Puzzle, Strategic Elements, Indie Games, Singleplayer, Turn-based.
An outstanding puzzle game (better known under the name of notSureAboutNameYet), created by independent developer Miro Straka. The title of Euclidean Lands refers to the mathematical term of Euclidean space, and we play as a wanderer traversing surrealistic lands made of cubic blocks. During his journey, the protagonist faces various puzzles, most of which come down to correct environment manipulation. We can freely rotate not only whole levels, but also single blocks – like in the Rubik's cube. This allows us to bypass traps, while learning the story, fragments of which have been written in seemingly invisible spots throughout the levels. Aside from that, the game also features turn-based fights with enemies, similar to what we have seen in Lara Croft GO.

The seventh full-fledged installment in a popular, though niche, series of jRPGs whose characters personify the famous Japanese consoles and development studios. The plot was divided into three, non-connected episodes set in the universe of the series. The game features both characters the players are familiar with, and completely new figures. Compared to the previous installments, the rules and mechanics have not changed, thus the game is a typical representative of the jRPG genre, featuring turn-based combat sequences taking place on separate arenas. Three characters at max take direct part in a fight, and they can undergo transformations during the encounter in order to benefit from their stronger, divine forms. What is completely new here, is the introduction of an additional, even more powerful form, which has brought an additional tactical element to the encounters with the most dangerous bosses.

The second large expansion for Cities: Skylines, an economic strategy game developed by Colossal Order. The Snowfall add-on introduces changing weather conditions and temperature fluctuation that can significantly influence the functioning of our city. As the temperature goes down, the citizens consume a lot more power, requiring us to meet the increased demand for electricity or build a municipal central heating system. Apart from rain and fog, which are both purely cosmetic events, a heavy snowfall can be a serious problem for the mayor as it paralyzes traffic and necessitates additional spending for snow clearing. Furthermore, the expansion offers a myriad of new buildings connected to the theme of winter, improved city transport management, and the long-awaited trams that complement the list of available means of public transportation.

A mobile card game created by Mathew Inman as an adaption of a popular board game of the same name. Exploding Kittens is unlike anything in its genre and has been developed purely with a group of players sitting at a single board in mind. Rules are incredibly simple: during each turn the players randomly select one card, and the one to draw the eponymous volatile furball is out of the game. All other cards are used to avoid the explosive animal or preventing others from achieving the same objective. We can find among them e.g. passing turn, looking at top threes cards of the deck or defusing the kitty and returning it into the deck in way that other players won’t know where it is.

A tactical science-fiction role-playing game developed by Quatro Delta in cooperation with the team at Re-Logic, the creators of Terraria. The game puts the player in control of a group of mercenaries who get trapped in a different galaxy while searching for new technologies, as ordered by their boss. The player's task is to ensure their survival and find a safe way for them to go back home. The game gives the player total freedom in terms of exploration - they can fly a spaceship and visit any planet encountered. The only limitation here is our team's level of development. The gameplay consists largely of real-time battles, where the player gives orders to the entire team or its individual members. The game features both single player and multiplayer modes. In the latter, a maximum of four players can take part simultaneously. The game features old-school visuals that deliberately expose pixels, as the very title of the game announces.

The action takes place in a virtual world located within a computer system. The protagonist, Kevin Flynn, is a programmer and the main character of the original 1982 movie. The gameplay mechanics were inspired by a popular genre existing on mobile devices - games known as endless runners. However, this game introduces a series of changes required for it to fit into the specifics of regular gaming systems. The individual routes in the game are not infinite or even randomly generated, each has its starting and ending points. The game offers two different types of routes that can be traveled sprinting on foot or sitting on a motorbike. Each of the routes available is filled with different traps and threats that have to be avoided by performing risky stunts. When running, the player also collects different bonuses and fights enemies in occasional combat sequences.

An improved edition of Hard Reset - a cyberpunk first-person shooter developed by Flying Wild Hog (the creators of the successful Shadow Warrior remake). Although the original game (2011) was released exclusively for PCs, Hard Reset: Redux received console versions for the eighth generation of hardware as well. The game offers a journey to a grim world of the future, when the Earth has been almost entirely dominated by merciless robots who have devastated the planet. The player takes on the role of Major Fletcher, a war veteran with a task of defending the last remaining human outpost. The game offers fast-paced action and brutal combat sequences involving both regular enemies and powerful bosses. The player makes use of various types of futuristic firearms and a completely new weapon known as cyber-katana. What is new as well, is the ability to perform a quick dodge, which is useful while confronting larger groups of enemies. In addition to the original contents, Hard Reset: Redux features the Exile DLC expansion. The game offers both a story-based campaign and a survival mode, but the latter lacks the multiplayer component. The game utilizes the newest version of the RoadHog engine. As a result, it offers both better lighting and special effects, as well as faster loading time.

