Rune: Ragnarok is an action RPG developed by Human Head, which is a sequel to the cult classic game called Rune, released in 2000. Rune: Ragnarok takes you to a fantasy realm based on the Nordic mythology. The game’s story starts seven years after the eponymous Ragnarok has begun. Despite the pervasive death and destruction, there is no end to the conflict. That’s why the remaining humans (including the protagonist) decide to take the initiative and slay all gods in order to put a stop to the apocalypse. While playing you explore a large open world, assault enemy settlements, sail the seas, complete missions, craft items, and develop your hero’s skills. The game’s heart is the expansive combat system, characterized by its focus on action and explicit brutality. An important role is also played by deities. The player can choose to worship one of them, which grants them access to a variety of special powers.

A first-person action game that follows the convention of survival horror. Bigfoot is a debut project of an independent Ukrainian developer, CyberLight studio. As the name suggests, the game focuses on the legendary humanoid creature living deep inside the Rocky Mountains. After a group of tourists goes missing in one of the nearby national parks in, as the police say, the result of an accident, the main protagonist, accompanied by his friends, decides to go to the site and investigate the case more closely. The players are offered a vast open world, in which they can explore lakes, swamps, and creepy caves. The gameplay builds on hunting down the titular adversary. The main protagonists establish their base in an RV, and during their hunt, they use a shotgun, a wide range of traps, and some other pieces of gear. The player can confront the Sasquatch (as Native Americans call it) alone, or in a cooperative mode allowing up to three players to join their forces for the hunt.

The Black Death is a survival simulator in which you have to stay alive during the epidemic outbreak called “The Black Death.” Apart from surviving the plague, the player also needs to face problems usual for the people of that time and place. Gameplay takes place in an open world inspired by Western Europe’s landscapes and its area amounts to 8,000 sq m. At the beginning, you choose one of the eight available professions (a farmer, a knight, etc.), which determines the nature of gameplay. Apart from completing quests, you need to satisfy the basic needs of your avatar and avoid contact with the infected. In the course of the game many times you will fight with the use of an extensive and difficult combat system that enables to land precise strikes and parry attacks.

A spin-off to the series of action games with RPG elements, originally developed by Polish studio Techland. As the owner of the title, Deep Silver chose the Swedish Fatshark studio as the developer for the spin-off. They are known for multiplayer-oriented games such as War of the Roses and War of the Viking. As a result, the players received a third-person perspective action-adventure game, the story of which takes place in between the first and the second part of the series and connects them together. The main hero – Cliff Calo – decides to trace the origins of the zombie virus outbreak and document them. Together with his friends, Cliff sets out on an expedition that soon turns out to be nothing more than a constant fight for survival, as any contact with the living dead ends up in death. You can use a wide arsenal of inventive weapons, but the gameplay emphasizes stealth elements and silent elimination of the enemies. The game features distinctive colorful graphics that utilize cel-shading technology.

Unturned is a sandbox MMO game that combines the mechanics of the popular DayZ mod with the visual style of Minecraft. The game is distributed for free and was created by a sixteen year old teenager – Nelson Sexton. The game takes place in an open world overrun by a zombie epidemic and forces the player into a fight for survival in this dangerous environment. Just like other, similar games, the main part of the gameplay is resource-gathering-oriented exploration. With the resources, and using the crafting system, player can create various useful tools, build vehicles that make moving easier, and construct buildings providing shelter. During the game, player must be wary of his hunger and thirst levels as well as infections. Depending on the server type, online game can focus on rivalry or cooperation between players. In both modes the players have access to large number of weapons and equipment.

A refreshed version of the classic action adventure game that was released in 2005. The new version was prepared by the creators of the original title, Icepick Lodge, as a side project to a complete remake of the game. The plot of Pathologic Classic HD is same as in the original game and it focuses on a mysterious virus that spreads across a small city, causing many casualties. When the authorities decide to seek out help from outside, three different characters arrive in the city and try to solve the mystery during the next twelve days. The game is story-driven and focuses on adventure aspects. What makes it different from other games is the fact that two non-playable characters are acting parallel to achieve the same objective as the player. All three characters are frequently getting in each other’s way. In contrast to the original game, the new version features refreshed, high-resolution graphics. The developers have also fixed many of the bugs of the original game and recorded a new version of dubbed dialogue sequences.

A post-apocalyptic survival strategy game with RPG elements, created by Polish developer Robot Gentleman Studios. You play as the head of a typical American family, who has to provide for his loved ones in the face of an incoming nuclear war. The game starts 60 seconds before the first explosion, giving you one minute to get to a shelter while grabbing the most essential provisions on the way. In the next phase you have to survive for as long as you can using only the resources you've managed to gather, which often force you to make very tough decisions. Sometimes, you have to decide whose daily rations should be reduced, sometimes how to deal with problems at hand, such as a cockroach infestation. Despite its seemingly grim theme, the game features a rather light-hearted atmosphere, evident e.g. in its comic-like graphics.

A science-fiction action-adventure game featuring survival elements. It is the first major project of KeokeN – an independent Dutch developer. The player is taken to the year 2069, when humanity has to face total depletion of natural resources. Established by governments of world powers, the Worldwide Space Agency decides to resume the exploration of the Moon's surface and the player is cast in the role of an astronaut sent there among others. The protagonist discovers the existence of a huge conspiracy, which sheds new light on the Earth's situation. For the most part, the player explores the virtual environment and solves puzzles. However, the player is not entirely on their own here, for a robot accompanies the protagonist, which is helpful in said puzzle solving. The protagonist has a universal tool at their disposal and the player modifies its purpose gradually alongside progression. Additionally, survival elements were interwoven into the gameplay. For instance, the player encounters locations which lack oxygen and so one is required to make the best possible use of what air they have left.

The story is set in the northern regions of the Quebec province, in the 1970s. The game tells the story of a conflict between the owner of the most profitable copper mine in the region - a rich man called W. Hamilton, and the native local community accusing him of devastating sacred sites in search for more profit. The player is put in the shoes of a detective hired by Hamilton after his chalet in the mountains has been devastated. After his arrival, the protagonist discovers that his employer as well as the entire local community went missing. The gameplay focuses on exploration, finding clues and solving puzzles. A survival sandbox game, in which the player assumes the role of an astronaut, who is trying to stay alive on a desolate planet. Developed by Craneballs, Planet Nomads offers the player with a procedurally-generated open world. One has to tend to his character’s basic needs - this means satisfying both hunger and thirst, as well as taking care of his general health condition. The main protagonist can fall ill, get a concussion, and break a limb, so one has to take notice of the threats posed by the environment, in the form of the planet’s fauna and flora. Additionally, one has to avoid poisonous gases, extreme temperatures, and radioactive radiation. In comparison to other games from the survival genre, Planet Nomads stands out in terms of its gameplay mechanics, allowing the players to erect structures using over a hundred different segments; this is also how one can create a vehicle to explore the planet more easily, and a spaceship to set off to a space voyage. All of this, however, requires resources - in order to find them, a player has to venture beyond the safe areas and scavenge the planet’s recesses that are much more dangerous. As the game progresses, one gains access to certain gear improvements - the multi-tool used for gathering resources, the protective space suit, and the jetpack. The game offers an additional treat in the form of the ability to destroy elements of the environment, composed of voxels. Planet Nomads offers support for mods.
