During a day, the protagonist must find or construct items, which will help him fend off evil entities at night. The gameplay is relatively difficult, combining features of an action game, adventure game, and a cRPG. Simple, two-dimensional visuals are dominated by semidarkness and dark shapes, and the terrifying atmosphere is further bolstered with disturbing audio.

The second installment in the best-selling survival horror action-adventure game series. Similarly to the original installment, the game has been developed by the Japanese studio Capcom. The action of Resident Evil 2 is set after the events shown in the first installment – nearly all citizens of Raccoon City have been infected by a mysterious virus, which changed them into bloodthirsty zombies. Once again, the player gets to control two characters – this time around it's Leon, a young police officer and Claire, a journalist. Their task is to save Raccoon City from complete destruction and stop the virus before it spreads all over the world. In Resident Evil 2, gameplay revolves around exploration and solving environmental puzzles – another important aspect of the game is fighting numerous foes using a wide range of weapons, limited by scarce amounts of ammunition. As befits an installment in the Resident Evil series, in order to survive and escape consecutive dangers, the player has to carefully manage the supplies they acquire on their adventure.

An adventure game created by an independent studio Variable State. The player assumes the role of a rookie FBI agent, who receives a task of investigating the case of a young boy’s disappearance. The plot is filled with supernatural elements, and science-fiction motifs. The plot of Virginia is completely linear, so the players can focus on experiencing the story. The action is seen from a first-person perspective, while the gameplay mechanics and the way of presenting subsequent events take full advantage of movie narration techniques – there are plenty of varied shots, visible camera work and a movie-like montage. What’s even more interesting, and practically unprecedented in other narrative-heavy games, all information is relayed through picture and sound – there are no dialogues. All conversations end when our character is nearby. The eerie atmosphere is also achieved through an original visual style, in which the simplified face models allow for suggestive relay of emotions, while the red-yellowish, autumn palette brings out the sleepy atmosphere of the area. Story wise and stylistically, the game was visibly inspired by Twin Peaks, a cult-classic TV series.

A third-person perspective action-adventure game developed by Ninja Theory. The game is a modern adaptation of one of the most famous classics of Chinese literature, the epic Journey to the West. The action of the game takes place in the 22nd century, after the third and fourth World War. During the gameplay, we assume the role of a lone man called Monkey, who gets imprisoned by the machines ruling the world. He manages to escape along with a young woman called Trip. After the escape, the duo is forced to rely only on themselves. Although in the beginning they cannot stand each other, over time they establish a specific relationship. In Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, we fight with pursuing machines and solve puzzles, while the protagonist duo complements each other. Monkey specializes mainly in fighting, while Trip is useful in situations requiring cleverness and intelligence. She can also hack computers and squeeze through narrow passages, which are impassable for her companion.

Hiveswap is an adventure game based on the popular webcomic Homestuck. It was financed though a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, gathering almost 2.5 million dollars. Initially, the game was to be developed by two studios: What Pumpkin, founded by Andrew Hussie, the creator of the original comic, and Odd Gentlemen. The latter, however, abandoned the production to work on the episodic reboot of the King's Quest series together with Activision. Hussie calls Hiveswap an adventure game parody. The production features hand-drawn, smoothly animated visuals, inspired by the comic. The gameplay mechanics are typical of the point-and-click adventure games, which means there is only a single player mode available. You mostly explore locations, solve easy puzzles, and discover the story step by step.

The players explore the in-game environment, solve puzzles requiring them to manipulate various objects, and search for clues related to the dark past of the haunted estate. Avoiding contact with ghosts dwelling in the estate is a significant element of gameplay, as the protagonist is incapable of fighting them. Visage utilizes the Unreal Engine 4, which is at the source of the game's high-quality visuals. Furthermore, the game supports VR goggles, though one does not require them in order to play it.

In contrast to his colleagues, he has no remarkable achievements and he was accepted to the school by winning a lottery. Soon after the school year starts, Makoto and a group of other students are trapped inside the school building and a digitally-controlled mascot informs them that, in order to escape from the trap, one of them must murder someone else in such way that it will be impossible to find out who is guilty. The game is divided into three separate phases. First the player speaks with selected students, builds relations and learns interesting facts. When the murder happens, the player is tasked with gathering evidence and testimonies. Finally the action moves to a court room where during a trial one must find out who the murderer is through a series of minigames.
