June 22, 2017

Action, FPP, FPS, Internet, Co-op, Multiplayer, Online, Shooters, Tactics, Free-to-play.

An online tactical FPP shooter built around team battles, developed by Bohemia Interactive studio. It is a conversion of 2011 military simulator Arma III. Argo takes the players to a fictional island of Malden, which is a new version of a location from 2001 title Operation Flashpoint from the same developer. When remains of a space station fall on it, two competing factions – Clouds corporation and the paramilitary organization Flames – clash to acquire those fragments and obtain the technology used to build it. The game changes simulative character of the original to a tactical, team-based FPS, in which the players control a selected mercenary and take part in dynamic battles to develop him from a beginning adept to a true veteran. This requires individual skill and using cover from other players, as well as working together with the rest of the team and using tactical maneuvers.

The task can be made easier with special power-ups, letting us boost our accuracy, speed, and condition. A warfare-oriented strategy created by Blowfish Studios, notable for the warmly-received Gunscape. Siegecraft Commander takes us to a fantasy universe, fought iver by Knights of Freemoi and tribes of Lizardmen. The game offers a single player campaign, allowing the player to control both factions. In this case, the game is similar to a traditional real-time strategy. For a change, the multiplayer mode allows us to choose between real-time gameplay and a turn-based one. The battles were inspired by tower defense genre, with the players conquering more and more territory until they clash. There is a catch, though – each tower has to have a direct link to the center, and if the chain is broken, every subsequent link is destroyed. In order to win, every player has to build complicated installations, able to sustain heavy losses and remain functional. Siegecraft Commander employs a light-hearted, slightly cartoonish visual style.

Framed 2 employs comics panel-based narrative, constructed in a way that will allow the protagonist to get out of trouble. Finding the correct solution might often be a true challenge – before we get it, we will see a few other versions of the story, each ending tragically for our hero. All of this is presented with interesting, comic book-like visuals inspired by the noir convention.

A conversion and a console port of Sublevel Zero, introducing additional content and offering more spectacular visuals. Similarly to its predecessor, Sublevel Zero Redux was developed by Sigtrap Games. The game sees us enter a low-gravity underground site built by an advanced alien civilization. The rooms and corridors are filled with valuable technology – aside from survival, our goal is to salvage as much of it as we can. The game is seen from a first person perspective, with complete freedom to explore the three dimensional locations in a manner similar to what we could experience in the Descent or Forsaken series. Interestingly enough, the game contains a number of features seen in rougelike games: randomly generated levels and permanent death which forces us to begin a new playthrough every time our vessel is destroyed. We are also left with a crafting system that enables us to gather items and resources and then use them to build new weapons, parts, and other useful items.

Crypt of the NecroDancer: AMPLIFIED is an expansion pack to the well-received roguelike Crypt of the NecroDancer developed by Brace Yourself Games. AMPLIFIED takes place before the events of the main game. We play as the shapeshifting Nocturna. With her help, we will explore the dungeons ruled by the demon NecroDancer. Gameplay mechanics remain unchanged. Crypt of the NecroDancer: AMPLIFIED is still a mixture of roguelike and music video games where we explore procedurally generated dungeons, fight, and acquire more and more powerful equipment. Our enemies move to the rhythm of the music in their own unique style. Finding a proper combination of movements is the only way of defeating them. The expansion introduces new types of dungeons and new songs and remixes. Nocturna can also be accompanied by various pet pals.

In Deus Ex: Breach, we assume the role of a Ripper, a hacker whose task is to retrieve classified information on the biggest corporations of the Deus Ex universe. Mechanics-wise, the production resembles a first-person shooter set in cyberspace. Every server we break into is a visually different location, densely filled with various enemies and security measures. For our successes, we are awarded credits that can be spent on special content packs with equipment: from disposable items, through server mods and Praxis Kits, to new kinds of weapons. Players who would like to develop their character faster can make use of the built-in microtransaction system. Visually, the game offers an unusual style since almost all elements of the environment are composed of polygons.

There are two completely new playable characters available: Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. Each of the available fighters has their own story and set of moves, attacks, and combos. The game's visuals were also improved. All textures are now in high resolution, but we can still switch back to the retro-stylized pixel-art visuals if we want to. Though some things were changed and improved, the core of gameplay remains the same. The Versus mode allows us to fight with other players or against A.I. Instead of a turn-based tactical RPG, we get a fantasy hack'n'slash that uses the series' characteristic elements and characters, and throwing in only a couple of RPG elements. In terms of gameplay, Fire Emblem Warriors uses mechanics similar to those from the Dynasty Warriors game series.

RPG, 2D, Dungeon Crawler, Internet, jRPG, Multiplayer, Action RPG, Singleplayer.

A dungeon crawler RPG which is the third installment in the Cladun series. Similar to the previous iterations, Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku! was created by Nippon Ichi Software. The player is once again taken to the magical world of Arcanus Cella, which is a base of operations for heroes that set out on expeditions to dangerous dungeons. This time, the game begins at the end of the Sengoku period in Japan, when the country was brought to its knees by internal wars and rebellions. Damned souls are taken to Arcanus Cella - those cannot enter the path of reincarnation until they have taken care of their unfinished, earthly business. The player's goal is to help them, which requires one to explore dungeons characteristic for the franchise, filled with monsters, traps, powerful bosses, but also valuable artifacts. In combat, the player uses different melee and ranged weapons, such as katanas, warhammers, staves, bows or shurikens. Special abilities and features form a variety of character classes, both common, such as the Swordsman or the Mage, and more exotic professions, such as the Saint, the Priest, or the Onmyoji. The player-controlled character can by supported by their teammates thanks to the Magic Circle system being implemented in this installment as well. Both the faces of the characters and sprites of certain weapons can be modified in the in-game Pixel Editor.

An independent action game with RPG elements and roguelike mechanics, featuring pixel art visuals. Freaky Awesome takes the players to an alternative version of our world, where all sorts of monsters live next to humans. As you play, you observe the events from an isometric perspective, while exploring procedurally generated locations set in places like factories, underground tunnels and sewers. An essential element of gameplay is combat with various opponents, including powerful bosses. Gameplay is built around the protagonist’s supernatural ability: walking over the carcass of defeated monsters restores his health, but at the same time it intoxicates him, which can ultimately turn him into a monster. The key to success is to use that mechanics in a balanced way. Besides, when in combat you can also use traps set all over in-game locations. As he continues to make progress the hero develops his abilities; note, however, that death is permanent here. Freaky Awesome lets you play alone or in a four-person co-op.
