The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

RPG 11 November 2011

A heroic action RPG and the fifth main installment in the popular The Elder Scrolls franchise. Bethesda Softworks once again takes the players to the fantasy continent of Tamriel. The plot of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set 200 years after the events depicted in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The main character is the last of the Dragonborn (Dovahkiin), a human (or a member of one of the several other available races) able to wield the powerful magic of dragons. With the arrival of the last Dragonborn, an old prophecy heralding the return of Alduin - the dragon god of destruction - is set into motion. The game combines elements of dynamic action with Bethesda-style cRPG, featuring a complex system of character development and a vast, open world. High quality visuals in the game are generated by the Creation Engine, Bethesda's original graphics engine.

In the game you encounter over 40 species of monsters and visit several carefully-designed regions, characterized not only by unique landscapes, but also their own communities, history, and culture. Oblivion offers greatly improved visuals powered by the completely overhauled game engine and the Havok physics engine. The story focuses on the mysterious Miraak – the first Dragonborn, wielding similar powers and abilities as the main protagonist. Hundreds of years ago he had gone mad and vanished from the material plane. During the game, the protagonist is tasked with stopping their mad predecessor from retaking the rule over the island. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Hearthfire
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Hearthfire

RPG 04 September 2012

The second, rather unique, DLC for the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series, an RPG series by Bethesda Game Studios. The expansion entitled Hearthfire does not introduce any new storylines and hardly any quests. Instead, it focuses on an entirely new feature which is the possibility to build a house and found our own family. Thanks to it, we can build the manor of our dreams (or several) without using additional editors. It is a complicated process, though, because it requires buying a plot of land, designing the building on a drafting table, gathering materials and processing them into construction materials. Having erected a house, we can furnish it, and then, for example, cultivate the garden or breed fish, bees, or cattle. Moreover, we can even adopt children that can be played with but also have to be brought up and protected.

The player's task will be to find the medicine and restore Vivec to health. Exploration and completing different quests given by the inhabitants of an extensive world remain the core of the experience. Fighting various enemies is another important part of the game. Although one can experience what this world has to offer solo, the adventure gets deeper when the player is accompanied by others. Apart from an additional place to explore and a new storyline, the add-on introduces a new character class, that is, the Warden. This class makes a great use of the magic of nature, but is also supported in combat by a tamed bear. A new PvP mode constitutes another novelty - the Battlegrounds are focused on three teams of four players fighting one another.
