During the game the player takes control of one of the three armies, and uses them to conquer the space by destroying all opponents on his path. The story campaign of the game consists of 100 levels, on which one uses various units gradually improved with some of the 100+ upgrades available.

The player assumes the role of a king, traversing the world, who acquires new subjects by giving gold to settlers. As a result, newly recruited subjects build and develop villages, creating tools, weapons, and fortifications essential for defense against raiding trolls.

Galaxy of Trian is set in a science-fiction universe, in which humanity gained access to advanced technology of an alien race, Trian, and uses it to strengthen rivaling nations. Gameplay mechanics match the tabletop original.
