Assassin's Creed Shadows is the next full-fledged part of the well-known game franchise published by Ubisoft. The game involves a series of quests, where you'll face more or less complicated problems. On this guide page, we present a complete list of main quests, along with brief descriptions of each of them. We explain how to complete the quests as well as suggest which of the two heroes to choose for specific activities and what rewards await you for completing missions.

The page contains plot spoilers and was written while playing in canon mode. The decisions automatically made by the characters are therefore considered by the developers as canonical.

Prologue

Region: Iga, Izumi Settsu

  1. The Lord's Favor - you will start the game with several very short missions done in a row. Follow Akechi Mitsuhide to meet with Oda Nobunaga. Talking to him will end the mission.
  2. Spirit of a Warrior - as Yasuke, you will learn the basics of combat. Kill a few shinobi standing in your way and approach Nobunaga to complete the mission.
  3. Flames of War - continuation of the previous mission. Fight your way into the castle, and sprint to ram the wooden doors blocking the way. At the end of the linear path, you will face an elite shinobi and learn how to destroy enemy's armor.
  4. Fight of the Kabushiba Ikki - you will play as Naoe. Follow your father and join the battle in the courtyard by getting rid of the marked enemies. Next, you have a stealth tutorial - you need to get to the box. On the way, you can hide in the bushes and kill enemies while hiding. Upon entering the kofun and picking up the box, the mission will be completed.
  1. The Onryo Samurai - the most complex mission of the prologue. Ride on horseback to Katano Castle and use the grappling hook to climb the tower. Observe the surroundings from the roof - you can mark enemies. In observation mode, you will see a blue dot indicating the mission objective. You will follow multiple false leads and then quietly infiltrate the castle - approach enemies from behind to kill them silently. After finding each target, use observation mode to find the next one. Eventually, you will find Ido Yoshihiro. Kill him by doing a scripted assassination from the air and then run towards the castle walls. Climb the wall, jump into the moat and swim out of it to escape from the castle. A long cut-scene will end the mission.
  2. Wake Up Call - a long retrospection. As a younger Naoe, you will spar with your father - the game will teach you how to duel and break through the enemy's guard. Follow Nagato and then talk to Matsu. Climb the nearby tower, from where you will spot a dead deer. In observation mode, look out for two blue dots - poachers. Approach and defeat them, then return to Matsu. This will complete the mission.
  3. An Unpayable Debt - follow Junjiro. You will spot a tanuki, which you will have to draw - sneak up as close as possible and use observation mode. Focus on the tanuki for a few seconds, and Naoe will draw it. Follow Junjiro again. After the cut-scene, you will receive a sword - try it out by cutting the bamboo growing on the sides of the paths in the temple. Cut enough bamboo to finish the mission.
  1. From Spark to Flame - head to Tomiko to learn how to expand your hideout. After this very short tutorial, you will learn how the Boards system works and finally gain access to the main assassination missions - you have to get rid of all members of the Onryo organization. There are two of them in the Settsu region.

The Wounded

Region: Izumi Settsu

  1. The Fatherless Monk - head to the Gansenji temple in the western part of the region. A battle is taking place in the temple courtyard - get rid of all marked enemies. Talk to Kyonyo to find out the identity of the Wounded - Wada Koretake. This will complete the mission.
  2. Stolen Faith - head northwest of the region and talk to Mitsumune in his camp by the waterfall. He asks you to get a statuette from the postal town east of the camp. You will find the statuette in one of the buildings - you can sneak in there or defeat the bandits. After taking the statuette, return to Mitsumune.
  3. The Killing Field - head northwest of the region. You have to kill the executioner - first, however, quietly get rid of his soldiers so they can't kill the captured civilians in case you are detected. Stay close to the palisade - there are bushes growing near it where you can hide and assassinate enemies. There is a shallow tunnel running through the middle of the camp - you can crawl through it. The executioner is tough and armored, so you will probably have to finish him off in open combat. Eliminate the executioner and free the prisoners to complete the mission.
  1. Heads Will Roll - talk to Kyonyo east of Amagasaki Castle. You will participate in the attack on the castle - first, get rid of all the snipers on the walls. They are marked with a quest marker. After getting rid of the shooters, run to the small courtyard in the north of the castle. Here you will find Wada Koretake - kill him by approaching him from behind or from above. Naoe brutally eliminates Koretake and sentences his captured soldier to death. This concludes the Wounded's thread.

