Ys Origin is a Japanese action cRPG game belonging to the popular in the "Cherry Blossoming Country" series Ys. It tells the story of events that took place long before the story known from the first installments of the cycle. In the game we direct the actions of three daredevils, and each of them has a unique style of fighting and skills. The player stands eye to eye with dozens of opponents, including a huge boss stature.

In Urban Empire, we control an entire family from which the subsequent mayors of the city originate, and our tasks include developing the infrastructure and new districts, driving the economic growth, and ensuring our citizens’ satisfaction. The gameplay is richer thanks to the fact that, as decades pass, both the technology and the geopolitical situation change, constantly providing us with new challenges. Another interesting feature is the “unofficial” part of being a mayor — we can resort to various political and personal games as well as corrupting and blackmailing unfriendly persons.

Players become the survivors, who need to find shelter and supplies in order to have a chance against the living dead. Interestingly, if your character dies, you return to the hideout and start again as someone else, while your former avatar joins the hordes of zombies. Comparing with the Wii U original the new version cam boast noticeably improved graphics and expansive multiplayer with various online play modes.

A mix of simulation and strategy game developed by the independent studio Killerfish Games. The plot is loosely based on Tom Clancy’s works, telling an alternative version of history, in which the Cold War eventually turned into World War III. The player assumes the role of a submarine captain and tries to stop the Soviet Union’s plans to establish an outpost in Scandinavia. Mission objectives focus on fighting enemy naval and land units, preventing sea landings, and raiding convoys. We not only get an extensive arsenal at our disposal, which consists of torpedoes and long-range missiles, but also various kinds of defensive means and a realistic sonar. Combat takes place in real time. We get to face over forty types of enemy units, starting with ships, though submarines, to choppers and aircraft. The developers put emphasis on realism, which translates into battle tactics applied by our adversaries and units recreated with attention to detail.

An open-world economic tycoon game that focuses on managing a railroad company. The credit for developing this title goes to a Czech gamemaker - Jan Zeleny, who worked on the game for many years. Inspired by such classics as Transport Tycoon or Railroad Tycoon II, Mashinky gives us an opportunity to lay tracks, build and upgrade stations, work on new models of engines, and even to view the game world through the eyes of a train driver in charge of keeping the machine on the route set by the player. Apart from an FPP view and an aerial view, which is typical for strategies, Mashinky brings a special, schematic-isometric perspective that displays the map in the form of a legible engineering grid. This view mode is used to create new intersections of tracks and to mark spots for new structures. The game's economic system is definitely its distinctive feature, as it is not based on virtual money, but rather, on tokens inspired by board games. Those can be obtained through completing various assignments, and can be spent, for instance, on upgrading one's rolling stock - the electric tokens obtained through delivering fuel to a power plant allow the player to make progress towards electric trains. Because the game world is generated procedurally, each playthrough is a unique adventure.

The game also features many jRPG-style battles, taking place in turns on two separate screens. The visuals are colorful and detailed, which makes them resemble the original comics.

The gameplay in Hyper Light Drifter is based mainly on exploration and dynamic combat, featuring many tactical options. Character’s primary weapon is an energy sword of limitless power but he can also use pistols and rifles charged with batteries. Moreover, he is accompanied by a flying probe which can generates a shield to defend him, provide light in dark corridors, help find hidden passages, and manage the character’s equipment. Both the items and the probe can be upgraded by installing additional modules.

A two-dimensional science-fiction platform game modeled after the genre classics. The game was developed by PlayWay studio, known mostly for many farming simulators. In the game the player assumes the role of a young scientist who cannot accept the death of his beloved. During one of his missions the protagonist finds ancient inscriptions from which he learns that there exists a way to obtain eternal life. Full of hope, he decides to go back to the hostile planet in order to examine the sources of the ancient knowledge. The gameplay mechanics are similar as in the cult classic, Flashback. While playing, the player will be exploring, solving riddles and conquering various obstacles. One will also fight hostile inhabitants of the planet. Main character’s special abilities, obtained thanks to the alien’s magic artifact, will help the player throughout the game. The Way is a tribute to classic platform games and it references to them in its graphics style as well.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is a remastered version of Final Fantasy Type-0, a jRPG released in 2001 on PlayStation Portable exclusively in Japan. The HD version was released on PC and 8th generation consoles. The game takes place in the fantasy world Orience, which, after a period of peace, was once again divided by war. Story focuses on twelve adepts from a magic academy who were delegated to defend the country's borders. Being a part of a greater whole (Final Fantasy XIII), Type-0 HD has all the characteristic elements of the Final Fantasy series. Combat system used in the game combines the turn-based mechanics with solutions known from many action games. The game offers a vast world, filled with interesting NPCs and side quests to do. There are twelve characters for us to play as. Each of them has a different character, combat style, and special abilities. The biggest difference between the PSP and remastered versions are the visuals, now in high definition.

