The third standalone expansion for Men of War, a real-time strategy game. Similarly to the vanilla game and its two previous add-ons, it was developed by Best Way. This time around, the players can take part in the Vietnam War, fought in years 1955-1975 by US-backed South Vietnam and North Vietnam, supported in turn by the Communist Bloc. Both sides of the conflict have their separate story campaigns. The missions we have to complete include rescuing American prisoners, taking over important strategic points, and eliminating enemy officers. The title also lets us participate in historical events, such as ambushes on the Ho Chi Minh trail or defending a bridge during the Tet Offensive. Men of War: Vietnam gives the players control of a squad of several specialized units, while the gameplay itself is focused mostly on performing silent and precise missions.

It was developed by Virtuos, a studio known for their achievements in computer graphics (they co-created NBA 2K13, MLB 2K13, and Generator Rex: Agent of Providence, among others). Shades of Darkness introduces a new faction to the game, the Dungeon. The expansion also adds two new campaigns in which we control Raelag, a dark elf. The players get to know his demonic past, the time when he established the hidden city of dark elves somewhere in the far reaches of Ashan. The core rules of gameplay remain the same. However, Virtuos introduced new units, heroes, buildings, artifacts, and dynasty weapons.

An independent economic strategy game in which we develop and manage a network of factories on a hazardous planet. The title was created by two Czech programmers who drew inspiration from such classics as SimCity, Civilization and Transport Tycoon. Our responsibilities include taking care of resource supply, vital to erecting more buildings, constant development of our property, and introducing new technologies we invent in special research facilities. We also have to ensure our plants’ security for they are being constantly targeted by the planet’s natives. All of the aforementioned elements are joined together by a quite complex system of dependencies — because factories are more than buildings, they require equipment, armaments and adequate transportation network. The game’s 2D graphics are minimalistic and keep the player occupied with gameplay.

The third entry in the ground-breaking real-time strategy game series, this time calling back to the very first game from 1995. The game itself, however, takes us to the beginning of 21st century and once again puts us in charge of the weakened Nod Brotherhood or GDI alliance that tries to maintain the world peace under the command of General Salomon. Despite what we could have thought, the charismatic leader of Nod did not die under the ruins of his temple and is quick to begin a new conflict, which can change the world forever. Gameplay of Tiberian Sun doesn’t differ much from the original, though the creators from Westood studio made sure to implement some changes and novelties. Each faction has new buildings and units that force us to develop new tactics. There also additions like new, three-dimensional game engine, improved cutscenes with well-known actors (including James Earl Jones and Michael Biehn) and enhanced multiplayer for up to 8 players.

Naturally, each side of the conflict has their own units, buildings, and technologies. The gameplay combines the mechanics of the RTS classics with modern graphics and refurbished interface. It focuses on resource gathering, base development, and challenging tactical combat. An official expansion for the second installment in The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth series. It requires the basic version of the game to work. The Rise of the Witch-King expansion takes place between the War of the Last Alliance and the journey of the Fellowship of the Ring. This time the developers decided to be more creative and the game tells about the events that J.R.R. Tolkien described rather sparsely. The story of the expansion concentrates on the Witch-king of Angmar whose objective is to conquest the kingdoms of Arnor. The player assumes the role of the titular character and he must build power of his army and participate in the great conquests for the glory of Sauron. The gameplay in The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II: The Rise of the Witch-King doesn’t differ from the one used in the basic version of the game. However, the expansion offers completely new units (including Thrall Masters and Dark Dunedains) which can be used both during the story campaign and in skirmishes and multiplayer modes. Siege engines appear on the battlefield as well. In addition to that, the races from the basic version of the game received some new units and the AI behavior was greatly improved. The process of character creation has become much clearer and more intuitive.

A tactical RTS set during World War II that expands on the Men of War franchise. It was developed by Barbed Wire studio, known for its modifications to both games from Men of War: Assault Squad series. Gates of Hell gives us a wide view on the war, taking us on battlefields of all years and fronts: from snowy plains of USSR to sun-scorched sands of Africa. Gameplay is focused on the tactical layer, without any form of resource gathering or base building. We direct all of our attention to commanding our units, with building being limited to trenches or setting up barbed wire and mine fields. We can also take control of a single soldier and control him like in an action game. One of the strongest elements of the production is realism: the creators have carefully recreated not only appearance, but also battle skills of various armies.

The player can once again choose from two separate campaigns which focus on either the economic or the military aspects of the gameplay. The list of available siege machines and defense tools was expanded, the realism of the game was improved and a possibility to use various battle formations was introduced. The economic part of the game was improved as well – now it offers almost 140 buildings and 20 different production chains. The necessity to keep the stronghold clean was introduced. Ignoring this can lead to plague or an epidemic outbreak. The most visible change is a fully three-dimensional graphics engine. A stand-alone expansion for a war-themed RTS game created by Best Way (a Ukrainian developer) and released in December, 2007. In terms of game mechanics, Assault Squad does not stray far from the formula of the base game - the player fights in various places the Second World War left its mark on, taking control over American, Soviet and German, as well as previously unavailable British and Japanese squads. Contrary to the base game, the expansion focuses mainly on multiplayer experience, offering four modes, namely the Frontlines, Combat, Assault Zones and Skirmish. For those preferring single-player games, the creators prepared fifteen missions to be played in the Skirmish mode - one can compete against their friends or bots and their goal is to take over the outposts scattered throughout the map. Men of War: Assault Squad utilizes an improved version of the engine used by the core game, which had a positive effect mainly on the visuals and vehicle models, making them look more realistic.

A sequel to the turn-based science-fiction strategy game from Goldhawk Interactive, developed as a spiritual successor to the classic tactical game, UFO: Enemy Unknown. The story of Xenonauts 2 is not a direct continuation but an alternative retelling of the events from the previous game, telling of an alien invasion on Earth during the Cold War period. In general, the gameplay remains largely the same and is divided into two parts, namely, base management and combat missions. While in the base, we supervise the budget, conduct scientific research, and recruit soldiers, among other things. During the missions, we assume control over a unit comprising of several troops and make use of a myriad of both already known and completely new tactical possibilities. Contrary to its predecessor, the game offers fully 3D graphics, an enhanced physics engine, and an advanced artificial intelligence.

The fifth installment in the popular series of economic strategy games developed by studio Haemimont Games, which is responsible for the franchise since the third entry in the series. The game makes the player a leader of a small tropical island, responsible for governing it all the way from the colonial age through modern times and to the near future. Your tasks will be, as usual, to develop the city and take care of its industry and economy. You must also react in real time to the changing situation caused by natural disasters, different needs of the society, and global politics. The new installment adds the possibility to create your own dynasty and entrust the most important positions in the government to your own family members. For the first time in the history of the series the game features a multiplayer mode for up to four players.

An unusual strategy game with RPG features, developed by the British Lionhead Studios under the lead of a legendary developer, Peter Molyneux. Black & White takes us to the world of Eden, where a long-standing harmony and balance between the humans and the nature is disrupted by the appearance of many deities, whose untamed craving for power leads to countless conflicts and wars. We take role of one of such gods, with our task being to teach and guide our followers, as well as raise a familiar - a powerful creature that will assist us in fights and help control our tribe. Depending on our preferences, we can become a god loved by our people or a merciless tyrant ruling through fear. Our choices will also impact the growth of our familiar, which can turn into friendly and helpful entity or a fearsome monster.