The Golden Teppo

Region: Izumi Settsu

  1. Searching Sakai - talk to the gunsmiths in Sakai. A pair of gunsmiths is talking - crouch behind the nearby cover and eavesdrop on them. Then talk to them - one of the gunsmiths will start to run away. Catch and kill him (try to do it away from the guards). Next, head to the Imai estate in the southeaster part of the city. After the conversation, follow Sokun to complete the task.
  2. Dress for Success - talk to the merchant in Sakai, right by the docks. She will agree to sew a kosode for you if you bring her the silk stolen by pirates. Take the nearby boat and sail to the large ship nearby and get rid of the pirates - you can throw kunai at explosive jars to eliminate a large group of them at once. Take the silk from the chest in the center of the deck and return to the merchant to complete the mission.
  3. The Perfect Gift - talk to the tea merchant near the Sakai port and follow him. He will teach you how to behave during a tea ceremony. Naoe will choose a gift for the host - the canonical gift is a bamboo ladle. This will complete the mission.
  1. The Tea Ceremony - return to Sokun to automatically start the tea ceremony. After a long cut-scene, talk to the three remaining women and join them during the ceremony. You need to choose here which of the women is the Golden Teppo. Naoe will identify her target - Wakasa. When both women are alone, approach the golden teppo hanging on the wall and pick it up. Naoe shoots Wakasa in the cut-scene, which ends the Golden Teppo storyline.

The Horseman

Region: Izumi Settsu, Yamashiro

  1. Friend of my Enemy - talk to Tomiko in the hideout, and you will find out that Akechi Mitsuhide wants to meet with you. Head to one of the houses in Takano castle - the location is hostile, so you have to sneak in. Mitsuhide will tell you the true name of the Onryo organization - Shinbakufu - and the identity of their leader, Oda Nobunaga. Naoe agrees to undertake the mission to eliminate Nobunaga.
  2. Belly of the Beast - head to the Yamashiro region and talk to Ise Sadaoki, by the river south of Kyoto. He will send you for documents located in the city center, in a building just west of the Nanban temple. Sneak across the rooftops until you reach the top of the building you are looking for. Quickly jump down to the ground, go inside, grab the documents and run away. Return to Sadaoki to complete the task.
  1. Temple of the Horseman - a long and important mission about assassinating Oda Nobunaga. Talk to Akechi Mitsuhide in a small village on the southern outskirts of Kyoto. You will have to sneak through the Honnoji temple all the way to the large building at its far end. After starting the mission, turn around and enter the tower behind you. From there, you can walk across the roofs all the way to the main building. Jump into the bushes, climb onto the roof of the main temple by using a grappling hook and enter through the back doors. You can stop sneaking around - entering the building triggers a cut-scene, after which you will fight Oda Nobunaga. The biggest threat is the burning wood that falls down from the ceiling - the places where they fall are not marked in any way, so always be ready for a quick dodge. Nobunaga is not particularly dangerous and can perform a series of up to three attacks. After the fight, watch the cut-scene. You have been deceived - Nobunaga is innocent, and Akechi Mitsuhide is a member of the Shinbakufu. This will finish the mission and automatically start the next one.
  2. Thunder and Lightning - you go back to Yasuke. Fight your way through Katano Castle all the way to Naoe hidden inside. The mission should not cause you any problems - there are few enemies, and the mission is more of a repeated tutorial on how to play as Yasuke. Reaching Naoe will automatically start the next mission.
  1. Mibuno Showdown - the whole mission consists of a boss fight - your opponent is Momochi Sandayu. Sandayu is a shinobi, so watch out for his dirty tricks - he can throw smoke bombs, hide in them and then throw poisoned knives at you (can be blocked). He can also perform sudden series of unblockable strikes with his kusarigama. Occasionally, he can also perform a quick attack without a flash - watch out for his movements, not just the flash of his weapon. Defeating Sandayu will complete the quest. Naoe and Yasuke officially join forces - you can now switch between characters.

