Mortal Kombat 11 had a great debut.

Analytical group SuperData has published a report with the results of digital distribution on the global gaming market for April this year. This category, which includes not only sales of the production itself, but also microtransactions and subscriptions, brought $8.86 billion, i.e. 7% more than in the fourth month of 2018.

In the PC games category, a 4% drop was recorded. It was caused by weaker sales of paid production, as the free-to-play segment increased revenues. The consoles, on the other hand, boasted a 17% increase.

Mortal Kombat 11 scored the best digital debut in the history of the franchise. More than 1.8 million copies of the game were purchased in digital distribution. In the same period, Mortal Kombat X found 400 thousand buyers. Such a big jump is mainly due to the growing importance of digital sales on consoles.

Apex Legends has fallen from the top ten best earning titles on both PCs and consoles. In April the shooter brought 24 million dollars, which is almost four times less than February. Overwatch and Hearthstone aren't doing well. They recorded a month-on-month increase due to the release of new content, but compared to April 2018, their revenues were 15 and 37% lower, respectively.

However, the devs of the NBA 2K series have reasons to be satisfied. Last month, players spent 101% more on microtransactions in games from this brand than in the fourth month of 2018. This is the biggest growth the series has seen in three years.

SuperData has also traditionally released a list of games that generated the highest revenue in digital distribution in April.
