A turn-based tactics game set in the World War II, created by Spanish developer Pyro Studios. In Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines you take command of a small squad of specially trained soldiers sent on a variety of high-risk missions behind enemy lines. The game offers 25 missions with varying objectives and difficulty levels. One of the characteristic features of Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines is the fact that each member of the team has different skills. The key to success in most missions lies in using them in a smart and synchronized way. Your team is composed of a variety of commandos: a green beret, a driver, a diver, a minesweeper, a sniper, and a spy – each of them has unique skills not available for the rest. For this reason keeping all your men alive is essential for completing each mission – loosing just one of them makes reaching your objectives impossible.

An expansion to XCOM 2 developed by Firaxis Games. Its story focuses on the titular Chosen – a new type of agents working for ADVENT, who try to capture the leader of the XCOM group. To achieve this, those merciless specialists kidnap his followers and torture them to gather valuable information. They are so effective that they can even affect the strategic layer and destroy our global operations. XCOM 2: War of the Chosen introduces three rebel factions (Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars), with which we must keep good relationships if we hope to gain their assistance. Aliens also received reinforcements, with three more deadly species in their ranks. Additionally, ruins of long gone metropolises are inhabited by the Lost, consisting of mutated humans who hate both us and ADVENT. Thanks to this expansion, the campaign has been expanded with new locations and objectives. There are also additional abilities for the soldier class and a newly introduced SITREP system, which randomizes some parts of missions to bring more variety to the game. Command & Conquer (1995) is a legendary RTS, developed by an experienced American studio, Westwood – the people behind such classics as Eye of the Beholder, The Legend of Kyrandia or the worshiped Dune II. The action of this game takes place in the near future, where two factions – a terrorist organization, Brotherhood of Nod, and Global Defense Initiative – are fighting for influence. The stakes are high – global peace, and control over an invaluable resource – Tiberium. Each faction has its own set of buildings and units, among which there are infantry units, APCs, heavy tanks, fighter jets, or hovercrafts. The mechanics are based on Dune II, although the tactical layer and the AI have been significantly improved. The game is complimented by cinematic cut scenes, which comprise a 40-minute FMV. And let’s not forget about the multiplayer.

BattleTech, developed by Harebrained Schemes studio, known for Shadowrun, is a tactical battle game, which is a refreshed edition of a game released for PC in the 80s, as one of the first games by Westwood (Command & Conquer). The work was overseen by Jordan Weisman himself – the developer of the acclaimed series, MechWarrior, as well as the original BattleTech tabletop from 1984. The game is set in the year 3025, in a universe in which influential noble houses compete for dominance over individual zones of the Galaxy. In terms of mechanics, the game is a turn-based strategy with RPG elements, in which powerful mechs take the center stage. The centerpiece of the gameplay is a complex and partly non-linear story campaign, but the developers also provide a possibility to play with others in a multiplayer.

An independent economic strategy game in which we develop and manage a network of factories on a hazardous planet. The title was created by two Czech programmers who drew inspiration from such classics as SimCity, Civilization and Transport Tycoon. Our responsibilities include taking care of resource supply, vital to erecting more buildings, constant development of our property, and introducing new technologies we invent in special research facilities. We also have to ensure our plants’ security for they are being constantly targeted by the planet’s natives. All of the aforementioned elements are joined together by a quite complex system of dependencies — because factories are more than buildings, they require equipment, armaments and adequate transportation network. The game’s 2D graphics are minimalistic and keep the player occupied with gameplay.

The second standalone expansion for the 2009’s real-time strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. The action of Retribution takes place 10 years after the events of Chaos Rising. Despite the defeat of the Black Legion and the demon Ulkair, the fighting hasn’t stopped and the planet Aurelia remains a battlefield for many conflicts between feuding factions of mutually exclusive interests. When the Empire loses its patience and prepares to annihilate all life on Aurelia, the only hope to persuade the Inquisition is to stop the Chaos-corrupted Grand Master Kyras. New story campaigns allow us to assume control of all factions that were available thus far as well as the Imperial Guard. The expansion also introduces several changes to the gameplay mechanics, such as character abilities, powerful AoE attacks, and the possibility of gathering resources and then using them to train units and construct vehicles.