The Fool

Region: Yamashiro

  1. The Bad Brother - head to the Byodoin temple and talk to Ise Sadatame. After a short conversation, you will learn the identity of the Fool - Ise Sadaoki.
  2. Missing Missive - go west from Kyoto, to the bridge on the nearby river, and talk to the messenger. Sneak into the nearby bamboo forest, where you have to defeat the thief Gennojo in a duel. He shouldn't cause you any trouble - he mainly uses single, non-blockable attacks, which are easy to avoid, exposing him to a counterattack. Return to the messenger to complete the task.
  3. Inside Help - go to the Kiyomizudera temple and talk to Ujimasa. In exchange for his help, you must eliminate all members of the Twisted Tree, which means the entire Takahashi clan. Everyone is in Kyoto. You can ignore Goro and Ichi-Hime - as soon as you kill their father, Inoshichi, they will not be marked as targets anymore. Taro and Saburo are at the Asukai clan's headquarters. Taro is alone, so he is an easy target for Naoe. Saburo has a heavily armored guard, so Yasuke will prove to be a better choice. Shiro is located in the courtyard of the enemy-filled Nijo palace and is heavily armored, so we recommend defeating him as Yasuke. You can lure him onto the castle wall and kick him into the moat to drown him. Inoshichi and Jiro are waiting in their mansion in the south of the city - there are many enemies there that Yasuke can easily get rid of. After annihilating the entire family, return to Ujimasa to complete the task.
  4. The Rising Tide - Head to Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine and wait for Ise Sadaoki. After a short conversation, the task will end.
  1. Lost Honor - return to Sadatame in the Byodoin temple. During the mission, you will be switching between Naoe and Yasuke. First, Yasuke has the task of eliminating all enemies in the courtyard. Next, you have to sneak through the castle as Naoe and open the gate - as always, stick to the roofs and walls. The safest way is to go around, right next the outskirts of the mission area - the digital wall created by the Animus. After opening the gate, you will have to escort Sadatame through the castle as Yasuke. The opponents are focusing on you, not on Sadatame, so follow the ally while fighting the enemies along the way. Eventually, you will reach Sadaoki, with whom you will have to fight - choose Yasuke. First, get rid of the boss's minions, then focus on him. Sadaoki is capable of performing simple series of two unblocked attacks as well as long series of six blockable attacks. If you need a moment to catch your breath, you can lure him to the top of the stairs and kick him down, then shoot at him before he reaches you. Eliminating Sadaoki will end the task and the Fool's storyline.

Yasuke's missions

Region: Omi

Performing missions revealing Yasuke's past is required to continue investigating the next members of Shinbakufu.

  1. The Lady of Whispers - head to the Hideyoshi residence, in the southeast of the Omi region. You will have to kill all the enemies in the courtyard. Next, head to the nearby Sotenji temple. Watch the cut-scene and meet Nene to end the mission.
  1. An Education - a long task mostly consisting of cut-scenes, showing how Diogo became a samurai and got a new name. Go to Azuchi Castle and read the letter in Sensei Nobutsuna's residence. The retrospection will begin - follow the master and participate in the sparring. The result doesn't matter. Head towards your quarters, and along the way, you will engage in a fight with a student from the enemy school. Watch a long cut-scene showing Diogo's training - after that, you will chase a Jesuit priest who has been eavesdropping on you. Chase him up the stairs to the barracks and watch another cut-scene. The next step will be a conversation with Nobutsuna and a Kata mini-game - press or hold the buttons displayed on the screen. After the next cut-scene, you will start the last part of the mission - you have to eliminate three enemy students. Try to separate them and fight one at a time. Killing all enemies will end the flashback and the entire mission.
  2. Lords of Azuchi - head to Azuchi Castle to begin the retrospection. Follow Ranmaru, and after a long cut-scene, you will participate in firearms training. Shoot at the targets in front of you - during the training a group of shinobi will attack you. Shoot at them with your teppo, and when they get closer, engage in hand-to-hand combat. After killing all the shinobi, the task will end.

The rest of Yasuke's thread is unlocked later in the main storyline and consists of eliminating the four targets listed below: Duarte de Melo, Kimura Kei, the Silver Queen, and Nuno Caro.

Naoe's missions

Region: Any

Naoe's tasks take the form of retrospections, which are automatically activated after completing a kuji-kiri. It doesn't matter where exactly you meditate - the missions will be activated in the same order. After the fourth mission, the next kuji-kiri will no longer trigger retrospection.

  1. Shinobi Warfare - follow Matsu and pick up the katana when you arrive at the location. After the cut-scene, follow the path up. You will have to sneak among enemy samurais - crawl in the bushes. At the end of the path, you will fight a mini-boss - watch out for the series of four attacks and for unblockable attacks. Keep a slight distance and attack him with charged attacks. The mission will end after the fight.
  2. Mind and Body - at the beginning of the task, complete the next kuji-kiri. Talk to Matsu and then head to the Kasuga shrine. Go through the roofs to avoid detection by enemies and take the scroll from the end of the shrine. Return to Matsu to complete the mission.
  3. A True Igan - head to Kunimiyama fort. Sneak through the fort using the roofs and bushes - if necessary, you can grab and choke individual enemies. Enter the roof marked by the game and eavesdrop on the conversation. Climb to the top of the watchtower and examine the corpse. Perform a leap of faith from the top of the tower and return to Sandayu to complete the task.
  4. Traditions - follow Nagato. After a long cut-scene, you will duel with Fujita Juro - after parrying three attacks, always dodge his fast, unblockable thrust. After the fight, enter the fort through the hole in the wall and talk to Nagato. Get inside the fort through the roofs and crawl on the ground. You will find the scroll in the building on the inner courtyard. After talking with Hattori Hanzo, the task will end.
  5. Wolves and Foxes - head to the southeast of the Yamashiro region, to Uji Tawara. Kill all the enemies fighting against Tokugawa Ieyasu's people. After the cut-scene, follow Hattori Hanzo and talk to him to complete the task.

