Players take on the role of a Tokyo high school student, who is one of the 13 rulers of demons who can oppose the invasion of Japan by a foreign race. The title is a mixture of RPG and strategy elements and is maintained in the anime style.

Higurashi When They Cry is a Japanese adventure in the visual novel category. The production is kept in a horror atmosphere and tells the story of a small village of Hinamizawa, which in June 1983 became the scene of a series of brutal murders. The game boils down primarily to passive tracking of the plot presented in text form enriched with simple pictures.

By solving subsequent riddles and making moral choices, the protagonist tries to discover the truth about other members of the group in which he found himself, and to explain the motives behind the mysterious Zero.
