The game begins fifty years after the outbreak of a zombie epidemic, as a result of which the remainders of humanity had to find shelter in city-states ruled by the military. The tragedy, instead of leading to the unification of the dying human race, led to a war over the remaining resources.

The protagonists are wrongly accused of spreading a deadly virus that they tried to destroy. The aim of the game is to clear the accusations and expose the conspiracy hidden behind the whole story.

The story is set in an American town of St. Peanutsburg, where the protagonist moves in with his parents. It soon turns out that the place is inhabited by yokai, the friendly creatures from the previous installments, and the main character is the only one who can see them. The protagonist uses his unique ability to benefit the community, making friends among different yokai who can help him.

There are humans living there, along with other intelligent races and various monsters. The game features an open world which we explore by using numerous vehicles and ships. They require to be regularly checked and upgraded, but they make our journey much more safer and faster.

He is tasked with facing hordes of blood-thirsty zombies. Luckily, he isn’t helpless as he can use melee weapons and various guns (including pistols, machine guns and shotguns). The game also consists of survival features – the key to victory is to constantly control the supplies of ammunition and food.

Cunningham, Kane Hodder, Tom Savini, and Harry Manfredini, have had their hand in the production.

Mental's goal was, obviously, to take over the Earth. However, the story in this new installment seems to be a bit more mature.
