The game takes place in a virtual city full of many attractions and divided into themed districts. The players participate in various events, racing against AI opponents or other players. When you crash into a police car, you can also compete against the police.

The game was developed by Blue Byte Software, creators of The Settlers saga, responsible for the browser versions of various popular games (i.e. The Settlers, Anno, or Silent Hunter). In terms of the plot, Heroes Online continues the story from the last two big games of the series.
