March 28, 2017

Arcade, Puzzle Elements, Fantasy, 3D Platformers, Singleplayer, TPP, Xbox Play Anywhere.

An action platform game with logical puzzles. It was developed by British studio Sumo Digital. The title is based on a prototype created by Seba Liese during a Game Jam. Snake pass tells a story about the adventures of a snake and his friend, a hummingbird. Together they must find keys to the magical gates that provide magical power to the Harmony Foothills. They are doing it in order to defeat a mysterious intruder who threatens the lives of the inhabitants of the realm. The game takes place in a three-dimensional environment and the player takes control of the aforementioned snake. The protagonist’s movement was recreated in a pretty realistic way. It means that, for example, he cannot jump, but instead he crawls along the ground, wraps around objects and swims. All of these actions must be used in order to defeat various obstacles and to find well hidden collectibles. In some situations the friendly hummingbird helps the snake by catching him by his tail and transporting to seemingly unavailable places.

Interestingly enough, the game contains a number of features seen in rougelike games: randomly generated levels and permanent death which forces us to begin a new playthrough every time our vessel is destroyed. Developed by Taito, a roguelike RPG in the form of a dungeon crawler. The player is taken to Ardéme - a kingdom set in a fantasy world, whose inhabitants used to enjoy an existence of happiness and well-being, ensured by Holy Water enchanted in a sacred cup. The idyllic period ended when Grand Sorcerer Ambrosius, a ruler's trustee, got bitten by a vampire and decided to flee with the sacred cup. Deprived of divine power, the kingdom soon fell victim to corruption coming out of the muddy labyrinths in dungeons. As a result, the prince invited adventurers from all over the land and presented them with the task of finding the cup. The gameplay formula does not go beyond the standards of other games in the genre, and the experience involves exploring randomly generated dungeons, avoiding traps, and facing more and more powerful enemies. Exploration and completing different quests given by the inhabitants of an extensive world remain the core of the experience. Fighting various enemies is another important part of the game. Although one can experience what this world has to offer solo, the adventure gets deeper when the player is accompanied by others. Apart from an additional place to explore and a new storyline, the add-on introduces a new character class, that is, the Warden. Finding the so-called Chosen One turns out to be the best solution, for this person is the only one capable of defeating the monster once and for all. In terms of the visuals, the game resembles the high standards Artifex Mundi had achieved with their previous titles. The mechanics also include patterns typical for HOPA games. Thus the player explores particular locations and gathers items required to solve the puzzles they stumble on. The experience is diversified with numerous, arcade-logic games and scenes featuring hidden objects.

A prequel to the first Framed, an indie puccle game developed by Australian studio Loveshack Entertainment. The game once again relies on the setting of hardboiled novels, only this time set in Asia, where the protagonist has been framed for a crime he did not commit. He has no choice, but to clear his name before he gets caught by real criminals or the police. Framed 2 employs comics panel-based narrative, constructed in a way that will allow the protagonist to get out of trouble. Finding the correct solution might often be a true challenge – before we get it, we will see a few other versions of the story, each ending tragically for our hero. All of this is presented with interesting, comic book-like visuals inspired by the noir convention.

We take control of group of survivors trying to not only survive for a few more days, but also to discover the truth behind the mysterious illness. Zombie Anarchy is based on two pillars. The first one is managing our base, which acts as both shelter and storage for necessary resources. It will be subjected to attacks from undead hordes, so we must invest in defense systems, such as turrets and flamethrowers. A two-dimensional platformer game set in an alternative version of feudal Japan. Developed by RECOtechnology (a Spanish team), the game brings a continuation to a third-person action-adventure title known as Yasai Ninja. Kyurinaga's Revenge follows the subsequent adventures of the two vegetable-like characters - an onion-samurai Kaoru Tamanegi and a street fighter called Broccoli Joe. They both set out for a dangerous adventure aiming to face an evil shogun and his allies. Kyurinaga's Revenge is a typical platformer game requiring the player to explore two-dimensional levels, avoid traps and fight various enemies. The playable characters have different abilities and equipment and the key to success lies in using their individual advantages adequately. Kyurinaga's Revenge was designed specifically for split-screen co-op mode, though playing solo is also an option (in which case the player switches between the characters). The creators decided on a cartoonish art style, offering a side-view gameplay with three-dimensional graphics.

An unusual turn-based horror strategy game developed by Kitfox Games. The action of The Shrouded Isle takes place in a remote town on an island that is cut off from the world. We assume the role of its mayor, and our task is to ensure the local population’s prosperity. The problem is that the town was built upon the resting place of some ancient gods’ that, if unsatisfied, can awaken and devour everything in their way. The primary responsibilities of the player are similar to those from classical economy simulation games. While playing, we have to balance the four essential town development factors. The gameplay is turn-based, though, corresponding to subsequent seasons. In each of them, we have to assign tasks to the townsfolk and to sacrifice one town resident in order to postpone the awakening of the gods. The game features unusual stylized 2D graphics that resort mainly to shades of yellow and green.
