Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness
Strategy
March 14, 1995
The sequel to the renowned RTS from 1994, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness once again throws the players into the war-torn world of Azeroth. Although it has been over six years since the memorable defeat of the orcs, the invaders have not given up on their plans and now, with vengeance being their primary ambition, they have reached the borders of the human kingdoms by utilizing a giant armada of heavily armed ships. When it comes to the gameplay mechanics, the production is extremely similar to its predecessor; the player chooses one of the sides of the conflict and tries to defeat their foes by building up his base and creating a strong military. The gameplay for each of the races is remarkably similar, with distinct types of spells and spell-casters being the main difference between the factions. In contrast to the predecessor, in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness the developers have strayed away from scenarios played out in dungeons, and have prepared numerous varied environments and terrain types.

The plot refers to the sixth installment in said RPG series and takes the player to the lands of Enroth. Four commanders have competed against one another for power over the lands. The four commanders are: Lord Ironfist (a knight), Queen Lamanda (a magician), Lord Slayer (a barbarian), and Lord Alamar (a warlock). The player assumes control of one of these characters in order to conquer Enroth and eliminate the opponents. Exploration of new territories constitutes a fundamental part of the experience. In this phase, the player gathers resources, artifacts, visits and claims various locations (mines, for instance), conquers castles belonging to the opposition, as well as battles different creatures and other enemies. Both the exploration and combat sequences are turn-based here. The characters/commanders do not participate directly in combat, though they can support their forces using spells.

X-COM: Terror from the Deep
Strategy
October 27, 1995
A continuation of UFO: Enemy Unknown, a cult-classic science-fiction turn-based game from 1994, created by Microprose. The action of X-COM: Terror from the Deep takes place 40 years after the events known from its predecessor, in which the titular organization managed to defeat the alien invaders. As it turns out, some of the shot down alien vessels had fallen into the oceans, where the alien remnants created underwater bases, deciding to commence another invasion from the ocean depths. As the commander of X-COM, the player has to build and develop underwater bases, and then create new troops, which will intercept alien vessels, destroy their crews, and deliver samples for the scientists. In comparison to its predecessor, the gameplay in X-COM: Terror from the Deep hadn’t changed much, but the game employs an improved interface and an updated graphic engine. The number of alien species has also been increased, as well as the set of technologies, weapons, and equipment that can be used by our forces.
