Is there a map in Expedition 33?
Yes, there is a world map in Expedition 33. However, it is quite limited by its simplified nature and how undiscovered areas are shown on it.
When you first step onto the open continent (overworld view), you will have the opportunity to open the general map of the continent. You will do this using the button indicated in the lower left corner of the screen.
This will pull up the continent map, with the areas you have already visited marked. It'll help you get your bearings and plan your further journey. However, it lacks detail, and elements such as enemies, blockades or terrain irregularities are not included in it.
Additionally, all areas where you have not been yet are covered by the fog of war. To reveal them, you will have to visit them for the first time on your own.
Upon entering one of the smaller locations, you lose access to the map and are left entirely on your own. Fortunately, most biomes in the game are quite linear and it's hard to get lost in them. However, if you care about thoroughly exploring an area, you will have to really strain your eyes in search of hidden corridors and passages.
How to make exploration easier?
It is important to carefully listen to the dialogues between characters. The characters in the story will often give you hints about the way to the next mission objectives. The compass visible on the left side of the screen will also help you while crossing the continent.
If at any stage you forget where you're supposed to go, approach the campfire in the camp and select the option to remind you of the mission objective. You will also find a similar hint on the map screen, in the upper left corner of the screen.