A first person adventure game taking place in a science fiction reality. It was inspired by the biography of one of the most famous American sci-fi writers, Philip K. Dick. The story is set in 1967, and the player takes control of a penniless writer called Elvin Green who, discouraged by failures in both his personal and professional lives, seeks comfort in alcohol and drugs. With nothing to lose, the protagonist finds himself about to hit the rock bottom where, after having doped himself, he discovers a passage to an alternative reality called Theta. Exploring the subsequent locations of the mysterious world we ventured into, we search for different items that can solve the protagonist's real-world problems. At the same time, all story elements vividly refer to the life of Philip K. Dick himself, his obsessions, and phobias haunting him. The game stands out with its original and artistic visuals, aiming to recreate the atmosphere of a narcotic trip into the mind of the character.

The year is 1983 and the plot is set in the titular Antioch - a fictional town surrounded by sea and mountains. The game follows the adventures of two detectives working on an exceptionally complicated case. The entire action takes place in a small, open world, where a large number of side cases await for solving, apart from the main storyline the game presents the player with. When it comes to the mechanics, Antioch makes references to classic gamebooks - for the most part, the player is engaged in reading, which is accompanied by numerous graphics and animations displayed. However, the game stands out with its focus on cooperation between two players assuming the roles of the detectives mentioned above. Their mutual interactions, decisions made and teamwork during interrogations all shape the course of the story and affect the final results of the investigation.

A mobile action game which combines pinball and painting in an rather interesting way. This unorthodox idea was created in the London-based studio State of Play. Similarly as in case of a typical pinball, in Inks the player bounces a ball by using flippers placed at the bottom of the screen. However, instead of an impressive pinball table, in this game the screen shows only a simple background with lightly drawn contour. The screen, which at first is gray, quickly gains new colors as each hit at the specially marked edges of the table makes colorful paints spill. Interesting, unique effects that can be considered similar to modern art, are obtained thanks to the splashes and streaks painted by the physical engine and the rolling ball. In addition to nice aesthetics of one’s creations, the player also receives points as a reward – the more accurately he hits various tunnels, ramps etc, the more points he gains.

Additionally, Coast Guard introduces an ability to disembark the boat in order to search an island, or a room on an oil rig. A card game with turn-based strategy elements that uses free-to-play distribution model with microtransactions. Faeria invites the players into an old fantasy world, home to humans as well as other intelligent species. The game puts emphasis on the lore and contains much additional information about the fictional universe. As for the gameplay, Faeria represents an unorthodox approach to the card game genre. Duels between two players are the foundation of the game. The fights are waged by using cards drawn from users’ personal decks. The warriors must also gather resources and use them in the duels. The cards represent heroes, effects and spells, but they cannot be played freely. Instead they have to be used on special, hexagon fields. Empty at first, the map becomes filled with hexes due to the player’s actions, and various terrain types affect the behavior of units and spells. Another innovation in the game is the necessity for characters to find themselves on adjacent fields in order to start the battle. It is worth adding that Faeria also allows the owners of various gaming platforms to face each other.

An action adventure game developed by the Insomniac Games studio. The player sets out on an adventure in a fantasy world, and plays the role of the son of the chieftain of one of the most powerful local tribes. When the leader is assassinated, a different group takes care of the child, who then returns to his home years later to avenge his father’s death. The action begins with us choosing the sex of the main character - this decision has a lot of impact on the gameplay, as the male and female feature different, unique skills. The gameplay itself revolves around exploration of the mysterious land, completing both the main and optional quests and fighting hordes of enemies. The advanced combat system featured in Feral Rites allows for numerous punches, kicks, air attacks, special tricks and finishers. We can also transform into a beast, which significantly improves our combat abilities for a short amount of time. The production is distinguished by its high-quality visuals; when compared to other titles designed solely with the VR googles in mind, it sets itself apart even further by the perspective – as the camera is placed behind our hero’s back.

An online action game focused on PvP competition, developed with virtual reality in mind. The Unspoken was created by Insomniac Games, the creators of Sunset Overdrive, Fuse, and the Ratchet & Clank series, among other things. The Unspoken is set in a world that bears resemblance to the present with the only difference being that magic exists, and it's incredibly spectacular. The players assume the role of mages who fight each other in one on one fights organized by an ancient order. Combat takes place on special arenas and is conducted according to strict honor rules. The action is observed from the character’s eyes, while spells are cast by making gestures. In the game, we can make use of 25 spells. Among them, we can find classical fireballs, magic barriers, summoning monsters, and environment manipulation. The Unspoken was built from scratch with virtual reality in mind and therefore cannot be played on a regular screen.

