The ninth installment in a legendary racing game franchise created by Electronic Arts company. After two Underground games, featuring illegal night street races, the franchise went back to its roots, combining ideas from the two most recent titles with classic elements. The player’s goal is to climb to the top of a black list of the most wanted drivers. Again you get to explore a huge virtual city, taking on different racing challenges. These include circuit, sprint, drag, elimination, time trial, speed challenge, and police pursuit. After completing enough of these you can challenge subsequent drivers from the black list. Apart from elements typical for the series, such as licensed cars and diverse soundtrack, the game features complex car customization, both in terms of appearance and performance.

The seventh installment in the controversial Grand Theft Auto series – one of the most popular game franchises in history that brought Rockstar Games company international fame. The series has been letting the player start as a petty criminal and work his way to the top of the criminal underground. This next part of the series is the biggest one so far, featuring world – the State of San Andreas – almost three times larger than Vice City. Among many innovations, there are several thing worthy of mention: improved AI of civilians, option to recruit gang members, increased number of interactive buildings, hunger factor, swimming, and new means of transportation (e.g. bicycles). On top of that, there game features numerous extra activities, highlighting the sandbox character of gameplay. The game features the atmosphere of the 1990s, apparent in both the graphics and the soundtrack available via the numerous in-game radio stations.

The fourth major installment of the cult series of survival horrors created by Capcom. In the game the player assumes the role of ex-cop Leon S. Kennedy, a character well known from the second entry in the franchise. As a special agent responsible for protecting the presidential family, he goes to Europe in order to find the missing daughter of the US president. The trail leads to a small village in Spain. The village is controlled by a mysterious sect and the citizens are infected with a virus which causes mutations. During the game one will face hordes of zombies as well as more demanding bosses, such as giant monsters or the powerful leader of the sect, Osmund Saddler. Resident Evil 4 retains the dark feel of the previous installments and the game contains puzzles, but gameplay mechanics were greatly changed and the new engine allowed the developers to create faster and more dynamic action sequences. The game also contains many quick-time events.

The player is put in the shoes of a soldier participating in a series of dangerous military operations, with various kinds of weaponry and vehicles (above all, the M1 Abrams tank and the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter) at their disposal. The game stands out with its extensive multiplayer mode, which can be enjoyed via local area network or online. Also, Battlefield 2 offers high-quality visuals generated by the Refractor 2 engine.

A sequel to the bestselling first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward in 2003. The action of the game once again takes place during the World War II, offering three campaigns spanning across 1941-45. During the game the player switches between an American paratrooper dropped in Western Europe, a British commando fighting in Northern Africa and France, and between a Russian infantryman deployed on the eastern front (including Stalingrad). Similarly as in the original game, the developers managed to successfully recreate the atmosphere of historical battles – in terms of graphics as well as sounds. In addition to the large arsenal of actual weapons from World War II, the player can also use vehicles (for example tanks). In comparison to its predecessor, Call of Duty II is less linear, features improved AI, and the player no longer has to use first aid kits (instead, the health regenerates automatically). Graphics were greatly improved as well.

Compared to the Xbox original, Fable: The Lost Chapters introduces numerous new elements to the gameplay – the most important one is the extended story line, including an additional chapter taking place after the game's finale. Moreover, the game offers new missions and locations as well as previously unavailable items and spells.

Featuring paranormal mystery/thriller esthetics, a third-person action-adventure game by Quantic Dream studio. The plot of Indigo Prophecy – perhaps better known as Fahrenheit - is set in New York City in year 2009. The city is witness to a series of inexplicably violent acts of murder committed by seemingly ordinary, lawful citizens. The action is presented from the point of view of two separate characters. One of them is Lucas Kane who experiences the mysterious event first hand as he kills a complete stranger in a restaurant's restroom. Haunted by strange visions, he decides to find out what is really happening. The other character is Lieutenant Carla Valenti who, along with her life partner Sergeant Tyler Miles, investigates the case. In the course of the game we will visit various locations, speak to other characters, and fight. What is characteristic for Indigo Prophecy is the dark, shrouded in mystery plot and the opportunity to solve the puzzle while playing either as the hunter, or the hunted.

