The game’s sandbox mechanics and its open-world structure give much freedom of gameplay, whose biggest challenges are survival and making difficult moral choices. The game features a compelling narrative written by Marianne Krawczyk, the author of scripts for such titles as God of War and L.A. Noire. The game’s unique character is emphasized by its unusual graphics, designed by Hokyo Lima (known for League of Legends).

Besides fighting the undead, gameplay focuses on such activities as rescuing other characters, collecting food, searching for weapons and ammunition and building shelters. The third installment in a series of original action games focusing on spectacular encounters with hordes of murderous zombies. The game was created by the fathers of the franchise - Capcom, though the player assumes the role of a completely new character here - Nick Ramos. As usual, Dead Rising 3 is set in an open environment, in which the protagonist completes a series of different tasks, eliminating entire crowds of zombies along the way. Sophisticated weapons made of various objects found and created on the fly are the hallmark of the series. Both exploration and elimination of enemies are also facilitated by use of different vehicles. In terms of visuals, the third installment presents a more serious art style, though the screen is still dominated by hordes of enemies and gallons of blood. What's important is that the maximum number of enemies that can be displayed on the screen at the same time is now three times larger than before. The graphics fully employ the potential of modern PC hardware and 8th-gen consoles.

During a day, the protagonist must find or construct items, which will help him fend off evil entities at night. The gameplay is relatively difficult, combining features of an action game, adventure game, and a cRPG. Simple, two-dimensional visuals are dominated by semidarkness and dark shapes, and the terrifying atmosphere is further bolstered with disturbing audio.

A realistic survival game created by a debuting Australian studio Beam Team Games. The player assumes the role of a plane crash survivor who struggles to remain alive on one of the uninhabited islands of the Pacific. Unlike most games of this genre, this production is focused not only on the exploration of the island itself, but it also encompasses the ocean floor around it. Both areas are randomly generated before each game. The life of our hero can be endangered by various threats: hunger, thirst, heat during the day, or a sudden drop in temperature at night. An encounter with a shark or sailing into the open sea during a storm may also prove deadly. Additionally, the game features an intuitive crafting system, which allows the player to create simple tools as well as more advanced structures such as a raft or a makeshift hut. High quality graphic design, featuring dynamic weather and a night-and-day cycle, stands out in comparison to other games of this popular genre.

The game’s world is inspired by typical American landscapes, such as national parks, the Mississippi Delta, or Bayou. In order to survive, you have to acquire food and look out for the protagonist’s health. If she suffers injuries, you have to treat her with bandages and herbs; spending some time in a shelter, where the character can rest and regain strength, would also be a good idea. Gameplay is supplemented with a crafting system, allowing you to combine the items you find into useful tools. The game features atmospheric, cartoonish graphics, and soundtrack composed by highly regarded alternative musician Chuck Regan.

A hybrid of a platform and a survival game. The title was developed by two people – Joar Lisberg Jakobsson was the lead programmer and the author of the idea of the game while the music was composed by James Primate. The game takes place in a hostile post-industrial realm filled with complicated machinery. The environment is constantly plagued by downpours and the animals that live in it are forced to hide from the rain in a hibernated state. The main protagonist is Slugcat – a creature that is similar to a cat. It is tasked with gathering enough food to survive the forced resting time. What’s interesting, the ecosystem is filled both with creatures smaller than Slugcat and ones that are much larger. This makes the protagonist the hunter and the prey at the same time. The gameplay concentrates on visiting atmospheric locations, avoiding confrontation with larger predators and avoiding traps and other dangers. Luckily, the unusual protagonist isn’t completely defenseless – he can use a spear that allows him to kill or stun other creatures. Rain World can be played alone or in cooperation mode. Low-key colors and simple graphics fit the grim atmosphere of the game.

The title was created by an independent studio Compulsion Games known for creating Contrast, a title that used similar style. In the game, the player travels to a fictional town in which, due to indoctrination and a wonderful drug, the citizens are constantly happy and all traits of dissatisfaction are immediately eliminated. The protagonist is one of the defiant citizens who are resistant to the system. In order to survive in the surrounding world, he must observe it thoroughly and understand its rules. The action is shown from first-person perspective and the gameplay is focused on exploration, and gathering various items and using them. While doing it, players must behave according to the social norms so that other citizens don’t become suspicious. The world of the game was characteristically exaggerated, but the game tells about many very important topics.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey takes the players through events that shaped mankind, such as creation of the first tools, agricultural revolution, the fall of the Roman empire, Wright brothers' first powered flight, landing on the Moon, or discovery of the human DNA. A standalone expansion for the 2013’s well-received survival sandbox game, Don’t Starve. The main goal of the add-on is to transfer the core premise of the original title into cooperative multiplayer gameplay. In the game, we still explore the world, gather food, build a shelter, fight various enemies, and take care of the protagonist’s physical and mental health. The primary novelty is the possibility of interacting with other players who can turn out to be either precious friends or deadly foes. Don’t Starve Together allows us to play both with our friends and with complete strangers. Another appeal of the expansion is the fact that it comes with the previously released DLC, Reign of Giants, which expands the original title with new bioms, enemies, and a full year cycle. The production can be obtained free of charge by all owners of the vanilla game.
