A continuation of Lara Croft’s adventure started in Tomb Raider III. In contrast to the expansions to the two previous installments of the popular series, Tomb Raider III: The Lost Artifact was sold separately and I was not free for owners of the base game. This time the archaeologist starts her adventure in the British Isles – first she visits Scotland, then Channel Tunnel, and finally she goes to Paris. The mini campaign in The Lost Artifact is composed of several levels and its plot revolves around the search for a mysterious treasure hidden in the catacombs under Willard castle in Scottish Loch Ness. Lara Croft believes that this is the legendary Hand of Rathmore, the fifth artifact necessary for the release of enigmatic powers laying dormant in an ancient meteorite. On her way, Lara meets e.g. prehistoric and dangerous monsters which she fights with her iconic pistols. Traditionally, the game centers around traveling through 3D levels, solving environmental puzzles, and looking for valuable items.

Shadowbane is an MMORPG developed by Wolfpack Studios. The game takes players to a fantastical realm engulfed in chaos resulting from a treacherous assassination of King Cambruin. The gameplay revolves around duels, during which players have to fight each other and complete numerous quests generated by the so-called ‘Game Masters’. Upon starting the game, one has to create a character for themselves by selecting one of ten diverse races and four unique classes. With time, the player’s character reaches new levels of experience and systematically unlocks not only new abilities but also additional 18 character classes. Moreover, heroes featured in Shadowbane can exercise 27 so-called disciplines, which gives them even more rare abilities. The guild system implemented in the game allows the players to form groups - after reaching certain reputation and fame levels, a player can obtain a piece of land, on which he can build defensive structures, and even entire cities. Another element worth noticing is the well-balanced experience loss system that kicks in whenever a player reaches his demise or is defeated by another player. Also, whenever a player wins a duel he is rewarded adequately to the level difference between the dueling opponents. Six years after its original release, Shadowbane servers were shut down, and Ubisoft announced the termination of their support for the game.