Fighting, 2D, Side-scroll, Singleplayer, Zombie.
An oldschool side-scroll 2D beat 'em up game, created by Empty Clip as extra content for everyone, who purchased Dead Island Definitive Collection including the remastered editions of Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide by Techland. Dead Island Retro Revenge faithfully recreates the classic arcade beat 'em up spirit, popular from the early 90s. During the game, you keep going right, facing waves of enemies, consisting mostly of various kinds of bloodthirsty zombies, just like in the original production. Dead Island Retro Revenge features colorful, although very oldschool visuals, and the game's screen is stylized to resemble a pixelated arcade screen.

Apart from the standard gameplay variant in which levels are procedurally generated, the game features a system of daily challenges and a special Arena mode, based on fighting 1 vs 1 duels against bosses. An online survival game developed by Free Reign Entertainment, a studio established by the creator of Infestation: Survivor Stories and Romero's Aftermath. The action of Shattered Skies takes place on Earth, devastated by a space cataclysm — the Moon was smashed to pieces by a comet, while our planet was infested with an alien life form that degraded the environment and turned people into monsters. The players assume the role of one of the few survivors, whose only choice is to fight for their lives. The threats include not only the monsters but also other participants. On the other hand, the interactions between players do not boil down to competition — we might as well cooperate or trade items. In Shattered Skies, it is essential to traverse open locations in search of food, water, and anything useful. While resting, it is best to head to a survivors’ camp or, if that’s impossible, barricade ourselves in some building, barring the windows and setting up traps.

A space simulator which offers the players an opportunity to participate in huge battles involving hundreds of players and stretching across entire planetary system. Three powerful factions compete against one another in the war-ridden world of Infinity: Battlescape. Each of the factions has a network of space stations and defensive systems, as well as fleets comprised of combat ships. The ships come in various types, such as fighters, bombers, corvettes, huge cruisers or carriers - all of them can be controlled by the players. The goal of each party involved in the conflict is to destroy enemy forces and infrastructure. However, because the fighting takes place both in outer space and within atmospheres of different planets, achieving the ultimate victory is quite time-consuming. The game offers realistic flight physics, as the game takes such factors into account as density of atmosphere or gravitational phenomena. As an addition to the multiplayer experience, the creators included a single player sandbox mode. Infinity: Battlescape utilizes the in-house I-Novae Engine, which made it possible to create an enormous, open and procedurally-generated universe.

An action-puzzle game inspired by the annual “Earth Hour” event organized by WWF foundation. The game was developed by the Russian studio Brainy. It shows how much the modern world depends on electricity. When an accident in the power plant causes the whole city to run out of electricity, the player assumes the role of the last “living” spark and is tasked with restoring the power and allowing the inhabitants of the city to function normally. The gameplay mechanics in TurnOn are similar as in typical platformer games. The difference lies in the fact that instead between the platforms, the player must jump between electric wires. By jumping from one wire to another, the player tries to restore the power to houses, shops, and various electric devices. The devices are connected to each other with a tightly tangled network of connections. Because of that, in addition to having high agility, the game also forces the player to think. The game contains bonus levels as well. During them the player must move through the electric wires according to the tune of the background music.

The seventh installment in the arcade music game series by SEGA. To play the game you need a good sense of rhythm and quick fingers to push the buttons appearing on screen. As usual, the main characters are the virtual vocalists, Miku Hatsune being the most prominent. Their digital voices are generated by professional music software, which has been used by fans to create thousands of songs from many genres; several dozens of them make an appearance in the game. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X is the first title in the series featuring a story campaign, in which you help Miku and other characters discover the digital idol world. As the game progresses, you unlock new cutscenes and events, similar to the previous installments. The production features several hundreds of outfits and accessories for the characters, and completing an outfit matching a song gets you a bonus. Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X utilizes the same graphic engine as the other games in the franchise, although its visuals are better.

An action shooter/battle game set in the universe of the popular Japanese Touhou series. Touhou Genso Rondo: Bullet Ballet is set in a magical land of Gensokyo. You play as a group of warriors, who are known from the other installments in the series — including such characters as Reimu Hakurei or Remilia Scarlet. The gameplay consists of one-on-one battles, which take place on 2D arenas seen from the bird's eye view. The characters use various magical attacks and spells that form complicated patterns on the screen. The game features short cutscenes between battles, showing each character's story. Apart from the story campaign and the arcade mode (in which you battle AI-controlled enemies and the difficulty level steadily increases), Touhou Genso Rondo: Bullet Ballet features local and online multiplayer modes. The visuals of the game are simple but full of spectacular lighting effects and vivid colors, and they're complemented by a dynamic soundtrack.
