Wuchang Fallen Feathers: How to defeat Fierce Tiger, Sovereign Zhang Xianzhong?
Fierce Tiger is a boss that you will fight in the Mt. Zhenwu region, more precisely in Altar Gate. The next main boss is very similarly to Perfect Bride and Chimera. After defeating the first boss, you'll immediately face the next one. The fight begins with Fierce Tiger. Sovereign - Zhang Xianzhong appears in the second phase. You can find them both at the Altar Gate, in the Mt. Zhenwu region. Fierce Tiger in a nutshell
- Fierce Tiger can deal lightning damage. It can also easily inflict Paralysis, significantly lowering your damage output. Wearing armor with high resistance to physical damage, mainly Blunt, and to Paralysis is highly recommended.
- Before the fight, equip the Dracolich Pendant amulet - it not only boosts your defense but also prevents the boss from stunning you with its roar.
- During the fight, prioritize spells that enhance your survivability. Divine Ward, Divine Blessing, and Ethereal Form will be very useful. Divine Ward boosts your defense, Divine Blessing heals you in a designated area, and Ethereal Form enhances your evasion.
- The projectiles it shoots from its mouth don’t explode immediately - they detonate after a few seconds. When the projectiles get bigger, dodge them - before they explode you can safely stand next to them.
- The boss cannot be stunned, so it's better to use quick attacks rather than charged attacks.
Fierce Tiger's attacks
- Charge - the boss will start running on all fours paws, then leap toward you, covering a large distance. When it hits you, it will also ram you.
- Triple paw strike - Fierce Tiger will stand on two legs, then strike its front paw three times with longer pauses between each hit.
- Spin and tail lightning orbs - the boss starts spinning before leaping backward, tail whipping through the air. Then it fires several lightning orbs, the AoE of which slowly expands.
- Electric field - Fierce Tiger raises its front paw, then prepares to deliver an electric strike. Upon hitting the ground, it creates an electric field that deals low damage and inflicts Paralysis.
- Fury - Fierce Tiger will roar (which can stun you if you don’t have the Dracolich Pendant equipped), then jumps, slams the ground twice, and finally tries to bite you. After this attack, it may follow up with an additional tail strike that summons lightning orbs.
- Laser - when you're far away, the boss can shoot a laser at you. If you get hit, you'll also get knocked down.
- Mouth sphere - the boss shoves its paw down its throat, then pulls out an electric orb that follows you. A few seconds later, it explodes, inflicting Paralysis.
- Roar and lightning - While standing on two legs, Fierce Tiger lets out a roar that can stun you unless you’re wearing the Dracolich Pendant. After a while, lightning bolts appear all around you.
How to fight Fierce Tiger?
The best strategy for the fight is to keep your distance and bait the boss into charging. A well-timed side dodge lets you easily land a charged attack and get to the boss' side. That said, you shouldn't use charged attacks too often. The boss can't be stunned and moves quickly, so you'll be missing quite often. It’s usually best to rely on quick attacks.
With the Dracolich Pendant equipped, you can ignore his roars, which would normally stun you. Roars then become large openings to attack him. Just remember not to overdo it.
As soon as you see Fierce Tiger preparing a tail attack that creates lightningorbs, quickly move away or get ready for a perfect dodge. This attack can instantly kill you if you’re too close and get hit by all the orbs.
It’s worth using fire spells from time to time, as inflicting Burn is relatively easy and causes the enemy to take increased damage.
Sovereign - Zhang Xianzhong in a nutshell
- Many of Sovereign’s attacks are very simmilar of Fierce Tiger's. While similar, they vary in effects and power. For example, in the second phase, the boss releases more electric orbs and leaves a larger electric field on the ground.
- Physical defense against Stab damage is particularly helpful when Sovereign attacks with its glaive.
- The boss can leap into the air, making him harder to hit for a while. Afterwards, he can summon many electric orbs that will cause Paralysis unless your resistance is very high.
- Although this is a new boss, most of your damage will actually be dealt to the tiger. Therefore, an amulet that increases damage against larger creatures will work perfectly here.
Sovereign - Zhang Xianzhong's attacks
Most attacks in this phase are quite similar to those in the first phase. They mainly differ in the number of orbs created and the size of their AoE. Therefore, we've only listed completely new attacks:
- Glaive strike - the glaive's blade will glow blue. After a moment, the boss will slam the ground, creating an explosion. The explosion will also create more electric orbs that move around the arena and inflict Paralysis.
- Dipped glaive charge - the boss’s charge now leaves a trail of electricity behind. Staying in this area will deal continuous damage and apply Paralysis.
- Jumping in the air - when you notice the boss is electrified, as shown in the picture above, it will jump twice, bouncing in the air after a short delay. Each bounce creates a large orb of electricity that will soon fall on you and explode. After the second jump, the boss will land on the ground, creating lightning bolts where it lands.
How to fight Sovereign - Zhang Xianzhong?
Even though the boss has some new attacks and its old ones are upgraded, your strategy shouldn't change much from the first phase. Bait a charge, dodge it, and counter with a quick attack. When the boss is near, stay close to his side and attack. Be ready for his glaive strikes.
When Sovereign uses a laser, it’s a good idea to use an ability that lets you close the distance quickly. Since this attack lasts a long time, do try to deal damage during it. The Empyrean Crash on the Empyrean Greataxe will be very useful here.
