Today, Sony released lists of the most downloaded games on the PlayStation 4 and 5 in 2021, showing that the most popular games were competitive-oriented productions - including sports and shooters - as well as the new Spider-Man.
Sony decided to add one more to the numerous lists that traditionally appear at the the end of an old or at the beginning of a new year. The Japanese giant published lists of the games that were downloaded most often on PlayStation 4 and 5 in the last twelve months. They take into account the division into two regions - the United States / Canada and Europe. The general conclusion, however, is the following: the most popular were sports games (mainly FIF 22 and NBA 2K22), shooters like Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042, as well as Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The full top 20 lists for both consoles can be found below.

What is striking is the rather average popularity of other Sony exclusive titles - both platform-wide and console-specific. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart took sixth place in the United States / Canada, but was only fourteenth in Europe. The opposite trend can be seen in the case of the warmly received Kenya: Bridge of Spirits - sixth place on the Old Continent, but twentieth overseas. Whereas Returnal and Deathloop were barely included in the list.
The ranking of the most downloaded free-to-play games turned out to be much more uniform. Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League reign supreme. Apex Legends, Genshin Impact and Destiny 2 were also popular in both regions taken into account (the full list can be found below). When it comes to productions developed for virtual reality, Beat Saber, Job Simulator and Polish SUPERHOT VR were leading the way.