The rest of Naoe's storyline involves her uncovering the history of the Assassin's brotherhood. You will find the tasks that make up this thread a bit further down, under the Assassins list. You can only finish this thread in the game's epilogue.

The Naginata

Region: Omi

  1. An Evening in Otsu - talk to Aoi in Otsu and head to the Seta bridge, east of the city. Pick up the letter from the scaffolding under the bridge and watch the cut-scene. Identify your target - The Naginata is Akechi Kagemitsu. You will have to defeat with several enemies. After defeating all enemies, the task will end.
  2. Against the Koga-Ryu - head to the Koga village and there, talk to Shotei as Yasuke. After the conversation, you will take part in a fight with multiple enemies. Defeat them, and Shotei will send you to Mount Hiei, to the Enryakuji temple, in search of his daughter - set off as Naoe. On the temple stairs, you will find a corpse and you will engage in a fight with a hostile shinobi. Keep climbing the stairs until you reach the top of the temple. You have to eliminate four enemies here - luckily, you have sniper support from Katsuhime, who can kill them with one shot. The task will end after the fight.
  1. Showdown in Sakamoto - head to the Sakamoto tower, located between the city of Sakamoto and Mount Hiei. As Yasuke, you will have to break through Yoshimitsu's mansion and kill Gamo Yoshimitsu, Akechi's bodyguard. Kill a few guards in the courtyard and enter the house to begin a duel. Yoshimitsu relies mainly on unblockable attacks, but watch out for his blue combination - a pirouette and a delayed low cut. After killing Yoshimitsu, you will switch to Naoe. Climb up the bamboo scaffolding onto the castle walls. You have to blow up three clusters of powder by throwing kunai or shuriken at explosive barrels. Stay on the roofs and don't come down to the ground, detonating gunpowder with accurate throws from a distance. Return to Katsuhime, and then to Shotei. Your last task is to kill Kagemitsu - we recommend choosing Naoe, as she has a very straightforward path to the target. Move along the walls and roofs towards the castle - as long as you stay off the ground, you should not be noticed. Use the grappling hook to get on the roof, and sneak inside through the open window. Kagemitsu is waiting one floor below the attic - quietly kill his bodyguard and confront the target. The enemy uses only unblockable attacks with the naginata - dodge until he becomes vulnerable, then counterattack. Killing Kagemitsu ends the Naginata storyline.

The Mourner

Region: Omi

  1. A Talk with a Lady - head to the ruins of Odani and talk to Kuma as Yasuke. After talking with Oichi, this very short task will end. She gives you a list of tasks. Complete them to weaken the Mourner.
  2. A Prayer for Omi - another task in which there is not much action. As Yasuke, head to the docks near the Isakiji temple. Get on the boat and cross the lake together with Oichi. You will have to participate in four rituals - pray in front of the torii gate, talk to the miko in the west of the shrine, wash yourself with water in the east of the shrine, and talk to the priest in the north of the shrine. Enter the main building and then escort Oichi to the shore. This will complete the mission.
  3. The Price of Rice - as Naoe, talk to Kuma by the Hachiman canal. He will send you to the nearby farmers, who will ask you to kill the drunk samurai occupying their fields. This shouldn't cause you too much trouble - you can weaken him before the fight by performing an air assassination from a nearby roof. The farmer will reward you by revealing the location of the corrupt daikan - it's the suburbs of Azuchi. Enter his property through a hole in the wall, sneak through the bushes and get on the roof. Daikan is standing in front of the building, unarmed - kill him with a precise throw of a kunai to the head and then quickly escape. Return to Kuma to complete the mission.
  4. Nagahama Black Powder - head to the Tempo factory right next to Nagahama castle. There is a table and a letter on the high-set wooden scaffolding, near the roofs - read it. Get on the nearby boat and sail to the huge ship transporting gunpowder. Swim up to the bow - you can climb to the top of the ship using the wooden beams on the bow. Enter the building through the open, high window in the castle, kill the guard and take the bomb from the table. You must now sabotage the gunpowder - it is located at the stern of the ship. Climb onto the roof, and from there jump onto the edge of the ship. When the guards aren't looking, sneak into the designated place, plant the bomb and jump into the water. The ship explodes, which ends the mission.
  1. Unmasking the Wheel - go to the shrine in Shiotsu and wait by the wall where the weapon is leaning. As Naoe, cross the roofs to the other side of the village, all the way to the roof of the tavern. Enter the tavern through the back door and quietly kill the samurai, then return to the place where you have to meet with Yasuke. Again as Naoe, you can sneak into the Hogonji temple - go through the forest to the temple grounds and climb onto the roof of the nearby building. Jump onto the stone column, and then onto the temple's roof. Wait until the guards aren't looking, jump down and quickly open the front door. You will discover the identity of the Mourner - it's Oichi. You will have to decide what to do - canonically Naoe and Yasuke decide to spare her. This concludes the Mourner's thread.