Before each operation, the player chooses the weapons and equipment that will serve the objectives best. The game features representations of many real-world weapons and tactical gadgets. When playing solo, the player can control the team members directly (one can switch between them) or give orders to the team from the base of operations. Apart from the single player experience, SWAT 4 offers three multiplayer modes, as well as the co-op campaign mode. Additionally, a special editor is featured, which allows the player to create their own missions and modify the existing ones.

It turns out that a space-time portal was opened as a result of an experiment, which led to a demon incursion that we have to repel. Compared to its predecessors from the past decade, Doom 3 offers not only fast-paced and incredibly bloody action but also quite extensive plot as well as a number of horror elements. The game also features high-quality graphics.

Our hero can explore the world both on foot and by riding horses, while the plot is conveyed through cinematic cut-scenes accompanying the story missions. During his journey, Colton encounters a wide range of NPCs, including the virtual versions of Wyatt Earp or Billy the Kid. When it comes to combat, the player takes part in spectacular shootouts using an extensive and fun-oriented arsenal, including revolvers, rifles, or even the Gatling Gun. The game is characteristic for its detailed, three-dimensional visuals.

Individual missions are of non-linear structure and you can reach your goal in several different ways, while completing optional objectives along the way. It is also noteworthy that the character can make use of new moves, attacks, and combat techniques, as well as new types of gadgets and weapons. Moreover, there is no shortage of multiplayer modes, starting with the online co-op mode.

In combat you can make use of an array of weapons as well as the aforementioned special abilities of the hero, spearheaded by bullet-time mechanics. The atmosphere of horror is created by the presence of Alma – a creepy mysterious girl responsible for paranormal events taking place around you. F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon makes use of advanced physics simulation and sports detailed graphics.

Silent Hunter III is the third installment in the World War II submarine simulator series. In comparison with the previous game, Ubisoft implemented many changes and improvement in Silent Hunter III, with modern 3D visuals that render the game in a rather realistic way. The game offers us four types of U-boots in ten different development versions. All interiors and onboard devices (we can use all of them) are rendered in 3D with highest attention to detail. Each member of our crew has their own individual model and a skill set on which we base their duties. Moreover, they gain experience as we play making them more useful and reliable. Silent Hunter III focuses on a campaign during which we climb up the military rank ladder. The game comes with a level editor, in addition to single player missions, that allows players to create their own levels. Developers also included a multiplayer mode for those who are interested.

The story of Liberty City Stories takes place a few years before the events shown in GTA3, on the streets of the same metropolis. During the game player becomes Tony Cipriani who after coming to the city is caught up in the dirt of corruption, mafia wars, and drug traffic. The objective of the game is to work for the Leone mafia family, increase its influences and build up Tony’s reputation in the criminal underworld. The gameplay of GTA: Liberty City Stories employs the well-received mechanics of the series and offers an open world filled with story missions and side activities alike. As always in the series, there are many vehicles (including motorcycles, motorboats, trains and ferries) and weapons to use. However, due to the limitations of the PSP console, some things were slightly simplified.

Compared to the previous installments in the series, the fourth entry has a different system of state management and features expanded diplomatic options; furthermore, an emphasis was put on such factors as culture and religion. The game also offers new units, nations (18 in total), buildings, inventions, and resources to be traded. Thanks to the 3D graphics engine, the map is full of animated objects and can be freely zoomed and rotated.

Apart from new powers and character classes, the game allows us to use two different weapon configurations and significantly expands our crafting and customization possibilities.

Aside from a single player mode, we are offered nine multiplayer variants, including Hot Spots, a mode that sees us defend strategic locations around the map, an improved multiplayer ranking known as Crown System, expanded match statistics, tournament mode, and finally the ability to record matches.

The story of Jade Empire takes place in a fantasy world based on Chinese mythology. In the game, we assume the role of one of six characters — all of them students of a famous martial arts teacher called Master Li — that have to hone their skills under the supervision of their mentor in order to become true legends. The story is non-linear and is distinguished by the mechanism of making constant choices between good and evil, therefore each interaction with the environment, each conversation with an NPC, and even a fight influences the further plot progress and our character’s development path. The game offers fully 3D graphics with third-person perspective view and a real-time combat system that requires combining individual strikes into complex sequences.

