While crossing the ruined continent in Expedition 33, you will certainly come across various types of weapons. You can upgrade your favorite equipment to improve its stats and unlock its properties. What are the benefits of upgrading weapons?

Each weapon in Expedition 33 is described by several factors:

1. Attack Power - directly affects the damage dealt;
2. Element - basic type of damage dealt by a weapon;
3. Scaling - specifies one or two attributes of a character that add to the weapon's effectiveness. The higher the attribute value, the greater the damage that the particular character will deal with a weapon scaled with this attribute.
4. Scaling power - how strongly the damage scales with a specific attribute. Ranges from level D to S.

Increasing the weapon's level increases its Attack and Scaling Powers, which directly increases the weapon's effectivenes in combat. Regular weapon upgrades are an integral part of team development. It is particularly important if you base the build of a certain character on a specific synergy between a weapon and the character's statistics.

Some weapons also have special passive effects. They are active only when the character is equipped with a certain weapon. However, most of them are locked until the item is upgraded to the indicated level. This allows to unlock the potential of a given weapon along with subsequent levels.

How to upgrade a weapon?

You'll be able to upgrade weapons after finding Maelle and unlocking the Curator. A mysterious faceless figure will appear in your camp where you will be able to visit him while resting. The Curator resides in a small cave near the campfire.

Talk to the Curator, and then choose the option to upgrade a weapon. In the upgrade window, select the tab with a specific character, and then the weapon that you wish to upgrade. Here you can view the current weapon statistics as well as how they will change after an upgrade. When you decide to reach the next level, press the button displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Of course, weapon upgrades are not free. In order to upgrade your equipment, you'll need so-called Chroma Catalysts. The basic version of this item allows you to upgrade a weapon up to level 3. For further upgrades, it will be necessary to obtain stronger versions of this item, e.g. Polished Chroma Catalysts (upgrades up to level 9).

You can obtain Chroma Catalysts of various quality during detailed exploration of the game world or as loot from enemies. Some merchants also sell catalysts, which can be purchased in exchange for chrome.
