An extensive turn-based strategy game that came out as the fifth installment in the Civilization series, a popular franchise created by Sid Meier. Sid Meier's Civilization V was developed by Firaxis Games Studios supported by the publishing company Take Two Interactive. In accordance with the tradition of the series, player becomes the leader of a selected nation and leads it throughout a period of several thousand years. Gameplay mechanics underwent no major changes, and the new solutions (such as implementation of neutral city-states, hexagonal map grid, and the limit of one unit per field) are mostly results of evolution of previously employed ideas. Some visible changes were made to the visuals, which are now powered by a brand new graphic engine.

The game was created by a French developer Eugen Systems, also known for titles like R.U.S.E. and the Wargame franchise. The story is set in the near future, where the player commands a special, top secret task force created by the UN in order to quietly deal with potential threats to the world peace. The gameplay mechanics feature typical RTS premises: before invading an enemy territory you have to expand your base and recruit an army, while keeping a steady flow of resources. Since the game is set in the future, it features lots of futuristic military equipment, including ground and aerial vehicles. Apart from the extensive single player campaign, the game features multiplayer options as well.

An original strategy game with RPG elements, taking place in a unique dieselpunk universe of 1920+, created by a Polish concept artist Jakub Rozalski. The game portrays an alternative history of Europe at the turn of the 19th century, in which humanity used their knowledge and means to build powerful walking machines, used not only in battle but also e.g. in agriculture. Thus the gameplay features not only the cavalry, airplanes and prototype tanks, but also rather primitive and awkward mechs, seemingly not of this age. At the same time, the game is firmly grounded in Polish history and references important events such as the Battle of Warsaw.

The first one are the humanoid robots known as Necron. They are a faction of undead killing machines. The second new faction is the Tau Empire. They are technologically advanced and have remarkable skills in diplomacy. The game takes place on a desert planet named Kronus, which sparks also the interest of other factions known from previous installments of the series (there are seven factions in total). In the campaign mode the player must conquer 25 provinces of the planet. The developers decided not to create a typical, lineal story (except for a few key moments), instead giving the players complete freedom in conquering the whole area. A modified character development system is one of the novelties introduced by the expansion – the faction leader can buy better equipment and skills with special points obtained during the game.

This new title was developed by the creators of The Settlers franchise, Blue Byte Software, who took part in the development of the previous Anno game. This one lets you play as a governor of a huge futuristic metropolis, and you have to make it thrive till you can launch an expedition to the Moon. Initially, the game is set on Earth, but eventually you move to the surface of our planet’s satellite, where you set up a colony to harvest and process resources. Despite its futuristic setting, gameplay mechanics remained faithful to the traditions of the franchise. Throughout the gameplay you get to construct various residential and industrial buildings, which develop automatically or can be upgraded manually, if you prefer.

Strategy, Games Workshop, Internet, LAN, Multiplayer, RTS, Science Fiction, Singleplayer, Warhammer 40,000.

A real-time strategy which takes place in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The game was released as a result of cooperation between the publisher THQ and Relic Entertainment, the studio known for Homeworld, among other games. The story of Dawn of War focuses on one of the many conflicts in the world of Warhammer. It focuses on Gabriel Angelos – the leader of Blood Ravens chapter of the Space Marines - who tries to stop an Ork invasion on his planet. Similarly as in the majority of real-time strategies, the essence of the game is leading troops during combat. Thanks to the unique setting and various futuristic weapons, the battles are spectacular and very brutal. The game lacks the typical resource gathering element, usually used for improving the base. Instead, the resource system was based on conquering and controlling key locations. The way how units look is worth mentioning – they are based on authentic figurines created by Games Workshop.

The fourth major installment of the legendary strategy game series which dates back to 1995. It was created by the Los Angeles division of EA that has been developing the series for a few years now. The game continues the storyline of its predecessors and focuses on the desperate struggle between GDI and Nod to stop the spread of Tiberium which threatens the planet with absolute sterilization. There are two separate campaigns at the player’s disposal, both combining typical solutions of the series with a number of innovations introduced to the gameplay mechanics. The game lacks raw material mining and features division into classes. Instead of stationary bases, we make use of mobile ones in the form of giant walking machines, the so-called crawlers. Similarly to Red Alert 3, the campaign can be played either solo or in cooperation, while multiplayer allows up to 10 players to play together.