The Noble

Region: Harima

  1. The Rengakai - head to the suburbs of Himeji castle and talk to the renga master. The majority of the task consists of conversations, cut-scenes, and following the characters indicated by the game. At the end of the mission, there will be a small fight - defeat all the ronin, but first focus on the shooters standing at the back of the courtyard.
  2. The Scent of War - Head to the Old Port of Aga and talk to Yukinaga. He will order you to talk to the nearby suspected merchants. The conversation will end in a fight, so it's better to do it as Yasuke. As Naoe, sail to the nearby Aga Hontokuji temple and investigate three objectives - look out for blue dots in observation mode. Enemies in this task often gather around explosive jars - you can throw kunai or shurikens at them to eliminate entire groups at once. After collecting the clues, return to Yukinaga.
  3. Losing Hand - head to the western Himeji, to Tokubei's house. You will find several bandits here - one of them is in Suzu's room, Tokubei's wife, so be ready to make a quick assassination as soon as you enter the room. Talk to Suzu and go to the gambling house in search of her husband. You can ignore the guards - go through the wall and quickly descend the stairs to the basement, where you will find your target. Tokubei will start running - chase after him until he stops and talk to him. This will complete the mission.
  4. A Peculiar Guest - head to the Junisho shrine and talk to the shrine maiden in the courtyard. Defeat a hostile shinobi - watch out for smoke bombs, but the opponent herself is very fragile and should die after just a few attacks. Go to the Itatehyozu shrine and talk to the young Hideie. Follow him to trigger a cut-scene. You will learn the true identity of the Noble - Ukita Naoie. The enemy will send out a large group of shinobi against you. If you play as Yasuke, fight - if you play as Naoe, save yourself by escaping. Sprint towards the nearby wall, climb it and leave the shrine grounds. This will complete the mission.
  1. Spring and Fall - return to Himeji castle and talk to Kanbei. As Naoe, you will have to eliminate three spies - walk on roofs and walls, head deep into the castle, spot spies in observation mode and kill them by throwing a kunai at their heads. Then go to the gate and open it for Yasuke. As Yasuke, get rid of all enemies around the honmaru and watch a cut-scene. You will have to chase Naoie - as Naoe, you can run past enemies and climb to the top floor of the tenshu via the outer walls (there is an open window three floors below the roof). Sneak past the enemies to the attic or kill them. When you are anonymous, go up to the attic and face the Noble in a duel - choose to fight as Yasuke. Naoie is not particularly dangerous (watch out for the series of three attacks) but when he falls to half health, he will summon two shinobi for help. Kill them quickly and finish off the main target. Naoe will kill Naoie in a cut-scene and reveal the truth to Hideie about his father's death. This concludes the Noble's thread.

