The 12th expansion for 2012’s grand strategy game by Paradox Interactive, Crusader Kings II. In The Reaper’s Due, the developers focused on historical epidemics such as the Black Death which was the plague that gathered a bloody harvest in 13th century Europe. Therefore, the add-on introduces several new mechanics. The most important ones are obviously diseases that spread throughout the map of the continent. They have a negative influence on, among other things, our army’s numbers as well as finances. The latter can be replenished by forcing large dividends on prosperous provinces that pay us in gold and workforce. We can protect our people from diseases, though, thanks to hospitals and doctors who have access to the latest medical knowledge but their presence not always can prevent an epidemic. Apart from the aforementioned novelties, the gameplay is traditionally enriched by new event chains.

An arcade real-time strategy game by Pocketwatch Games, featuring old-school pixel art visuals. The action of Tooth and Tail takes place during an animal revolution, modeled to the conflicts of the turn of 19th and 20th century, where several factions comprised of different animal species fight to the death. Gameplay mechanics resemble classic RTS productions—their foundations lay in resource gathering, base building, and tactical combat. In the game, however, we can not issue direct orders to individual units. Instead, we assume control of their commander, who moves throughout the battlefield with a banner in his hand. His task is to designate places in which buildings will be built and show his subordinates their targets. Since we control just one character, the controls of Tooth and Tail resemble a typical action game rather than strategy, and most processes were adequately automated so that the player can focus on pure fun.

Transporting some items abroad, we have to take border controls into account, which often forces us to smuggle. Apart from the economic aspect, Jalopy offers an extensive simulation mechanics that involve maintaining our car (refueling, repairing, and not overloading it) but also the driver, who has to eat, drink, and sleep, among other things. Marvel Future Fight is an arcade RPG and a dungeon crawler mix developed by Netmarble. The game begins with Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, sending the Marvel heroes a message from the future to warn them about the impending global cataclysm, caused by the collision of multiple alternative realities. Our job is to gather a party and stop the apocalypse. Marvel Future Fight offers a couple hundred missions where we have to fight hordes of enemies. We can play as superheroes (like Iron Man, Spider-Man or Hulk) or supervillains. Each of the available characters has its own unique skills and abilities, which we can level up during our adventures. Additionally, the game offers a multiplayer mode where we can face teams created by other players. Considering the game's plot, a battle between two versions of the same hero is well in the realm of possibility.

Yooka-Laylee is a 3D platformer developed by Playtonic Games, a studio created by the experienced developers who played a crucial role in the development of Rare's biggest games. The game's title is a blend of the protagonists names. Yooka, the first of them, is a chameleon who has an unusually long tongue, which can be used to grab onto various surfaces and cover large distances. The other one, Laylee, is a bat who can use sonic attacks. Laylee can also carry Yooka and fly with her friend for a short distance. During our adventures, we explore vast, three-dimensional locations. We need to use our protagonists unique abilities to travel around them. There are numerous challenges awaiting the players: from typical platform sequences, through logical puzzles and item collecting, to boss fights. There are also many hidden minigames in Yooka-Laylee’s world.

A classic top-down shooter, referring to the legends of the Desert Strike series genre. In the game we play the members of the rebel organisation Arcturus, who are trying to put an end to the world dominance of the powerful energy corporation Prometheus. The gameplay allows full freedom of movement and unlimited exploration of maps and comes down to the elimination of hostile enemies (in the air and on the ground) and the fight against demanding bosses.

Strategy, Multiplayer, PBeM, Singleplayer, Turn-based, American Civil War, 19th Century.

