Real Football 2017 is another installment of the sports game series developed by the French studio Gameloft. Gameplay mechanics are very much similar to those we will find in FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer series. We lead a football team and play more and more matches. We will be responsible for football transfers, developing the skills of our players, and healing their injuries. Matches are accompanied by a commentary similar to that from TV sports broadcasts.

A futuristic sports game. The title is an unusual hybrid of hockey and tennis. It was developed by independent studio High Horse Entertainment. The players participate in matches that take place on a rectangle field that is divided into two halves with a net. By throwing the titular disc above it, the player is trying to hit the opponent’s zone. Depending on the place of the hit, it is awarded with from one to five points.

A sports game created by Camelot Co. Ltd., specifically for Nintendo 3DS. The game offers various sports disciplines, such as football, horse racing, golf, baseball or tennis. Each discipline can be viewed as a separate game, and the contestants are represented by characters such as the titular Mario, Luigi, and other Nintendo characters. Apart from the single-player mode, Mario Sports Superstars also features competition-oriented multiplayer equivalents (playable online or via local network).

We play as a person that manages both baseball team and its infrastructure as well as all financial aspects, among which we have to take care of the team's budget, sign new sponsor contracts or pay people that work with us. During the game we can transfer players, set training programs, create our team's line-up and create tactics for given matches.

Similarly to its predecessors, in the game, we lead one of thirty clubs of the American MLB league to take part in the 2017’s baseball league games. Given the full MLB license, there are actual teams and thirty existing sports arenas. Moreover, we can also play matches with classic rosters from previous seasons.

Similarly to the previous installments, MLB: The Show 17 uses the Major League Baseball license which includes numerous professional baseball teams from both USA and Canada, along with their rosters. As always, we are dealing with an extensive baseball simulator with numerous managerial features. The game offers a wide range of game modes, from single matches up to whole seasons.

Old Time Hockey offers a retro setting and simple controls – each player is controlled through a convenient control scheme that bases on 2-3 buttons. Moreover, the game’s Beer Mode utilizes a control scheme which requires only one hand, freeing the other one completely.

The title, developed by Wicked Witch Software, is a hybrid of sports and management simulations – while playing, we not only play matches but also take care of the team manager’s responsibilities. Our tasks include determining team composition and tactics, taking part in drafts and making transfers as well as negotiating contracts and balancing the club’s budget. NBA Playgrounds is an arcade sports game inspired by the NBA Street game series. It was developed by Saber Interactive, a studio mostly known for their futuristic first-person shooters like TimeShift and Inversion. In NBA Playgrounds, players take part in basketball matches. Even though the gameplay is based on classic rules, it has not much to do with reality. The players can jump incredibly high and do various tricks during those jumps.

The experience combines arcade elements with a bit of simulation and tactics.

An unusual variation on rugby, created by Ludometrics and set in a medieval, fantasy world. The player assumes control over a team of bullies whose task is to place the ball in the goal of the opponents by any means necessary. Each of the participants is described by its own health bar, and what follows, limited strength. Since the game is set in a world ruled by warlocks and their magic, this element was included in the mechanics as well.

This game represents a very arcade approach to golf, although quick fingers are not the only thing that is necessary during the game. The developers implemented a rather realistic physics system which means that, in order to succeed, we need practice, skills and knowledge of the game mechanics.

Most importantly, EA Tiburon has implemented a full-fledged story campaign into Madden NFL 18, entitled Longshot. One gets to follow the story of a formerly promising NFL player, who after several years of break decides to reclaim his status and become a pro.

Although the gameplay is much more accessible than in simulators, fully learning how to play it takes much time because the golf fields are controlled by realistic physics. Everybody’s Golf introduces several novelties in comparison to the previous entries.

Sparc lets us take part in the eponymous sports discipline resembling the classic game of dodgeball. The players take static positions at the opposing ends of a long hallway and try to hit the opponent with the ball using motion controllers. Being stuck in one place doesn’t mean we can’t dodge by moving our body.

Windjammers introduces a unique sport, similar to air hockey, in which the players perform offensive and defensive maneuvers in order to score a point or prevent the enemy team from scoring one. The game offers a number of fields, from sunny beaches and up to full-blown stadiums. Moreover, the player can assume the role of one of six characters who differ in terms of appearance, statistics, and pitching method.

The game, developed by Climax, the authors of Sudeki, Bloodforge, and Rocket Knight, offers the ability to attempt to conquer one of the five most popular surfing locations in the world, such as Bells Beach in Australia or Waimea Bay in Hawaii. We are left with six surfers whose abilities and appearance can be customized thanks to a complex character creation system.

Another annual entry in the popular soccer series by Konami. Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 develops the ideas from the previous game. Real Touch +, a new system that is responsible for how players handle a ball, now takes more body parts into account. Thanks to that we can see animations that are much more different from each other when players receive a ball, hit it with their heads, dribble etc. Another important change is that matches are now slower which makes the game a little more realistic.
NBA Live 18

After the three previous installments, which were average games at best, the developer was given more time to create this new follow-up. Thanks to that, NBA Live 18 brings a few interesting novelties. Above all, the game introduces The One mode - the player creates their own character and takes part in matches in The Streets mode and The League component (the latter is the NBA league).

One of them is the Defensive Skill Stick system, ensuring better control over a player and the hockey stick during defensive maneuvers.