The Ox

Region: Harima

  1. A Voice in Anger - head to the Tanjosan Myoyoji temple. There are several hostile soldiers holding a tied up abbot in the courtyard - you need to get rid of them. One of them is heavily armored, so Yasuke might be a better choice. After talking to the abbot, watch the cut-scene. You will learn the identity of the Ox - Bessho Harumasa. You now have to get through the temple and free Nakamura Tadashige. If you want to sneak around, as usual, stick to the roofs - you can throw a smoke bomb into a cluster of enemies guarding the prisoner, which will allow you to silently kill them all. After freeing Nakamura, make your way to the tenshu and talk to him to complete the task.
  2. Astray - head to the Hiraiyama fort. The area is surrounded by a palisade, but you can access the outer courtyard through an open window of the building standing by the fence. As always, walk on the roofs, towers, and walls, avoiding the ground and guards, until you reach the main courtyard. Here, take out the guards and the commander sitting by the screen, and take the documents he was guarding. Leave the fort and return to Nakamura to complete the mission.
  3. Brothers in Arms - head northwest from Miki, right by the river. Next to the wooden hut, you will see a fight between the ronin Koshiro and enemy soldiers - go help him as Yasuke. Next, head to the Jorakuji temple near Kanki castle, where you will see the duel between Koshiro and Seiji. Go help him - as Naoe, you can approach Seiji from behind during the duel and seriously injure him with a stealth attack. After the fight, Koshiro will decide to spare Seiji. This will complete the mission.
  4. Of My Enemy - talk to the merchant Hiromichi's employee in Takasago. Follow him - Hiromichi will send you to the ship anchored near the Takasago shrine to kill the Ox's lieutenant. This is a job for Yasuke - the lieutenant is sitting in his room, watching both entrances (the open window and the ladder), so you probably won't be able to sneak up on him. As Yasuke, take the boat from the shore, approach the ship from the bow, climb onto the deck via the bow, kill all the enemies, and finally the lieutenant. Return to Hiromichi - the heroes will refuse to give him the found documents. This will complete the mission.
  1. Broken Horns - talk to Nakamura to start the attack on Miki castle. As Naoe, sneak inside to kill five shooters. Everyone is standing by the eastern palisade. Be careful when entering the tower, so that one of the enemies in the courtyard doesn't spot you. Stand on top of the fence and look out for Yasuke. As Yasuke, you will fight Tsuno and his men - as always, get rid of the minions first, and then deal with the main enemy. Once again as Yasuke, you will have to fight your way through the castle - kill enemies along the way to the main courtyard, where you will fight the Ox. Harumasa is very tough, but also very slow and uses short, unblockable attack combos. A very easy way to defeat him is therefore to use a kick - it will push him back several meters. Then you can shoot him with a bow or a teppo and kick him again when he reaches you. Yasuke will ultimately kill Harumasa. This concludes the Ox's thread.

The Wise

Region: Yamato

  1. A Chance Encounter - head to the Omiwa shrine, located in the southern part of Nara Heartland, and talk to Fuyu. Follow her and pray at all the shrines in the temple. After meeting with the mysterious Kojiro, head to the eastern suburbs of Koriyama and talk to Tsutsui Junkei. This will complete the mission.
  2. Restless Spirits - head to Katsuragi, where you need to talk to several priests. The conversation will lead you to the Gokenin estate nearby. Sneak into the main building where you must read a letter. Next, head to the Hachiman shrine, located not far to the northeast of the estate. Talk to Kojiro, who will guide you to the nearby ruins of Tatakori castle, where you have to get rid of the bandits. Sneak in there as Naoe and reach the viewpoint. The viewpoint is not considered a hostile area, so you can change your character there. Descend to the courtyard as Yasuke and defeat both the boss and the remaining enemies. Investigate the bandits' loot warehouse to complete the mission.
  3. The Lost Envoys - head to Mitsue, a village located between Takatori and a hidden river. Talk to all the witnesses. You will have to duel a drunk soldier - he only uses unblockable attacks. Be careful if he hides his kanabo - his punches are very fast. After the fight, head to the nearby iron ore warehouse and kill all the enemies. Talk to the prisoner who will guide you to Uda Matsuyama castle, specifically to the daimyo's residence in the center. Sneak into the castle through the southern wall - it's easier to climb and there are fewer guards there. Steal an invitation from the daimyo's residence, then go to the Katsugataisha shrine. Talk to Ayako and follow her to complete the task.
  4. Temple Stories - go to Todaiji temple and talk to Joken Hokkyo as Yasuke. Follow him, and then follow Kojiro. Examine three items - a kettle, a katana, and a letter on the table. Keep following Joken. There will be a fight in front of the temple gate - kill all the enemies. After the fight, head west to the megalithic treasury - do not go inside. Your targets lurk outside the vault - eliminate the three thieves and retrieve the document they stole. Head to the suburbs of Koriyama and give the scroll to Junkei to complete the mission.
  1. Darkness Falls - as Yasuke, you will participate in peace talks. Talk to Joken, Junkei and Ayako. The negotiations will be interrupted by a sudden, unsuccessful assassination attempt. You have to figure out who the saboteur is - your target is the Wise, Joken Hokkyo. As Yasuke, kill all the enemies in the courtyard, and as Naoe, pursue Joken, who is waiting just beyond the temple walls. Joken is not a difficult opponent, but beware of his attacks - all of them are unblockable. Killing Joken ends the Wise's storyline.

