The new edition was developed by Double Fine Production, a studio led by Tim Schafer, the co-author of the original title. Syberia is the first chapter of the adventures of Kate Walker, an American lawyer hired by the company that produces automatons – mechanical toys. She is tasked with finishing the formalities related to taking over a factory located in a small city in Europe. The game begins when the protagonist arrives at the factory and learns that its owner, Anna Voralberg, is dead.

The player assumes the role of a prince who must stop the evil vizier Jaffar who intends to take over control of Persia by marrying a kidnapped princess. The protagonist must escape from a prison, save his beloved and defeat the usurper. The problem is, all these actions must be completed in less than an hour – otherwise the game ends in failure.

The players take on the role of the manager of an apartment complex. His job is to - under the guise of care - surveil and report any signs of opposition against the government.
