. The last blow is, again, a delayed one from above. Learn to parry at least the rotating strikes, which occur very quickly and rhythmically. Each hit imposes Blight on you, which reduces your maximum health by 10%.
2. Projectiles - the cultist swings a scythe, shooting three projectiles that fly in an arc. Parry or dodge just before the bullets hit you - you can parry when they change their flight direction.

How to defeat Chromatic Cultist Reaper?

The boss is susceptible to Dark. The cultist flies, therefore any normal attacks and skills that you may use have a drastically reduced chance of hitting the boss. You will have to rely on ranged weapons and counterattacks; equip Pictos that enhance both of these offensive capabilities. You will spend most of the turns shooting at the cultist - you can end turns by using items to heal or restore action points.

Also, equip team members with strengthening, healing, and weakening skills; the boss may avoid attacks, but cannot avoid debuffs. This could be, for example, Verso's Powerful, which he can use to increase the damage dealt by the team, or Monoco's Pelerin Heal, which he can use to apply regeneration and heal allies. Verso is a useful member of the team during this fight thanks to his Perfection mechanic - the higher rank he achieves, the stronger his shots become.

Rewards for defeating Chromatic Cultist Reaper

For defeating Chromatic Cultist Reaper, you will receive:

1. 63,900 XP;
2. 4,755 Chroma;
3. Blodam - weapon for Verso;
4. Resplendent Chroma Catalyst x2;
5. Colour of Lumina x5.