The Fox

Region: Wakasa

  1. Red Walls - head to the mansion in the north of Obama. Enter the main building, preferably as Yasuke - Nagahide, whom you are looking for, is defending himself here from intruders. Help him by killing all the enemies. Talk to the man to finish the mission.
  2. Chef Hong - head to Obama, to the red lanterns street, in Kara market. The chef you are looking for has a fairly large, open restaurant near the center of the district. Talk to the man to finish the mission.
  3. Smuggler's Gambit - head to Hiruga Bay, on the western shore of Lake Suigetsu. You need to investigate two wooden huts in the pirate's hideout. If you want to sneak around, use the numerous bushes growing here and pass under the wooden scaffolding on which the huts are built. Examining two clues in the huts will complete the mission.
  4. Revenge - as Yasuke, head to the Sokomo Gate in the far north of the region, specifically to Tsuruga castle. You can enter the castle grounds freely. Talk to the guard in front of the gates of the homestead and follow him to warn the Nagahide family about the impending attack. You will have to fight - the first wave of enemies will attack the front yard, and the second will try to get to the house from the back. After killing all the enemies, the mission will end.
  5. The Music - head to the Saifukuji temple, southwest of the Sokomo Gate, and talk to the musician playing the biwa. You will learn the identity of the Fox - Takeda Motoaki.
  1. The Performer - return to Hong's restaurant. After the cut-scene, as Yasuke, you will embark on a pursuit of the pirate Samemaru. Chase him - don't attack, for now he is invulnerable. When the enemy stops, you will fight him. The enemy is agile and can dodge your attacks, but he only makes single stabs with a knife and occasionally throws it. After killing Samemaru, you will once again play as Naoe. Listen to the sound of the biwa and enter the house it comes from. Quickly talk to the Noble inside - if you're too slow, he will call the guards and you will have to kill them. The Noble will tell you where to find Motoaki. Run to the house on the south of the street by following the sound of a biwa. Read the letter on the table and watch the cut-scene, after which you will fight with Takeda Motoaki. The opponent uses only unblockable, red attacks - dodge until he becomes vulnerable. Naoe fatally wounds Motoaki, which ends the Fox's storyline.

The Two-Faced

Region: Yamashiro

  1. The Peasant Who Would Be King - head to the Ginkakuji temple, east of the northern district of Kyoto, and talk to Nene. Together, you are developing a plan to murder Akechi Mitsuhide. A short conversation will finish the mission.
  1. Topple the Traitor - the time has come to assassinate Akechi Mitsuhide. Speak with Hideyoshi at his camp near Oyamazaki village to start the battle. You will have to fight your way through Shoryuji Castle and reach the tenshu, where Mitsuhide is hiding. We recommend choosing Yasuke - infiltration as Naoe will lead you straight to the pair of elite samurais waiting in the attic. They can be a serious challenge to Naoe. As Yasuke, get rid of all enemies in the courtyard and enter the tenshu. After the cut-scene, you will play as Naoe - quickly get on the horse and chase the fleeing Akechi. You will catch up with him in the village of Oyamazaki, where you will have a final duel with Akechi Mitsuhide. The fight is divided into two phases - first you will destroy the traitor's armor as Yasuke, and then you will defeat him as Naoe. While fighting Mitsuhide, watch out for his two moves - kicking sand into the eyes (dodge it) and a deflection with the sword kept behind his back (dodge it, Akechi will immediately counter after the block). Keep him at a moderate distance - if Akechi doesn't hit you with the first attack of his combo, he often stumbles and staggers, which gives you a moment for a counterattack. After defeating the traitor, you will finally learn the identity of the Shinbakufu leader, the Horseman - it was the shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiaki. Naoe will ultimately kill Mitsuhide before he has a chance to commit seppuku. The Shinbakufu have been decimated, and the last step is merely a formality - a confrontation with the already powerless leader.

The Real Horseman

Region: Yamashiro

  1. The Man Behind the Mask - the final confrontation is a short cut-scene. Head to the Kuramadera temple in the north of the region, where Ashikaga Yoshiaki is waiting for you. After a short conversation, the former shogun surrenders, handing over the box Naoe is looking for. Naoe and Yasuke ultimately decide to spare him. This concludes the Shinbakufu thread - your last task will be to hunt down Yoshiaki's accomplices, four Templars.