A turn-based strategy game developed by Western Civilization Software. As the title suggests, the game focuses on the American Civil War, during which brothers often had to turn against each other when the Confederate States declared war upon the northern states, devastating the United States of America. The action of this game is set at the initial stages of the American Civil War, allowing players to participate in the events such as the First Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of Wilson's Creek (1861), the Battle of Mill Springs and the Battle of Williamsburg (1862). Apart from the large campaigns, the game delivers a number of smaller scenarios, including the hypothetical ones presenting an alternative course of events. Battles take place on huge maps covering the area of 50 square miles, divided into 75-yard hexagons. A single turn corresponds to 24 hours in real time. Brother against Brother: The Drawing of the Sword builds on realism – regiments have their unique skills that made them famous during the Civil War. Apart from the units’ stats and player’s tactical decisions, the battle is affected by the amount of supplies, changing weather conditions, and the smoke suspended over the battlefield.

Adventure, 2D, Fantasy, Singleplayer, Visual Novel.

A visual novel/adventure game taking place in a fantasy universe. An Octave Higher takes us to Overture, the capital city of a mighty empire which has quickly grown in stature thanks to the employment of magic. The will to research this phenomenon led to the introduction of a new social system that divides people based on their magical abilities. As the system destroys the class balance, the country, as well as Overture, is in imminent threat of a nation-wide uprising. The plot revolves around three characters – a factory worker named Elise, Franz – a scholar, and Frederic, a member of one of the noble families. Each of the heroes stems from a different background, but a matter of an inconspicuous piano will connect their fates, creating a friendship of people whose adventures will shape the outcome of the inevitable rebellion. When it comes to gameplay, the game is a typical visual novel – the player follows the plot and decides upon the course of action during various situations that may or may not shape the outcome of the story.

Produced by Ukrainian studio Creoteam, a soccer game that combines elements of a virtual team manager with turn-based strategy. In the beginning of the game, you create your own club, and help it win the championship through a series of victories. Matches are played out in turn-based system, in which you give commands to your players, a formula quite unusual for this genre. In each turn you can execute up to 3 actions, and every action takes a number of movement points. Despite its innovativeness, Football Tactics features typical management options as well, requiring you to take care of the club’s budget, personnel, and infrastructure, as well as player recruitment and training. As Football Tactics is an unlicensed product, it features only fictional clubs and players.

Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse is a survival action-adventure game developed by Steamroller. We play as Lathe, a wooden boy accompanied by a stone giant named Roguard. Our heroes' job is to fend off the invasion of wooden zombies and make sure that the curse responsible for their appearance will not spread out on the entire land of Knottington. Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse is a plot-focused game. By day, we can explore the game's vast world, gather resources and do complex quests to move forward with the plot. We can do all of that because Roguard watches over us by day. By night, he sleeps like a (literal) rock. Lathe has nothing left to do but face the hordes of monsters and fight for survival with self-made guns. We also have to guard our sleeping friend. We have to remember about defensive structures and traps. If properly placed, they can be a real advantage against the monsters.

This title is Warner Bros'. response to the growing popularity of franchises like Skylanders or Disney Infinity. This is the first game in the series that uses real LEGO minifigures, which are transferred into virtual word through a special port. When it comes to gameplay mechanics, the game is not much different from other titles in the series, still being a third-person action-adventure game. You play as various LEGO characters who have to stop evil Lord Vortech from annihilating humanity. The game is available for purchase in several editions devoted to different franchises. Starter pack includes figurines of Gandalf, Wyldstyle, Batman, and Batmobile. A tactical RPG developed by the independent studio Witching Hour. The player is taken to a fantasy world where magic exists only in one city, Ombre. However, using it is dependent on possessing special masks, which is the direct reason for never-ending intrigues and political disputes. The main protagonist is inspector Cicero Gavara who is involved in a case of a mysterious disappearance. Masquerada: Songs and Shadows is based on classical pillars of the genre: exploration, performing various quests, and fighting encountered enemies. The gameplay is presented from an isometric camera. Combat can take place in two modes: a dynamic one that puts emphasis on action or a tactical one which lets us queue orders. The key to success is to skillfully use the abilities of the protagonist and his companions as well as to put the masks to good use by casting various spells. The title is characterized by an original visual style that combines Japanese and French comic style with inspirations drawn from Venetian atmosphere and its carnivals.

However, we can pick up various upgrades between the bouts, and unlock special items that alter the gameplay.
