Bannerlord - Disloyal Lords Becoming a Serious Issue in the Game

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord players have a new another reason to complain. This time, the problem has turned out to be lords, who can leave us almost immediately after being paid ridiculously large amounts of money.

Lords in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord believe in one rule: "Grab the coin and get goin'".

The launch of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord in Steam's Early Access was a dream come true for many. Unfortunately, as is usually the case with fulfilled dreams, after the debut, players started to pay attention to the game's various (and numerous) shortcomings. Some of them are "only" more or less annoying technical problems, but there were also complaints about gameplay imperfections. Such problems include the issue of acquiring vassals, who have no qualms about leaving us only a day or two after getting money for joining us.

It sounds absurd, but this is by no means an exaggeration. As we read in the official forum of the game, the bribed lordes are able to leave our ranks almost immediately. This was admitted by the developers from TaleWorlds, who also provided a reason for such behavior. The problem here is the very fact that potential vassals are demanding money, as this indicates their reluctance to join our kingdom. The higher the amount of money needed to recruit a lord, the greater their attachment to their current ruler, and thus the less chance they will remain loyal to us after the change of sides. Of course, one would expect the coin to buy us some of that loyalty. However, in the game, this does not change anything in our relationship with the new vassal - their loyalty does not increase as it does not in the case of granting them a village. This is the reason for the situation (via Reddit) when lords acquired for gigantic sums of money can abandon us the very next day.

Players are not delighted by the infidelity of lords in Bannelord (source: Reddit).

Developers admit that this is a serious inconvenience, especially at a later stage of the game. The simplest solution would be to make sure that by paying the lord the money they want we win their loyalty or make their attitude towards the previous sovereign kingdom worse. However, these are not the only problems with vassals - other players report random departure of lords after updating the game to version 1.4, regardless of their relationship with the ruler. Of course, mods can come in handy here, but let's hope that the developers will solve these issues in the basic version of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord.