Duarte de Melo

Region: Wakasa

  1. Dark Waves, Black Ships - head to the commercial port in Obama, where in one of the buildings you will find a letter from Duarte de Melo. He will dock after three signal lights are lit - take care of it. All the lights are located on the shore, in characteristic small booths - you can use boats to get to them. After lighting all the lights, wait in the designated place.
  1. My Name is Yasuke - follow the linear path along the shore, killing hostile Portuguese along the way. At the end of the path, talk to the rower who will take you to Duarte's ship. You will duel him here - Duarte uses a sword and a pistol. His attacks are unblockable, but he himself is not too dangerous and has quite low health. Yasuke will kill his tormentor, the first of the four Templars.
  1. The Path He Walks - head to the Jesuit residence in southern Kyoto, in the Yamashiro region, where you will talk to Luis. A short conversation will finish the mission.

Kimura Kei

Region: Kii

  1. Fighting for the Cause - head south of the region to the village of Takahara, where you will talk to a ronin. He will guide you to the north of the region, to Koyasan, specifically to the Okunoin cemetery. Find and talk to Kumabe Ujiie. Follow him - do not attack anyone, and you will easily obtain the necessary information. Next, head southwest to the training square in front of the Hibuse Fudo temple. Prepare yourselves - you will engage in a very long battle with Kimura's students. You have to break through to the temple where Kimura is waiting - follow the path laid out with wooden planks. Occasionally, you will come across closed doors - in such a case, fight the enemies until another enemy opens them from the other side. There are many cliffs in this area from which you can throw enemies off. Before entering the temple, you will fight with three elite students, and inside, you will duel Kimura Kei. The fight is divided into three phases - the enemy first fights with a katana, then a nodachi, and finally with dual swords. Be careful of the burning oil spilled on the floor. Kei mainly uses unblockable attacks - watch out especially for quick thrusts. Yasuke will ultimately kill Kimura, which will complete the task.

The Silver Queen

Region: Tamba

  1. The Silver Queen - head to the Silver Lands and talk to the spy standing outside the Tada village. Enter the village (the European guards will let you in) and talk to the Silver Queen - Hosokawa Tama. Follow her and have a cup of tea with her, then watch a cut-scene. After a long cut-scene, you will form an alliance - Tama will tell you where to find Nuno Caro, in exchange for saving the young Lord Mitsuyoshi Akechi. Prepare yourselves, equip melee and ranged weapons, then ram the door with a sprint to get out of the warehouse. You will have to fight your way out of the silver mine. Fight the enemies and remember to shoot the alarm bells whenever an enemy rushes towards them. The task will end after you leave the mine area.
  1. A Promise - head to Kameyama Castle and prepare for a long battle. You will have to make your way to the inner courtyard, where in one of the houses you will find a wounded maid. She will give you her key to young Lord Akechi's cell. Enter the tenshu and open Mitsuyoshi's cell. Follow the boy to the exit of the castle, killing two groups of enemies along the way. When you set him free, return to the castle and get rid of the enemies in the courtyard, including the mini-boss Balthazar, and recover Mitsuyoshi's katana. Head to the nearby Atago shrine, where you will complete the mission. Tama will keep her promise and reveal to you where Nuno Caro is hiding.

Nuno Caro

Region: Tamba

  1. End of the Line - it's time to eliminate your last target. Caro is hiding in Takeda Castle on the western edge of the map. Fight your way to the inner courtyard and watch a long cut-scene. Start making your way through Caro's people, going up the tenshu. On the top floor, go out through the window and move to the second, taller building. You will have the final duel with Nuno Caro in the attic. Caro is a pathetically simple opponent, almost indistinguishable from basic Portuguese enemies. Just watch out for his quick series of strikes. By killing Caro, you will end the Templars' plans in Japan and conclude Yasuke's storyline.

The Assassins

Region: Izumi Settsu, Yamato

  1. Secrets of the Blade - head to the old kofun east of Sakai. At the end of the tomb, examine the closed doors and all the items in the secret room. Leave the kofun to complete the task.
  1. Meaning of the Blade - the last mission in Naoe's storyline. Head to Yamato, southeast of Katsuragi, to Sakafuneishi. Investigate the Assassin's symbol to open the tomb and enter inside. After examining the underground room, follow Hattori. After a long conversation, you will have the final duel with Hattori Hanzo. Hanzo's attacks deal very high damage, but he tends to stand still and wait for your attacks. His most dangerous move is the kunai throw, which is not preceded by the typical flash - watch his left hand carefully and dodge. Also beware of smoke bombs, which can limit your visibility. Naoe ultimately spares Hanzo, which concludes her storyline.

Ending

The main storyline ends after completing the personal stories for Naoe and Yasuke. To unlock the final missions of these threads, you must first eliminate all members of the Shinbakufu.

The final missions in the game are End of the Line and Meaning of the Blade. To finish the main storyline, you have to complete both of these tasks. The order doesn't matter - the end credits will appear automatically after completing the second of these tasks.
