The sequel to the renowned RTS from 1994, developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness once again throws the players into the war-torn world of Azeroth. Although it has been over six years since the memorable defeat of the orcs, the invaders have not given up on their plans and now, with vengeance being their primary ambition, they have reached the borders of the human kingdoms by utilizing a giant armada of heavily armed ships. When it comes to the gameplay mechanics, the production is extremely similar to its predecessor; the player chooses one of the sides of the conflict and tries to defeat their foes by building up his base and creating a strong military. The gameplay for each of the races is remarkably similar, with distinct types of spells and spell-casters being the main difference between the factions. In contrast to the predecessor, in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness the developers have strayed away from scenarios played out in dungeons, and have prepared numerous varied environments and terrain types.

Another installment in the popular historical strategy games franchise by Paradox Interactive, taking players back in time into the period of the bloodiest conflict in history – World War Two. As the player, your task is to come into power in your country of choice – either one of the superpowers of the time, or a militarily weaker country – and lead it through the global conflict. The plot of Hearts of Iron spans from 1936 to 1948, so you can choose to prepare for the inevitable war first. The creators have taken historical accuracy seriously, thanks to which you witness many events that really took place, although much still depends on your actions. The third instalment of the franchise features a huge world map, divided into around ten thousand provinces. In Hearts of Iron III, you can meticulously manage economic and military factors, although the less experienced players may just limit themselves to issuing general commands. It's the first title in the series to feature 3D graphics and customizable resolution options.

The player assumes the role of Alias - an explosives expert belonging to a team of six super nanosoldiers. The protagonist joins a rebellion against Victor Sopot's totalitarian regime. In terms of mechanics, Red Faction II expands the patterns introduced in the first installment. The improved Geo-Mod engine responsible for environmental destruction is a characteristic feature of the game. What returns as well, is the opportunity to steer various vehicles, such as tanks, aircraft or submarines. When juxtaposed with the original Red Faction, the sequel brings a slightly less linear plot and the ending is dependent on the player's decisions. Apart from that, both the visuals and AI of the enemies were improved.
