The game is inspired by classics such as StarCraft, X-COM, or Warhammer 40,000, and was developed by independent Croatian studio Ironward. The action of the game takes place in the distant future, where Earth's population was decimated as a result of a deadly virus, and Mars became a home for the remnants of humanity.

Due to uncertainties related to the rights to the Fallout brand and the publisher's financial problems, work on the game was halted.

As the title suggests, this add-on allows the players to participate in the Battle of Helm’s Deep – the largest battle ever featured in The Lord of The Rings Online. This, however, is not the only novelty introduced by this expansion – the players can now visit western parts of Rohan including the Dunharrow Stronghold and the city of Edoras, where they have to aid King Theoden in returning to power.
