Sekiro Shadows Die Twice: How to heal?

Making sure the protagonist is in good health is a vital issue in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This section of the guide combines active and passive methods of health regeneration, as well as ways to increase the rate of life regeneration.

Resting at any Sculptor's Idol

This is the most obvious method of regenerating health. Sculptor's Idols are counterparts of the Dark Souls' bonfires. You can return to them an unlimited number of times and rest at those locations for free.

Remember, however, that resting also respawns defeated enemies (except bosses). When revisiting old locations, you can avoid resurrected enemies or fight them again (e.g. in order to get more XP and loot).

Healing Gourd

This is another traditional way to regenerate the life belt. The Healing Gourd must be placed in one of the slots for quick access items.

By default, the hero can use the Gourd only once, but you can increase this limit by giving Emma the Gourd Seeds found in the game world - more information about this can be found in the section entitled Gourd Seeds. After using all the Gourd shots, you can replenish them by resting at any of the Sculptor's Idols.

Pellet

They're one of many available single-use items. Pellets must be installed in one of the slots for quick access items.

Pellets restore fewer health points than the Healing Gourd. They are also not reusable, i.e. they're not replenished after resting. New pellets can be found or purchased from merchants.

Divine Grass

This is a unique healing item. You must have it installed in one of the slots for quick access items. Divine grass fully restores health and removes all active debuffs. You should hold onto this item and save it for the toughest fights.

The Divine Grass can be purchased from the Pot Noble Harunaga merchant, who hides in a barrel on the coast in the Hirata Estate. In exchange for the Divine Grass, the merchant demands 1 Treasure Carp Scale - an item that can be obtained from killing big fishes. Breath of Fire: Light passive ability

This is one of the skills of the Shinobi Arts tree, and you can unlock it by spending skill points.

This skill is automated. It allows you to return some of the lost health points every time you make a lethal blow to an enemy. If the hero is wounded, it is worth looking for weaker opponents, who can be very easily killed by lethal blows. This will allow you to quickly recover lost health points.

Emma's Medicine passive skills

These are two passive abilities from the Prosthesis Arts tree and can be unlocked with skill points.

The operation of both skills is automated. They improve the efficiency of medicinal items (primarily the Healing Gourds and Pellets), i.e. guarantee the restoration of more health points after using a medicine.

Shinobi Medicine passive skills

These skills are identical to the Emma Method described above, and, therefore, increase the effectiveness of healing items.

The skills are not bought. You will unlock new ranks after dying enough times during boss fights. We got Rank 1 after defeating the Chained Ogre in Ashina Outskirts. We got Rank 2 after beating the bull in Ashina Castle. This ability's purpose is just a slight decrease in the level of complexity due to the increase in the efficiency of medicines.

Get rid of debuffs

The methods of healing described above mainly concern replenishing health points. If the hero additionally has some sort of debuff applied, it is necessary to consume individual potions. The most important of these are:

1. Red Gourd - Use it if the hero is set on fire.
2. Antidote Powder and Contact Medicine - Use them if the hero has been poisoned.

These items can be found in the game world as loot or purchased from selected traders.

Rice

This new method of healing becomes available later in the game. Sekiro must reach Senpou Temple, enter an illusion, catch Folding Screen Monkeys, and meet with Child of Rejuvenation in the Inner Sanctum. All of these steps are part of the main storyline.

The Child of Rejuvenation gives you Rice which similarly to Pellets - this item regenerates your health gradually. You can't replenish your Rice supplies by Resting. This item can't be found during exploration, either. What you can do is to go back to the Child of Rejuvenation to get more Rice.
