War for the Overworld is a humorous fantasy RTS and a spiritual successor to the 1997 Dungeon Keeper. It is the first game developed by the indie studio Subterranean Games. In War for the Overworld, we play as a demonic Underlord whose task is to turn his underground kingdom into a true empire of evil. Emperor Stockington and his forces will try to stop us. We will have to gradually expand our dungeons and train the monsters that dwell there. Their job will be to exterminate the heroes that enter our kingdom. To do so, we will have to create a well-functioning economy. That will make us earn gold and resources which we will have to spend on building new dungeon areas, defensive structures, buying and setting traps, and rewarding the more demanding monsters in our menagerie. The game features both single player and multiplayer modes.

The game was created by an Ukrainian developer studio with a somewhat unique name – Flying Cafe for Semianimals, whose members formerly worked on such titles as Heroes of Might & Magic V and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. The story focuses on a young man and his robotic female companion, who travel to desert hills of Mongolia. The player has to find his partner’s missing body parts and bring her back to full functionality. The core gameplay has you freely explore the open world, solve logic puzzles and look for hidden objects. Often you get to make various choices that shape the ending of the story. The developers mixed elements of different epochs and cultures coming up with a multidimensional story that eludes clear-cut classification.

A high level of freedom in selection of future tasks is only an addition to the expansive, linear story told with fancy methods – including impressive cutscenes. The visuals of the game are one of its great advantages – despite the low budget, the game looks very impressively.

Since you are playing as a little child, most of the time you will be crawling or walking slowly, only occasionally running, for short period of time.
