The game was developed by Stainless Games with the financial support of the users of the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Similarly to the first Carmageddon game from 1997, Reincarnation enables the players to participate in unusually gory races. The objective is not only to be the first at the finish line, but to cause more destruction and casualties among the pedestrians than the opponents as well. The driving model used in the game and the vehicle destruction system are both action-focused. In comparison to the previous entries in the series, the gameplay was made more varied by greatly expanding levels, filling them with secret places and unusual power-ups, and by offering a diverse list of characters and vehicles. Among the latter there are vehicles well known from previous games in the series and some completely new ones.
