Battlefield 2042 Loses Head of Design After the Launch

Lead designer for Battlefield 2042 will soon part ways with EA DICE. Allegedly, this is not related to the post-release problems of his latest title.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Fawzi Mesmar, Battlefield 2042's head of design, will leave EA DICE on November 26;
  2. The developer has been planning this for a long time after receiving a job offer from another company that was willing to wait for him until the completion of BF2042.

Fawzi Mesmar - head of design at EA DICE - will be leaving the studio soon. As employees learned from an email sent by the company (via Video Games Chronicle), the developer responsible for Battlefield 2042, Battlefield V, and Star Wars Battlefront II will leave the team on November 26.

Mesmar explained that he had been preparing to part ways with his current employer for a long time. The developer received an offer "he could not refuse" from another company. Nevertheless, he wanted to stay at EA DICE until he finished work on the studio's "historic milestone," i.e. Battlefield 2042.

Mesmar also did not want the prospect of his departure to interfere with work on the project. Therefore, he only discussed his plans and successor with Oskar Gabrielson, CEO of EA DICE. Mesmar's replacement will be revealed "in due time".

Despite these explanations, the timing of Mesmar's departure announcement should be considered extremely unfortunate. The release of the latest Battlefield did not go according to the creators' plans. Just take a look at the user reviews on Steam (and other websites) - although clearly improving in recent days, the 30% positive feedback is not a result that can be expected from a high-budget production.

As if that wasn't enough, criticism comes not only from players, but also from EA DICE employees. Of course, not directly against the game itself, but the decisions of the management made during the work on Battlefield 2042, which influenced the final result. This did not prevent the game in finding buyers, but also does not bode well for its future.

EA DICE has already announced plans to fix BF2042. The first step is to be the so-called Update #2, to debut later today. The second update is scheduled to be released in December - you can find more details in yesterday's news.
