Gluttonous Monstrosity - Lu Hongliu in a nutshell
- The boss inflicts the Corruption status, so medium resistance to this status is recommended. It doesn't need to be too high, as this status is applied when the boss spits blood, which doesn't happen too often. And this attack is relatively easy to avoid. Moreover, good physical resistance will also be important, especially against slash attacks.
- Gluttonous Monstrosity can be dodged sideways quite efficiently; this way, you can quickly find yourself behind her back. She doesn't have any back attacks, so she'll have to turn around to face you, which will take some time.
- This opponent is very aggressive, often shortening the distance by jumping and attacking in several series. It might happen that you'll be continuously dodging her, again and again, and attacking only when her attack animation ends (unless you have the Clash ability).
- The fight is divided into two phases. In the second phase, make sure you're not too close to the boss when she starts screaming - this may stun your character. You will then need to mash the key displayed on the screen to interrupt your dazed state.
- The boss is vulnerable to fire damage, so any throwable barrels, spells that inflict Burn or fire Temperance status will come in handy. However, it is important to use these mechanics (especially Temperance) only once the second phase starts. This is mostly because then the boss is vulnerable to your attacks for a longer period of time.
Gluttonous Monstrosity - Lu Hongliu's attacks
- Jump and double swing - this attack is performed at the very beginning of the fight, and when you are very far from the boss. The opponent closes the distance quickly, jumping at you and then swinging her arms twice.
- A series of three blows - the boss will stand on her feet, make two quick swings in front of her, and a third one that will be at a slightly slower pace.
- Spitting blood - Gluttonous Monstrosity can spit in two ways - in a straight line or horizontally. Either way, if the attack reaches you, your Corruption status will start to fill up.
- Pecking - this attack usually consists of two quick beak attacks and a third, slightly delayed one.
- Paw attack - the boss will take a position as if standing on all fours. Then, she will attack you with her hands interchangeably, one hand at a time. After that, she will jump back and do it again, only much faster, and at the very end, she will stand up and strike forward with her whole body.
- Grabbing - if you notice that Lu Hongliu starts scratching the ground with her hands, this means she's about to attack you. If she catches you, you will inevitably take damage.
- Crossed hands - if you see the boss crossing her hands in an X sign, this means that she's about to simultaneously jump and charge towards you.
- A mighty roar (start of the second phase) - after reducing the boss's HP to 50%, the second phase will begin, in which the Gluttonous Monstrosity will start choking on blood. After a while, she will stand on two legs, attack three times in a small area, and then stand still. A few seconds later, she will start roaring. If the sound wave hits you, you will be stunned and forced to mash the button that appears on the screen. After finishing this attack, the boss will start spitting blood, and when she falls to her knees, she will remove her beak from the ground and cause a small explosion.
- High jump - in the second phase, the boss can also jump high into the air, even higher than before, and after a while, land on you with huge force.
How to fight Gluttonous Monstrosity - Lu Hongliu?
Lu Hongliu is an aggressive opponent who doesn't really give you time to rest. However, her size is her weakness. Due to her larger size, she can be easily approached from behind. We strongly recommend attacking the boss only when you are behind her. Fighting her face to face is not a great strategy here. Therefore, stay close to her and dodge to the side, preferably to the right.
Lu Hongliu is vulnerable to fire. You can apply this effect very quickly and increase the damage dealt. However, keep in mind that it's better to do it in the second phase, when the boss stops screaming and falls to her knees after a few attacks. It is recommended to use fire Temperance when she is stunned. Otherwise, applying the Burn effect will be more difficult, mainly due to the boss's high agility and aggression.
It is also worth taking advantage of the moment when the boss spits blood at you. It takes quite a while to perform for this attack, but it can be avoided pretty easily. This gives you a few moments to unleash a series of light attacks and gain some Skyborn Might, which, combined with weapon techniques, should throw the boss off balance.
Although this might seem like strange advice, it is worth getting hit by the boss's scream (provided that you can get through the mashing/QTEs sequences). This is mostly because you'll need much less time to remove the stun effect than to get away from the boss and then approach her again. This attack deals microscopic damage and will allow you to be at the boss right away and use that moment to attack.