An official expansion pack for Doom 3. It was developed by Nerve Software, under the auspices of the base game's creators. Resurrection of Evil continues the storyline established in the core game, once again taking the player to the secret research facility on Mars. It turns out that defeating the powerful Cyberdemon and destroying the portal leading to hell were not the only problems of the Union Aerospace Corporation. Assuming the role of a nameless commando, the player's task is to eliminate the main culprit by the name of Malcolm Betruger, while slaying hordes of monstrous, demonic creatures along the way. Apart from the new storyline and a set of completely new levels, the expansion offers several new types of enemies, two weapons (the classic double-barreled shotgun and the futuristic Plasma Levitator), as well as a powerful artifact allowing the player to slow down the passage of time. Additionally, Resurrection of Evil features four new maps for the multiplayer mode. Up to eight players can meet in a multiplayer session.

An adventure game with strong action and platform game traits. It was developed by Double Fine Productions. The player assumes the role of a boy named Razputin, Raz in short. His dream is to become a member of the titular Psychonauts, a squad that is maintaining peace in the world. After sneaking up into one of the training camps, the protagonist discovers that the cadets are mysteriously disappearing. Raz, accompanied by his loyal friends, tries to discover this mystery. In Psychonauts the action is presented by using a third-person perspective. The game features more than a dozen of varied levels – most of them take place inside the human minds. During the game Raz must face various enemies, solve some more or less complicated traps, and avoid many dangers. Luckily, the boy is able to jump, swim, climb and sneak. He also has access to a set of paranormal skills, including telekinesis, levitation and invisibility. The game features nice looking graphics. Similarly to previous games of this developer, the title is filled with humor.

Another installment in one of the most popular series of fighting games developed for years by Bandai Namco Entertainment. In the fifth edition of King of Iron Fist Tournament a set of well-known fighters makes its appearance alongside three new ones (Asuka, Raven and Feng). Each character has their own motivation and goals, which constitutes the background for spectacular duels. Tekken 5 employs the well-known mechanics of its predecessors. As usual, the features four types of strikes (weak/strong punch, weak/strong kick) intuitively assigned to gamepad buttons. Combat takes place on three-dimensional arenas, where several interactive elements can be found, such as walls, columns or statues - these objects can be used in combat. Apart from the main tournament, Tekken 5 offers various game modes, such as versus, training or the adventure mode requiring the player to fight his way through waves of incoming enemies.

Each car was recreated in the smallest detail and can be significantly customized, both visually and mechanically. There were 100 racing tracks prepared especially for the game – some circuits are completely new, the rest are the updated tracks from the previous parts of the franchise. The backbone of the game is the simulation mode in which you gradually expand your garage, which can accommodate up to 1000 cars, with the money you earn. The game features a number of novelties, like the upgraded 1080i graphics and Photo Mode for making pictures during races and putting them in a special virtual album.

Another installment in a series of popular arcade fighting games developed by Team Ninja. It is the first installment to be released on Xbox 360. The game features three new playable characters, including Eliot (a Xing Yi Quan fighter - the style is based on rapid punches with open palms), Kokoro (a black-haired beauty using the style of Virtua Fighter's Akira) and a female wrestler wearing a mask. Apart from the new characters, the game offers various fighters from previous installments, such as Ryu Hayabusa or Kasumi. When it comes to the mechanics, it is an old-school fighting game - two opponents face each other in a fight which lasts until one of them is defeated. Counter-attack mechanics were improved in this installment in order to maintain a healthy balance between attack and defense. Fighting takes place on multi-leveled arenas filled with destructible objects and surprises, such as cars passing by, which can be used against the opponent. The game offers an extensive online component, featuring clans and international tournaments. Additionally, both the graphics and character physics were improved.

A third-person perspective fantasy action game created by Sony. It is one of the best-reviewed games in the history of PlayStation 2. Shadow of the Colossus follows a young traveler named Wander who explores a fantasy world on his horse. He is looking for a way to resurrect a girl burdened with a cursed fate. The only way to do it is by defeating the sixteen colossi that live in various regions of the world. The gameplay focuses solely on searching for the colossi and fighting them in epic, very challenging duels. Each of the enemies is many times larger than the main protagonist and must be defeated using a different strategy. The key to defeating them is to find their weak points and hit them with a sword enough times. Depending on enemy type, it might require the player to shoot arrows from a bow, climb on the giant body of the colossus or use the environments to his advantage.
