The plot of the game shows the struggle for the city of Caen taking place between 26 June and 19 July 1944. The creators took care of faithful representation of units and topography of the area and reconstruction of the authentic course of battles.

However, while previously the protagonist was trying to understand the eerie reality he'd found himself in and make some sense out of it, this time—again with the help of Thomas Zane—Wake engages in the final fight against the nightmare that's plaguing him. In order to take control of his own life and stay sane, he visits familiar (and unfamiliar at the same time) places, resisting the temptation to succumb to the darkness that's still haunting his mind. When it comes to mechanics, the DLC is nothing new, although it's atmosphere is even darker and more nightmarish, underscoring how far removed from reality Wake is and how dangerous the things lurking inside him are.