A commercial version of a popular modification for Unreal Tournament 2004, developed by the small team at Shatterline Productions with the support of Tripwire Interactive studio. Killing Floor is a first-person shooter set in Great Britain, which is overrun by humans turned into bloodthirsty mutants. This has been caused by the Horizon organization, through the mysterious experiments it conducted. The players take control of one of six heroes trying to stop the expansion of the infected, save the healthy and restore the order. They will face nine types of enemies using various kinds of weapons on vast, open arenas created with Unreal Engine 2.5. The arsenal is complemented by a system of perks that can be used to exchange acquired achievements for improvements of heroes’ skills. Aside from complex co-op multiplayer mode for up to six players, the developers gave us also a solo mode and an editor for making new arenas and modifications.

The third installment in a series of tactical strategy games set in the World War II, as always created by Spanish developer Pyro Studios. Commandos 3: Destination Berlin places you as the leader of a six-men squad of special soldiers, whom the fans know from the first game in the series. Each of them has unique skills and specialization. The game offers 20 varying missions, split into four mini-campaigns: London, Normandy, France and Germany, and Stalingrad. Some of the objectives you must complete are e.g. the well-known search-and-destroy type of missions as well as some brand new ones, such as defending an Allied general from paratrooper landing, ambushing a German convoy, or capturing a train full of Nazis on its way from France to Germany. Mission structure has been overhauled and, in effect, maps are now divided into smaller sections. Commandos 3: Destination Berlin also offers more action and with each passing mission the player has to come up with new tactics and ideas. On top of that the developers implemented improved enemy AI and clearly better graphics.

The third large DLC expansion for 2009's Dragon Age: Origins. Delivering about 60-90 minutes of gameplay, Return to Ostagar takes the player back to the keep that first appeared in the core game. One day, a great battle between humans and the Darkspawn took place in the area. This new adventure begins when the protagonist learns about the existence of a person who survived the said battle and seeks help from the Grey Wardens. Above all, the player kills subsequent monsters that have occupied the keep and the battlefield surrounding its walls. Apart from the locations included in the base game, the player visits several new, snow-covered areas. Interestingly, the player is given the second chance to recruit a Mabari war hound, which can be useful if they had missed that opportunity in the early phase of playing the core game.

A science-fiction based TPP shooter, which is the fourth installment in a popular series by Volition. The plot of Red Faction: Armageddon takes place fifty years after the events shown in the previous game. The humanity on Mars has been forced to descend to hide underground. The protagonist, Darius Mason, accidentally causes an alien race to wake up from their slumber. As it turns out, the aliens are aggressive and bloodthirsty, taking over subsequent human colonies. Our hero has to deal with the alien invasion, and at the same time, absolve himself from the accusations that he is responsible for the whole situation. When it comes to mechanics, the game departs from its predecessor, introducing a more linear structure, with more emphasis on the plot and movie-like approach to narration. Regardless, the most characteristic element of the series, the ability to lay waste to the environment using various weapons and other tools, has stayed unchanged.

That allows him to carry three types of weapons, grenades, and explosives with him. The game's cover system also comes in handy. An unusual spin-off to the legendary Tomb Raider series. The game was developed by Crystal Dynamics - the creators of the franchise's latest installments. The game follows the adventures of a beautiful female archeologist and her friend - a Mayan warrior by the name of Totec. The characters set out for a journey, searching for a mysterious artifact known as Mirror of Smoke, which is to be used against the evil Xolotl, who has gained the power to control other spirits. Contrary to the third-person perspective the Tomb Raider games are usually played in, the spin-off is an isometric game resembling hack'n'slash titles in this aspect. The gameplay focuses on arcade elements and combat sequences, in which the player encounters hordes of ghosts - a special emphasis was placed on cooperation. The two characters have different abilities, therefore, close cooperation is the key to success. However, it is also worth mentioning that the game features elements which could be considered hallmarks of the Tomb Raider series as well, such as exploration of tombs and catacombs.

The battles take place in real time, in a fully 3D environment, with up to 10 thousand troops taking part in the encounters. The campaigns available in the game are based on historical events, and separated into three parts, taking place in early, high, and late Middle Ages.

Another tactical strategy game by Spellbound Interactive, the creators of Desperados. Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood takes place in the medieval England and its story focuses on the most famous outlaw in history and his fight for honor and justice against the local authorities. You lead a party consisting of such characters as Robin Hood himself, Little John, Friar Tuck or the beautiful Maid Marian, and each of them has their own unique abilities. The mechanics are similar to those from the Commandos series or the already mentioned Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, and during the 40 non-linear missions, linked with an interesting plot, you complete various tasks, from infiltration, through saving your companions, to classic attacks (such as e.g. capturing a caravan) and laying siege to a fortress.
